The debut of Amazon’s Fallout series is a major moment for fans of the gaming franchise who have long dreamed of an adaptation of the legendary RPG franchise. Of course, since every episode of that series is being released at once, there’s a good chance you’ll finish the post-apocalyptic series pretty quickly and be left feeling as empty as an apocalyptic wasteland.
Thankfully, there is no shortage of tremendous post-apocalyptic movies out there to help you fill that void. From some of the most shocking films ever made to bonafide action classics, the post-apocalyptic genre is a surprisingly robust slice of sci-fi that has gifted us with numerous masterpieces.
In fact, it was so tough to choose between the best of those movies that I ultimately focused more on the best post-apocalyptic movies that share some notable traits with the Fallout franchise. That said, anyone who really...

As far as sci-fi films go, there is before Star Wars and after; the film forever altered the landscape and the box office with an old fashioned sense of adventure long relegated to Hollywood’s past. But what about during Star Wars? After all, Twentieth Century Fox was pushing their bet towards another property for prosperity: the post-apocalyptic Damnation Alley, an adaptation of the hit 1969 novel by Roger Zelazny. We all know which brought in the Fox funds, and it certainly wasn’t this goofy Stagecoach tribute (as opposed to Sw’s The Hidden Fortress one). But as The Little Fox That Didn’t, Damnation Alley was this kid’s sci-fi horror boogie; seven and alone, just me and The Landmaster military Rv that costars.
There’s no need to call child services; growing up in a small town, I saw many a film solo - that darkened screen was my closest friend.

Kip Niven, a veteran character actor whose career ranged from early-’70s TV and the first two Sensurround films to regional theater and starring in 2014’s Jayhawkers, has died. He was 73. Local media outlets in his native Kansas City, Mo, said Niven died Monday of a heart attack.
Born on May 27, 1945, he got his start with guest roles in such 1970s TV dramas as Night Gallery, Escape and Emergency! before landing a key role in the first Dirty Harry sequel. In 1973’s Magnum Force, Niven played “Red” Astrachan, one of the vigilante rookie cops who terrorize San Francisco’s underworld — and eventually Clint Eastwood, who eventually gets his revenge. Astrachan’s comrades were played by future stars Robert Urich, Tim Matheson and David Soul.
After that, Niven would appear in dozens of TV shows and more than a dozen features including Earthquake (1974) and Midway (1976), the first two movies released in...

Former Hollywood heartthrob Jan-Michael Vincent, star the hit TV series, Airwolf, is revealed to have died last month.
Jan-Michael Vincent, former star of the smash 1980s TV series, Airwolf, has died, reportedly at the age of 73. It’s an occurrence that, in actuality, took place nearly a month ago – on February 10 – and we only just now learned.
According to Vincent’s death certificate, as obtained by THR, the actor passed away as a result of cardiac arrest at Mission Hospital's Memorial Campus in Asheville, North Carolina. His death caps off widely-reported struggles with drugs and alcohol, which led to a tumultuous personal life rife with permanent-injury-inducing accidents and shameful legal issues, notably connected to domestic violence. However, his downfall contrasts sharply with an auspicious early career.
Indeed, Vincent was essentially the Brad Pitt of the 1970s, bearing a name and chiseled-jawed countenance that was synonymous with the...

Jan-Michael Vincent, best known for playing the lead role in the 1980s CBS series “Airwolf,” died on Feb. 10 after suffering cardiac arrest, according to a death certificate obtained by several outlets. His death, first reported by TMZ, has only now come to light. He was 73.
His image as a baby-faced blonde heartthrob was at odds with his history of violence and substance abuse. The troubled 1970s TV star had a long string of arrests and charges relating to domestic violence, drug possession, and alcohol abuse.
Vincent’s acting career began in 1967, when he was spotted by a talent scout just after finishing a stint in the California Army National Guard. His first film was the Robert Conrad movie “The Bandits.”
Born in Denver, he was signed to Universal Studios in the late ’60s by casting agent Dick Clayton, and in 1969, he appeared in the John Wayne and Rock Hudson Civil War pic “The Undefeated.

