After going through a gallery of leading ladies in speculative and totally unfounded news reports, it is Asin who has been finalized to play the lead opposite Abhishek Bachchan in Bhushan Kumar's tentatively titled film Mere Apne. The film is being directed by Umesh Shukla, whose debut work Omg Oh My God, on ritualistic religiosity created quite a stir across the country. This time again Umesh tackles a thorny issue. Rishi Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan were signed to play father and son some months ago. The leading lady's slot remained vacant with names as far-ranging as Kareena Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor being thrown around. The director firmly denied approaching these ladies. Asin has finally been roped in to play what is being seen as an "important dramatic role". Asin and Abhishek have an interesting history. They were supposed to star together in Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se.

On Saturday morning, Pran's family friends and fans bid him a final farewell. Sadly enough the turn-out at the cremation was very poor. Shatrughan Sinha who cancelled his trip to Patna to attend the funeral said, "There is no doubt Pranji was an institution. He has inspired generations of actors, including me. When I heard of his passing away I immediately cancelled my trip to Patna to attend." At the funeral, Shatrughan Sinha was dismayed to see the poor turn-out. "I saw very few people from the film industry. A man who gave 70 years of his life to the film industry deserved a much more hefty send-off." Recalling Satyajit Ray's condolence meeting at Mehboob Studios on the doyen's death, Shatrughan Sinha says, "This was Satyajit Ray who brought renown to Indian cinema and to the nation, the only Indian to win both the Oscar and the Bharat Ratna.

On one of our flights I had the pleasure of flying the great comedian Asrani. We hit it off well right from the outset, one of the reasons being our common surname. So naturally we started digging into our respective family trees, and to my astonishment we turned out to be ?distantly- related cousins?. I said ?Govardhan (his first name) you are a star comedian! I am really proud to be your cousin ?to which he replied ?Arre don?t call me Govardhan, everyone calls me Asrani, you also call me that only.?

He broke all the rules of stardom and yet was a star, a romantic hero and an all-rounder par excellence. 47 was no age for one of Hindi cinema's brightest talents to go, but on November 6, 1985, Sanjeev Kumar passed away, leaving fans, friends and the Hindi film shell-shocked. Gulzar remembers Sanjeev Kumar "For me, he was the complete actor. I have always said that I had two anchors - one was Sanjeev Kumar, and the other was R.D.Burman. What most people do not know is that I knew Haribhai (as I called him) from the late 1950s. We were both with the Indian National Theatre where I would write for the plays and he was a stage actor. Sanjeev was a student of P.D.Shenoy, who was also teaching at the Filmalaya School of Acting and later turned film director. Sanjeev was just over 20 years old, and he was playing a father!
