Low budget international action film
FrankiePaddo8 February 2000
Another film from the low budget internationally funded exotic action school of the seventies. However it is a pleasant time filler, largely due to the stars and to Henry Levin's direction which keep things bouncing along. Rod Taylor and Stuart Whitman, two reliable stars who saw better times in the sixties, search for treasure in the Carribean and do he man things in a dependable and professional way. The ever beautiful Elke Sommer is background scenery as she was in many a continental film whilst Keenan Wynn plays the grizzled and gruff old veteran and Jeremy Kemp the bad guy asthey did in countless films. There is a lot of experience here, a director who had been directing since the 40s, actors who had been acting since the 50s or even longer. So what we have is a film that makes the most of it's opportunities, no classic, but fun on a cheesy level. The type of film waiting to be reinvented by Tarantino.

Saw this one late night in New York many years ago..on WCBS...it was faded on TV then but the film was enjoyable. I agree that Whitman and Taylor had better times in the 60's and 70's but they were up to snuff here. Elke Sommers...as sexy as ever and better here than she was in "Baron Blood", maybe that was dubbing but it was not good for her...and Keenan Wynn was his grizzled old self along with Jeremy Kemp...too bad it's not on DVD.This film never resurfaced on TV since and that's too bad. With the dumping of films on late night TV, I guess it went into some sort of graveyard for films that made the rounds on late night. It was better than the film Whitman did about the Jim Jones cult

Elke Sommer's movies are always ones to seek out

"The Treasure Seekers" is one of the many '70s action movies with giant casts. In this case, old friends Rod Taylor and Stuart Whitman accidentally meet in Jamaica and learn of pirate Capt. Morgan's sunken treasure of the coast. Sure enough, others are keen to find it, and will probably stop at nothing to keep the two men from succeeding.

Admittedly, this movie pure, corny escapism. But believe you me, it's the good kind! I mean, any movie starring Elke Sommer is something to admire. I wish that they'd shown more of her here (by that, I don't necessarily mean give her more screen time; I mean show her wearing less). If I lean too much in her favor, it's just that I've had a crush on her for years. I kept wondering what she looked like under those clothes (if that makes me a pervert, so be it).

So, it's a nice, fun, silly time. Also starring is Keenan Wynn in a role mildly reminiscent of Gen. Bat Guano in "Dr. Strangelove". Worth seeing. Available in Portland's video/DVD store Movie Madness.

entertaining action

This film has a long build up, but the ending action is quite entertaining. The plot revolves around two old friends meeting again after a number of years. They both make a daring and dangerous attempt to find some long lost treasure. This film contains an all star cast. It is a small film, but well worth the time.

future cult status

This is worth renting just for the theme song, which is awesome. Truly a rare film, very strong fake accents, heavy threats, and strange names abound. If you are a fan of movies that are amazingly weird, you hit pay-dirt, If you can find a copy that is, they had this on a faded VHS in a chain store, but I doubt it's still there. There are some amusing scenes at a local tavern. The real action happens at the boat however, and meat cleavers house. Don't want to spoil the action, but you will be glued to your set. Treasure seekers is a film that will really separate you from a casual viewer, to full bad movie lover, but it really doesn't hang, like other b movies, it's actually a clever plot, with hammy acting and sea clichés thrown in.