Damned Nation is the latest action-packed film from Cute Little Buggers (2017) director Tony Jopia. I got a chance to ask Tony a few questions about how he plans continue the story, what we can expect in the future and how fans can keep updated regarding the future of Damned Nation.
Damned Nation is an action packed short which gives us an introduction to an apocalyptic future. Why did you decide to complete a short film, and will you be looking to continuing the story as a feature film or a series?
We wanted to make it as enjoyable as we could. Just because it’s a short it doesn’t mean we can’t fill it with all the ingredients that make a fab action movie, in this case it’s all contained within a shorter amount of time. The overall idea is much bigger but unfortunately, we only had...

Our latest round-up of genre DVDs and Blu-rays covers George A Romero, Damnation Alley and more...
With real life’s ridiculous news stories almost beyond parody, it seems fitting that 2017 was the year we saw George A. Romero, the master of satirical zombie tomfoolery, responsible for horror classics from Dawn Of The Dead through to Tales From The Dark Side, shuffle off this mortal coil. To commemorate three of Romero’s less celebrated early movies, Arrow Video has released the intriguing Between Night And Dawn set on Bluray, with ample extras to sate the most eager fanboy/girl.
First up, and by far the movie most will know (perhaps due to its 2010 remake), 1973's The Crazies plays out almost like a retread of Romero's 1968 debut Night Of The Living Dead, with a group of townsfolk again subject to a dodgy violence-inducing substance whilst military jackanapes try and control the epidemic.

This early gore-horror picture has a remarkable emphasis on human values, believe it or not, with a ‘monster’ that nevertheless is a paragon of loving gentleness. Add Donald Pleasance as a surly, posh-hating police inspector, and the shock value makes the Hammer films of the early ’70s taste like weak tea.

I didn’t even know he was ill. When Wes Craven’s passing was announced I was numb. The gravity of the loss felt in the film world was palpable, especially in horror. Mr. Craven was one of us, a great champion of the genre. And for those that called him a hack – and there were a few – if they didn’t know it then, know it now, and remember it forever - he revived the genre not once but twice.
Slashers had choked like weeds all the freshness from horror until Mr. Craven came along with the startlingly original A Nightmare on Elm Street. And then, in the 90’s as we wept for anything fun in the genre, he came roaring back with the astounding Scream and revitalized the genre, again.

Other people. What’s the point of them? They’re noisy and everywhere.
There is one thing they’re especially good at, however, and that’s recommending new stuff. In the spirit of that, we asked our writers to recommend great books that, for whatever reason, haven’t been surrounded by as much fuss and recognition as they deserve.
Nominations came in for personal favourites in fiction, non-fiction, children’s books and graphic novels, so we’ve divided them up into a series of features, the first of which is below, on great unsung sci-fi, fantasy, horror and thriller adult fiction.
Our hope is that you’ll demonstrate your worth as other people by carrying on the recommendations in the comments section below. Thanks in advance.

Charles Bronson is The Mechanic.
The 1972 thriller The Mechanic starring Charles Bronson—which was remade (unremarkably) by Simon West in 2011 as a star vehicle for Jason Statham (Killer Elite)—makes its Blu-ray debut from Twilight Time.
Directed by Michael Winner, The Mechanic stars Charles Bronson (Hard Times, The Great Escape) as a hardened professional hitman who’s feeling the strains of his profession. He joins forces with a ruthless up-and-comer (Jan-Michael Vincent, Damnation Alley) in a partnership that wavers between sustaining and profoundly dangerous…particularly when they get involved in a couple of tricky contracts.

Díaz's prize-winning novel follows the life of Oscar de León, a boy growing up as a Dominican immigrant in New Jersey who is obsessed with science fiction and fantasy novels, and is also falling in love. Diaz took to Rapgenius.com to share the backstory to one of the book's footnotes,...

Swashbuckling screenwriter behind Rob Roy, Ulzana's Raid and Night Moves
Alan Sharp, who has died of brain cancer aged 79, once claimed that as a screenwriter he was most interested in "moral ambiguity, mixed motives and irony", all of which are applicable to two of his best movies, the western Ulzana's Raid (1972), directed by Robert Aldrich, and the thriller Night Moves (1975), directed by Arthur Penn. Most of his screenplays were written in the 1970s and reflect the era in which America was suffering the effects of the Vietnam war and post-Watergate paranoia. This goes some way to explaining the bleakness and cynical sense of destiny in Sharp's films, which he called "existential melodramas".
He was born in Alyth, near Dundee. Although the majority of his scripts were set in the Us, where he lived for many years, Scotland remained pre-eminent in his character and culture. His script for Rob Roy (1995), a...

