A TV series with Karl Urban as Judge Dredd? This could be a reality pretty soon. Come inside for more details!
A few months ago, we were thrilled to report that a Judge Dredd TV show was in the works at Im Global. What we didn't know at the time was who would be playing our favorite judge. The odds were that it would probably be a new person, but the hopes were it would be an actor and a story that would do the character justice, like Karl Urban did in his 2012 representation.
Well a quote collected from comicbook.com, and taken at the Star Trek Las Vegas Convention, had Karl Urban revealing this interesting bit of news:
“I am in discussions with them about that,” Urban revealed. “I told them that if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there.

The Climber (1976) is now available Blu-ray From Arrow Video
After shooting cult favorites Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula in Europe, Joe Dallesandro spent much of the seventies making movies on the continent. In France he worked with auteurs like Louis Malle and Walerian Borowczyk, and in Italy he starred in all manner of genre fare from poliziotteschi (Savage Three, Season for Assassins) to nunsploitation (Killer Nun).
The Climber follows in the tradition of gangster classics such as The Public Enemy and Scarface as it charts the rise and inevitable fall of small-time smuggler Aldo (Dallesandro). Beaten and abandoned by the local gang boss after he tries to skim off some profits for himself, Aldo forms his own group of misfits in order to exact revenge…

Can a new developer and the new setting of Battlefield: Hardline bring some fresh ideas to EA's popular Fps series?
The Battlefield series has long been the chief alternative to Activision's Call Of Duty, and like the faster-paced license, it's stuck to the same, military-based formula year in, year out. It's grown over time, with new additions to the game giving players a reason to choose EA's title. We've had mixed on-foot and vehicular combat, large destructible environments, squad-based co-op, and the recent level evolution of the fourth game, but despite this slew of upgrades, Call Of Duty has always dominated.
So, new series developer, Visceral, of Dead Space fame, has taken up the challenge of the next game. It takes over from Dice, and has chosen to take the series in a different direction. Gone is the military combat, replaced by a cops and robbers setup, with a single...

This fantastic set of trilogy art features three of the live-action versions of the iconic Batman villain the Joker. Sci-fi crime thriller Almost Human takes place in a world full of exciting new technology. Here are the inventions we covet the most…
Feature
The year is 2048. Evolving technologies can no longer be regulated. Dangerous advancements forever alter the criminal landscape. Police are not prepared. Law enforcement combats this corruption with a new line of defence... but not all are created equal.
Technology porn is an undeniable part of Almost Human’s attraction. J.H. Wyman’s sci-fi crime drama takes place in a world stuffed with cool gadgets, from big ticket items like its car-flipping synthetic humans to just-for-fun inventions like tiny robotic giraffes.
It’s an impressive feat of world-building that not only recalls the show’s sci-fi heritage (from Blade Runner to Battlestar Galactica, Almost Human proudly wears its influences on its sleeve) but also ensures its audience are held convincingly in thrall.

A lot of you watched the premiere of Almost Human last night. Who wouldn't want to see J.J. Abrams launch another TV series given his track record of Lost and the cult hit Fringe? I eagerly watched and, for the most part, enjoyed the show. I will definitely be tuning in tonight for the second part of the premiere. The following is a list of what I loved and hated in the opening hour of Almost Human.
What I Loved...
Karl Urban and Michael Ealy - You gotta love Karl Urban for being Karl F****** Urban. The opening sequence had my buddy and I screaming "I Am The Law" with every take down, headshot, and explosion. No, he's not the emotionless Dredd we've seen before, but the action hero is still there. The brooding, anger, and never say die attitude though was what I expected, and I was not disappointed.

Sylvester Stallone has had as inconsistent a filmography as any actor, having enjoyed success with the beginnings of his Rocky and Rambo franchises, before casually jettisoning these series with increasingly inferior instalments (though the last Rambo and Rocky films did somewhat regain their rep). However, that’s really the least of it; Stallone has had a number of hits outside of his most iconic roles, though he’s probably had more flops, especially in recent years, opting for an increasingly desperate and mindless array of action films and thrillers that do little to demonstrate the talent we know he has.
You need only take a look at Stallone’s stunning monologue at the end of First Blood to remember that he can be a great actor when he wants to be, though these days, he’s mostly happy just mining nostalgia and pretending that he’s not in his mid-sixties...

