Spaghetti Jungle Western?
Bezenby5 December 2018
What a load of crap! Although I'm glad that the 'Carnal Violence' advertised with this film isn't any more than you get in average Italian film from this era, I was expecting more that what was basically a Spaghetti Western in the jungle.

Two hunters in the jungle are tracking stock footage of a big cat when they find a man near death in a clearing. The man has been bitten by a spider and the bite has turned septic. What's more worrying is the girl chained up in the hut, and the tale she's got to tell about the guy who is just about to have his hand chopped off...

You see, soon-to-be one handed Aldo Sambrell and two of his mates are escaped convicts, and have also stolen a valuable goblet from a church. Looking for somewhere to stash their goods and hide out for a while, the trio head for the jungle, attacked two women working in a restaurant where one dies and one bad guy gets a face full of soup and is shortly stabbed in the gut for his trouble. The remaining two convicts head for the jungle to double cross each other and take the surviving women with them as a plaything.

What starts off as a fairly grim and nasty crime film degenerates into a totally boring romance as the women is rescued by the hunters, one of whom turns out to be a ranch owner. Be prepared to learn a lot about horses as these two fall in love while Aldo Sambrell tries to flog his stuff, gets a team together, and decides to get revenge on the hunter (for saving his life? Don't ask me!).

You might be prepared to let the lull in the middle of the film slide if the finale wasn't so underwhelming. Like a Western, the bad guys storm the ranch but then most seem to disappear and what we're left with is a kind of wet fart of a ending. I guess it's true what they say - some films are obscure for a reason. If they had maintained the level of gore and violence displayed at the start of this film, it could have been a good 'un.

At least no animals were harmed - stock footage only, folks.