Bernardo Bertolucci’s (The Last Emperor) monumental 1977 film 1900 is both an epic history of 20th century Italy and an intimate portrait of two friends, both born on Jan. 1, 1900.
Set in Bertolucci’s ancestral region of Emilia in Northern Italy, 1900 zeroes in on same-day birthday boys Olmo Dalcò (Gerard Depardieu, Potiche), the son a socialist peasant farmer and Alfredo Berlinghieri (Robert De Niro, Stone), the son of the fascist landowner. The two youths grow into men (and ultimately old men!) and pass through the upheavals of the modern world, their personal conflicts becoming an allegory of the political turmoil of their ever-changing country.
1900‘s international cast includes Burt Lancaster (Sweet Smell of Success), Donald Sutherland (The Eagle), Sterling Hayden (The Killing), Dominique Sanda (Damnation Alley), Alida Valli (Senso) and Stefania Sandrelli (The Conformist). It’s superlative production credits include cinematography...

"Dream death-match to be sure, but I just noticed Koji Wakamatsu is actually making a new film based on Mishima's life," wrote Sanjuro six months ago, sparking a discussion in the Forum. 11.25 Jiketsu no Hi: Mishima Yukio to Wakamonotachi, with Arata taking the lead and Terajima Shinobu (Caterpillar) playing Mishima's wife, "focuses on the events of November 25, 1970, when Mishima entered the Tokyo headquarters of the Japan Self-Defense Forces along with four members of his private militia, the Tatenokai," wrote Nicholas Vroman in May at Toronto J-Film Pow-Wow. "Seizing control of the commandant's office, Mishima delivered a rambling speech from the balcony hoping to inspire a coup d'etat. He then returned to the office and committed suicide." He also notes that Wakamatsu's been blogging throughout the production. And today, Wildgrounds has posted the first trailer (above).

Fringe: Seasons 1-3
There's a good side to science fiction programmes living under constant threat of cancellation, in that it presents the makers with a choice: to make it all safer and more popular or to stick to their guns and take it to some unusual and more imaginative places.
You can almost hear the producers shout, "Sod it, let's just do what we want" near the end of season one as it went from pleasantly watchable to completely unmissable. Fringe started out like other paranormal investigation shows that came in the wake of The X-Files, but a few interesting characters and situations made it stand out. Lead scientist Walter (John Noble from Lord Of The Rings and, ahem, TV's Home And Away) was presented as a burnt-out acid casualty of the progressive hippy science of 1960s Berkeley college, more a Timothy Leary than an Agent Mulder – an important...

Damnation Alley is a post-apocalyptic film that takes place in a universe where the Cold War never had a chance to fizzle out, but in it's past-tense future, ends with a bang as they say, and the launching of those dreaded Icbm's. The end of civilization however, is only the beginning! Now with 9/10ths of the population wiped out in one fell swoop, military officers George Peppard, Jan Michael-Vincent, and Paul Winfield can pull the multi-wheeled, weapon enhanced, amphibious all terrain bad ass vehicle, the LandMaster, out of mothballs, and take it for a real test spin. Underneath radiated psychedelic colored skies, our intrepid survivors set out to traverse the newly-wasted lands (that's the fastest fallout ever!) and make their way across the country...

Westwood - The master of sensual European cinema golden years have a tint of blue. UCLA just hosted retrospective of Radley Metzger’s films. His most important films are being released on Blu-ray. He’s about to take the director’s chair as he approaches 83.
His masterwork Camille 2000 was just released Blu-ray with an extended version from Cult Epics. The 1969 update of Dumas’ The Lady of the Camellias takes place in an esoteric Italy. The restored high definition transfer gives a detailed look at that magical time. The Party Favors had a chance to chat with Radley Metzger about the release.

Radley is a true independent filmmaker. He owns the rights to his films instead of selling them off to distributor. He’s not at the mercy of an indifferent studio executive to keep his cinematic legacy available. The first question had to be...