Despite Karl Urban uttering, “I am the law” his overall demeanor was just one of the many disappointments in the new film take on the classic 2000 Ad hero, Judge Dredd. Dredd is out on home video this week from Lionsgate and it is amazing how bored I was watching it. The majority of the 96 film takes place in the Peach Trees Block and is effectively Dredd playing John McLane, trying to survive a sealed off building under siege.
It’s hard to watch this without comparing it with the Sylvester Stallone misfire of the 1990s. While the story sucked and the star violated the character by taking his helmet off a lot, it looked like the weekly comic come to life. The high tech, futuristic clutter of Mega City One was expertly captured, reminding us of how much the visual of Blade Runner derived from the British comic which has been around since 1977. Also,...

With 2012 drawing to a close, James looks back over the year's movies - as seen from a strange alternate universe...
So 2012, then. Helluva ride, huh? I saw many films and some of them were films within films and films about films and now we’ve all ended up in a disaster movie of our own at the arrival of the Mayan apocalypse that Mel Gibson warned us about way back when. We didn’t even get to enjoy Christmas.
Never mind though. Before Jaguar Paw came screaming out of the Mesoamerican rainforest and we all perished as doomsday struck, we watched some brilliant movies. The past calendar year has been packed with superb cinematic releases, and looking back from the other side of oblivion, I see that we were spoiled.
Unfortunately, from this standpoint on the flipside of forever, I can’t actually see the old timeline of reality.

“I can’t believe I agreed to this,” Bruce muttered, as he locked the front door of Wayne Manor.
“Hey, Bats!” a cheerful voice exclaimed from behind. Bruce turned.
“Peter,” he grumbled at the young man standing in the driveway. “I told you not to call me that when I’m out of the suit.”
“Sorry, Bats! Forgot,” Peter Parker replied merrily.
Bruce groaned inwardly. Here we go again, he thought. “Peter, what are you doing here?” he asked.
“I came to keep you company on the drive!” said Peter. “Plus, you know… Alfred thought if I didn’t, you might not come.”
“So… you came all the way out here just to turn around and go right back?” Bruce said wryly, walking to the car.

"I am the law!"
Back in 1995, before comic book movies attracted Academy Award-winning actors and broke box office records on a regular basis, quintessential tough-guy actor Sylvester Stallone took a shot at the genre by starring as the then-unknown (in America) title hero in director Danny Cannon's (The Young Americans) Judge Dredd adaptation.
The violent, effects-driven sci-fi adventure movie has polarized audiences since its debut, with many reviling it for its lack of continuity with the comic books and its unnecessary comic relief, but others revering it as one of Stallone's most entertaining movies. Tune in tonight and "judge" Stallone's turn as a comic book hero for yourself.

If you’ve never read the Frank Miller comics from the ’80s that the two-part “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns” animated movies are based on, you probably have no idea that this trailer gives away a Lot of the good stuff. Really, come on, guys, you’re throwing in the Superman-Batman fight already? Sheesh. But hey, I guess that’s what they think will sell. The Joker, by comparison, barely shows up in the trailer at all, and he has an even bigger role than Supes does in the story. In any case, check out the first trailer for “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2″. "Dredd 3D" may have opened sixth at the box office last weekend, but it was first in our hearts. The latest "Judge Dredd" adaptation is truly one of the best action films of this past year, despite its lackluster number of ticket sales. Don't believe us? Go see it for yourself! Seriously, go see it or else they can't make a sequel.
Taking place in the dystopian society of Mega-City One, "Dredd 3D" sees Judge Dredd and his partner, Judge Anderson, waging war on a deadly gang of drug dealers. The drug in question? A reality-altering inhalant called "Slo-Mo," which does exactly what you'd think it does. As an officer of the law, Dredd has the combined powers of police, judge, jury, and executioner.
In short, he is the law — as well as our Hero of the Week!

Created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, at the request of Pat Mills, Judge Dredd is perhaps one of the UK's greatest and best-known comic book characters, having been featured in Britain's premier sci-fi anthology 2000 Ad for over three decades now.

"I am the law!" Ready to talk about Judge Dredd? Arriving in theaters this weekend is the gritty, badass new take on the 2000 Ad comic book character, played by Karl Urban this time around. Dredd 3D is directed by Pete Travis, but the screenplay is credited to Alex Garland, well known in the sci-fi world as writer of the scripts 28 Days Later, Sunshine for Danny Boyle and Never Let Me Go. I first saw Dredd at Comic-Con (and loved it), but it also just premiered in Midnight Madness at Tiff, where I was given the chance to meet-up with Garland for a quick interview. He's one of my favorite writers and I jumped at the opportunity. This interview is mostly spoiler-free on anything Dredd 3D, but does get heavy on Judge Dredd details. I also had to ask him about those bullsh*t The Raid comparisons, which definitely seem to...

