CAGLIOSTRO is an obscure 1975 Italian account of the famous count and magician once claimed to have been in league with the devil. His legend has survived in cinema over the years - proving surprisingly popular in Japanese anime, for example - but this version doesn't really add much. Our anti-hero performs a few miracles and dabbles a little in the dark arts, but for the most part he only succeeds in antagonising the Catholic church which leads to his downfall. The production is underwhelming to sit through, the cast enlivened only by Curd Jurgens in support, and with only a few atmospheric touches.