In 1977, 20th Century Fox had two science-fiction adventure movies in the pipeline for release. The first was Star Wars, which came out in May with relatively low expectations and became an immediate, industry-changing sensation. The second was Damnation Alley, which Fox had originally thought would be its big year-end holiday blockbuster. Based on a well-regarded Roger Zelazny novel and directed by Airport 1975 and Midway helmer Jack Smight, Damnation Alley was intended to be a rousing post-apocalyptic actioner featuring mutated bugs, freaky marauders, and a badass armored vehicle—part Planet Of The Apes, part Them!, part On The Beach ...

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t the least bit worried that George Rr. Martin might be unable to keep all of the plates of his sprawling Song Of Ice & Fire series spinning with the arrival of the long-awaited 5th installment, A Dance With Dragons (Bantam, $35.00 Srp). The series has only grown larger and more complicated with each outing, with hundreds of characters in a delicate web.

Stay off the streets and stay in with a movie…that takes to the streets.
Los Angelenos are aflutter with impending chaos. And, if you don’t live in Los Angeles, you probably don’t understand. (I live here and I’m not sure I fully understand.) But this weekend (July 15-17), the City of Los Angeles has gotten it in its mind to shut down the 405 Freeway, one of the central lifelines for the (frankly absurd) amount of traffic that hits Los Angeles on a daily basis. This means that, functionally, no one’s going anywhere this weekend and the entire West side of Los Angeles is going to be choked off by the cold, unrelenting hands of the Los Angeles Dot.
Naturally, this has become a bit of a cultural meme (surely confusing anyone who doesn’t live in Los Angeles) dubbed by internet pun genii as “Carmageddon.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
The Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint
The Plot: The final chapter of the Harry Potter franchise. Harry, Ron, and Hermione continue in their quest to find and destroy the Dark Lord’s three remaining Horcruxes
The Buzz: We’ve been following these spell-casters around now for just over a decade, and it’s hard to believe that their journey is coming to a close. It’s been interesting to see Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint grow up on screen. Damnation Alley - is one of the most sought after post-apocalyptic cult relics of the 70's that, believe it or not, is only now making it's way onto DVD and Blu-ray in an official release. So basically, it's a red letter day for Pa junkies and I'm off to pick this bad boy up as soon as I post this. It's also based on a book from 1967 by Roger Zelazny (who hated this film).
Insidious - is the best film from James Wan since the original Saw and one hell of a haunting flick. I loved this film far more than the glut haunted house films we've been getting recently like Haunting in Connecticut. Perhaps it had something to do with Rose Byrne being in the film? Whatever it was, this was a great flick that's made better by the subtleties and unanswered oddities in it - like what relevance...

Shout! Factory will release the 1977 futuristic science fiction adventure movie Damnation Alley on DVD and Blu-Ray for the first time ever on July 12.
Hop onto the Landmaster for post-apocalyptic adventure in Damnation Alley.
A guilty pleasure in its day that has since become a cult favorite, the film is set in the future two years after the Earth has been titled off its axis by the devastation caused by World War III. On a post-apocalyptic landscape saturated by radiation, two Air Force officers (Seventies mainstay Jan-Michael Vincent and George Peppard of TV’s The A-Team) and a pair of other survivors (Watchmen’s Jackie Earle Haley and Euro-starlet Dominique Sanda) set out across the barren, post-apocalyptic planet in a really cool “Landmaster” vehicle, which functions as a tank, a bus and a mobile home.

Two years later the Earth, tilted off its axis by World War III, radiation has mutated insect life and is constantly wracked by massive storms that cover the entire hemisphere. Military order at the base has broken down. Tanner resigned his commission and Denton is considering going to Albany,...

An official release of Damnation Alley has been a long time coming for fans of the post apocalyptic genre. Sure there's been crumby bootlegs out there over the years, some widescreen, most not, but real fans have been waiting for more than just the ability to see the giant scorpions. We want to see them remastered and in Dolby sound, baby.
A couple years ago Anchor Bay promised a release, but it fell through. I was sad. But now, as of July 12, the wait is finally over as the good people at Shout! Factory are finally picking up the gauntlet and releasing
Damnation Alley on DVD. This is particularly exciting for me after seeing what Shout! have been doing with all their amazing Roger Corman Blu-rays of late. They look stunning and absolutely stuffed with extras. They do us retro slaves proud.
So anyway, it's still a bit of a wait,...