This week, as part of their Midnight Movies programming block, the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff, for the acronym-inclined) will premiere "Dredd," a 3D sci-fi movie written by Alex Garland, Danny Boyle's genre partner-in-crime (he wrote "The Beach," "Sunshine," and "28 Days Later" for the "Slumdog Millionaire" director). "Dredd" is a whacked-out, satirical, borderline psychedelic sci-fi movie about a pair of high tech law enforcers trapped inside a building that makes Nakatomi Plaza from "Die Hard" seem like the Disneyland Hotel. The question is -- how will this futuristic thrill ride play away from the frenzied film festival midnight crowds? It will probably play well. But we wanted to look at it in more measured context. Feel free to (wait for it) judge on your own. Pro: It's Nothing Like the 1995 Movie It's easy to forget that this is the second big screen incarnation of "Judge Dredd," a character created...

Stepping into the titular role is Karl Urban and most critics are saying that his portrayal of the character is better than that of Sylvester Stallone’s, who portrayed the character back in 1995.
Just in case you’re still on the fence about who’s the better Judge, Sly or Karl, today we have a new clip for you that while brief, does show off our beloved hero delivering his classic line: “I am the law.”
Admittedly, I think his delivery his better than his predecessor and from everything we’ve seen, I think Urban and director’ Pete Travis’ attempt to make the character so non-empathetic is really working out well.

With only a week to go until Dredd 3D hits the big screen here in the UK – and only three until its release in the Us – things are looking pretty awesome for Pete Travis’ adaptation of the classic 2000 Ad character.
After catching a great new TV spot and clip from the film last week, we’ve got another new clip to share, in which Dredd makes his presence felt.
Karl Urban takes the lead as the eponymous Judge Dredd, with Olivia Thirlby at his side as Judge Anderson, and Lena Headey as the antagonist, Ma-Ma.
“Dredd takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. "I am the law!" Judgment is indeed coming, you better watch out. Lionsgate has revealed the final official poster for Dredd 3D, starring Karl Urban as the new Judge Dredd adapted from the 2000 Ad comics. We got to see this movie at Comic-Con and I totally loved it, Ethan was impressed by it (watch our video blog), and I can't wait to see it again. Sci-fi awesomeness. The poster shows Dredd (who never removes his helmet) standing tall over the burning backdrop of Mega City One, which he should not be proud of. It's a badass poster, I think, because the focus should be on Dredd, who is the badass in this. Tip to B-d for first finding. Today sees the release of the first trailers for a pair of movies people have been anxious to see more of (for one reason or another). They might not be everything you want, but it's finally our first real look at these upcoming films.
I'm not lying when I say that I completely forgot Dredd (the Judge Dredd reboot) was coming out this year; really just a few months. Marketing for this film has been almost nil so far and we didn't even get a poster until recently. Comic fans have been anxiously waiting for footage from the film to see if the reboot will be worth it or not and today gives them that chance:
Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about this film. Parts of it look interesting, but there are still parts of it that look like a glorified fan film. The scant few images we've received had me similarly conflicted,...

One remake no one ever expected to happen was a remake of Judge Dredd, a mid 90′s action vehicle, which starred Sylvester Stallone marching around a gigantic city, with a red bucket on his head shouting: “I am the law” at young criminals before shooting them. It was bad. And it did hideous business. But there’s always the chance for reinvention and with Alex Garland (28 Days Later) behind the script, a remake could produce something interesting. So does the sparkly new trailer, released today, suggest a decent reinvention of the character?
Well. Hmm. No. Set in the future, the story follows Dredd (played by Karl Urban) a violent law enforcer who has to bring down a drug lord called Ma-Ma (Game of Thrones‘ Lena Headey) who is dealing out of her skyscraper apartment building. Coming along with Dredd is his rookie Anderson, played by Olivia Thirlby. The trailer features car chases,...

Judge Dredd does not have the most market-friendly reputation in America, in no short thanks to the 1995 Sylvester Stallone film, widely regarded as a disappointment. So it must mean something good that a reboot is set to come out in September — but we'll get to judge for ourselves in just a few short days.
On Thursday, the first trailer for “Dredd” will drop, possibly kickstarting the hype or disappointing fans still waiting for a righteous adaptation. In anticipation, we’ve listed five things we’re excited to see.
Dredd Himself, Obviously
There are plenty of elements in “Dredd” that may turn out to be worthwhile, but there’s one thing on which the film’s success hinges: the performance of Karl Urban, who will be playing the titular Judge. From what Urban’s said, his mask will never be taken off during the film, which means he’ll have a...

