Sex & Nudity

  • An adulterous affair takes place between Antony and Cleopatra throughout the film. Not condoned.
  • Many characters wear outfits that barely cover the body at all. Some partial views of buttocks and breasts (including nipples) are exposed through the clothing. This, however, is not overly graphic.
  • A woman is briefly seen lifting up her skirt and exposing her buttocks

Violence & Gore

  • Mild violence throughout, consistent with the play
  • Two battle scenes, one by sea, and a later one on land. Mild scenes of stabbing and bloodshed, but not very realistic or gruesome.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Great deal of alcohol consumption, oftentimes to excess at wild parties. This behavior, however, is not condoned, and it is consistent with the play

Frightening & Intense Scenes

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • Part of Cleopatra's breast is seen at the end. She uncovers one of her breasts and provokes a snake to bite her nipple. This is the way that Cleopatra historically committed suicide, and it is also consistent with the play. None of the nudity, however, is in any way sexual.

Violence & Gore

  • Antony commits suicide by falling on his own sword, but he fails to kill himself swiftly, so he dies very slowly and painfully
  • Cleopatra kills herself by obtaining a poisonous snake and provoking it to bite her breast.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This is an intense tragedy ending in the death of nearly every major character, but this film version is not very realistic and none of the violence is gruesome.