Rochester, NY - Ever wonder why schools today stink compared to decades ago? Every think tank moron has their dubious reasonings that appeases their corporate masters. But the truth is extraordinarily simple: Schools dumped their education films.
Do you remember those days when the gym teacher had to pad out health class by wheeling in the 16mm projector from the Av department? They’d thread up classic tales about your body, narcotics, driving safety and manners. Things which kids nowadays can’t seem to handle.
When the Vcr arrived in schools, the 16mm projector was quickly dumped as teaching tool.
Where did these classic films go? Many arrived at the city dump. However a few lucky tens of thousands found themselves on the racks of the Av Geeks Archive. This repository of cinematic education is overseen by Skip Elsheimer. He started collecting the films after I moved out of the infamous PineHaus.

As sure as night follows day, you can be sure that whenever there’s One black guy in an action/ adventure or sc-fi movie, he’s gonna bite it. (Will Smith in I Am Legend, anyone? And 1000 more examples at least) We all know we can’t have a black hero in a movie. White people (and a few black ones as well) will get upset and storm out the theater, or so I’ve been told. That brings to mind this little scene, which is below the fold, from the 20th Century Fox 1977 survivors-in-a-post-apocalyptic-world sci-fi film Damnation Alley.
Highly anticipated when it came out, the film was a major disappointment, and one major reason was the studio’s savage last minute re-editing reportedly, taking out an entire reel from the film, which explains its narrative gaps.

Time to get sentimental. Were you lucky enough to have one (or both) of your parents nurture your love of movies? More than anyone else in my life, my mother encouraged and inspired my great appreciation of movies.
Most weekday afternoons, I'd walk home from school and find her ironing clothes, cooking dinner, or caring for other household duties, but always with a movie playing on the television in the family room. She'd already worked outside the home, part-time, and I'm sure doing the domestic routines after that were tiring, yet she always asked about my school day, and my homework, and then we'd watch whatever the rest of the movie that was squeezed into the 90-minute time slot allotted for it on TV. (I never realized how severely some of those movies were "edited for television" until years later.) She'd share stories about watching movies when she was a young girl,...

The arts collective known as Factotum have long been an important part of Belfast's cultural landscape through their exhibitions, events and their own newspaper but Ditching marks their debut in the world of feature filmmaking. While the film never quite achieves the lofty heights it obviously has in mind, there is every reason to hope that this will not be their last celluloid endeavour.
Northern Ireland, the future. A major event, though we know not what nor when, has resulted in an almost total breakdown of society. The remaining survivors are left to scrape a daily existence from the land, wandering aimlessly through a desolate wasteland dotted with the occasional ruined building.
This is not some big-budget, post-nuclear Hollywood future where gangs do battle on souped-up machines with radioactive mutants.

Joliet, Il - Dan Aykroyd is on a mission from vodka. The Blues Brother is cruising around the country in a Damnation Alley Rv promoting his Crystal Skull premium vodka. He rolled into my town and I was compelled to see the man.
He was appearing at a liquor store on a Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. What sort of crowd could he draw? I showed up at 1 p.m. with my four month old designated driver. There was already 400 people in line. Another 300 people end up behind us. Luckily Dan’s traveling partner announced that even though Dan was schedule to leave at 4:30, he’d be signing his bottles until the last person went home happy.
Why not? Each bottle cost $50. I’ve been told that there’s only two types of vodka in the world: Good vodka and vodka that makes you go blind and piss blood.

So, what are you doing After the Apocalypse? Have you planned your post-civilization existence yet? Hidden an All-Terrain vehicle away at your fortified vacation cabin? Salted in supplies of beef jerky, evaporated milk, canned beans and Spam? Can opener? Crossbow & bolts? Heavy blankets? Snuggie? Guns & ammo? Geiger counter? Crossword puzzles? A case of toilet paper and Post-It Notes might also be helpful. Supermarkets and big box stores just aren’t going to be open after the world ends. Wal-Mart, maybe. McDonald’s. And Starbucks, of course.
It’s a fair question, this consideration of Life After the Fall. Survivalists are probably best prepared for the eventuality, but we science fiction fans can’t be far behind. Inadvertently, we’ve done the research. We’ve studied up by watching our share of films (Five, the Mad Max trilogy, On The Beach, Panic In The Year Zero, Waterworld, The Day After Tomorrow,...