We won't hold it against you if you're a fan of the original "Judge Dredd" movie, released all the way back in 1995. It's become kind of an unintentional camp classic over the years, with Sly Stallone's ruthless emoting and guttural "I Am The Law" barks, but it's also a solid sci-fi action movie, albeit one that deviates quite a bit from the famed comic books.
For "2000 A.D." loyalists, there's a new adaptation coming out this year, called simply "Dredd," that will see "Star Trek"'s Karl Urban as the titular Dredd and "The Wackness"'s Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Dredd's creator John Wagner spoke about his high hopes for the film.
"I like the actors," he said. "They’re well cast and they handled their parts well. Olivia Thirlby is perfect as Anderson, the young psi judge. She gives the character a touching vulnerability.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting post-production problems on DNA Films’ Dredd, a new adaptation of Judge Dredd comic books starring Karl Urban.
Director Pete Travis has been locked out of the editing room, according to their report, after “creative disagreements” with the producers and executives in charge of the movie. The editing is now under the supervisor of the film’s screenwriter, Alex Garland, who has not directed a movie before.
The report continues to say Garland may even seek a co-director credit on the movie, but no decision has been made yet. Still, the fact that Garland sharing credit is being discussed shows you how distant Travis is from the process at this point. As Lat points out, it’s uncommon that a studio would step in and demand changes during editing — though not as infrequent as you might think, e.g. The Godfather — but even more rare...

The line "I Am the law!" might yet still be spoken in Lionsgate's 2012 Dredd, the Karl Urban-starring remake of the gloriously cheesy Sylvester Stallone vehicle about a decorated officer wrongfully accused in a dystopian future, but it looks like director Pete Travis won't be uttering any iteration of that forceful declaration of authority. According to the L.A. Times, Travis has been booted from the remake, which is currently in post-production, while screenwriter Alex Garland steps in to make such significant changes that he might even seek a co-director credit.

The classic 2000Ad character Judge Dredd was first adapted for the big screen in 1995, and the results were flawed, to say the least. Phil takes a look back…
First, let me put my cards on the table. For the best part of thirty years, I have been a huge fan of the character Judge Dredd, and the British comic 2000Ad in which he appears.
I state this at the outset just so that you can appreciate the effort it has taken for me not to revert to tedious and predictable whinging about Stallone removing the helmet, Rob Schneider being cast as Fergee, and Dredd exchanging a kiss with Judge Hershey at the film’s conclusion.
Not for me the polemic of the immovable fan-boy, but rather the dispassionate objectivity of a reasonable film critic, someone who can see that compromises have to be made, and that comic book movie franchises...

Empire has released some new images from Dredd, the new Judge Dredd reboot starring Karl Urban as “I am the Law”, Olivia Thirlby, and Lena Headey as the film’s villain Ma-Ma.
Dredd takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring Dredd to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.
Dredd opens September 21st, 2012.

I am the law! Ooh this is finally starting to look awesome, at least I think it might turn out pretty good. The latest "Heroes of 2012" issue of Empire magazine is packed with a whole bunch of new photos from the upcoming Dredd movie, starring Karl Urban as the new Judge Dredd. We just got a first look last week, but now we have multiple shots of Dredd kickin' ass, and a few other Judge's, including Olivia Thirlby as the young Judge Cassandra Anderson. The scans come from 2000Ad/Bleeding Cool and are worth seeing, as this is looking better with more gritty shots like this. Though Dredd seems quite unhappy. Check 'em out! Every day, come rain or shine or internet tubes breaking, Film School Rejects showcases a trailer from the past. What does it take to destroy Camelot? Apparently love and Richard Gere pausing in the middle of every line. Sean Connery playing King Arthur was a stroke of genius, which makes it even more heartbreaking that the thrust of the plot is about him being awesome and his wife betraying him. Damsels, AmIRight? This is a fantastic movie with internal struggle in the form of forbidden romance that comes perfectly timed with the external struggle of fighting off a huge army of invaders led by a man that says, “I am the law!” Check out the trailer for yourself: Let the film marketers of the past sell you on their movie by checking out more VTOTDs...
