Sex & Nudity

  • A teen boy says to a teen girl, "First, I'll rip your clothes off. Then you'll rip my clothes off. Then we'll rip Lindsey's clothes off." Lindsey is a 9 year old girl.
  • A boy and a girl shown kissing and cuddling go upstairs and offscreen. Sex is implied. Soon after, the girl's breasts are seen as she brushes her hair topless.
  • A young woman spills melted butter on her pants and takes her clothes off to clean them. The side of her breast is shown from behind in only her panties. She then spends the rest of the movie in buttoned shirt and her panties.
  • A girl sits topless in bed after sex. Breasts and nipples seen. In a later scene, her breasts and nipples are again visible while she calls someone on the phone.
  • A man and a woman have sex under sheets. Thrusting is barely seen but it's clear on what they are doing.
  • A woman's dead body is seen stashed in a closet. Her night gown is open. Breasts and nipples briefly visible.

Violence & Gore

  • For a slasher movie, the violence is rather tame and mild in impact. Most of the killings occur offscreen, and blood is pretty mild. Very brief.
  • One man gets nailed to a wall with a kitchen knife
  • A knitting needle is lodged into a person's neck.
  • A woman gets her throat slit in a car.
  • A nurse gets assaulted by the killer when he steals her car.
  • A woman's in the closet as a guy breaks the closet door. The girl stabs him in the chest (no blood).
  • A man's bloody corpse is shown on the side of a road. Blood is shown on his face and head.
  • The Shape strangles a dog to death (we only see the dog's legs starting to limp as he is held in the air and hear whimpering).

Profanity

  • 3 uses of d-mn 4 uses of sh-t 2 uses of a-s

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A woman is shown smoking a cigarette.
  • Two girls share a joint as they drive.
  • A girl and a boy drink beer in a car and are later shown smoking cigarettes while in bed.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The film's atmosphere is incredibly terrifying
  • The iconic score soundtrack heightens the intensity of many scenes.
  • Very scary. Characters walk by and Michael Myers is behind them. Although Michael Myers walks very slowly he still manages to catch up to his prey.
  • Out of the big 4 slashers (others being The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street), Halloween is the tamest and least graphic.
  • There are some jumpscares (characters show up out of nowhere, sometimes it's not even Michael Myers)

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • A woman's breasts and nipples are visible while she is being strangled.

Violence & Gore

  • Laurie Strode stabs Michael in the side of the neck with a knitting needle
  • The killer gets poked in the eye with a clothes hanger.
  • There is very little blood in this film because all kills are very tamed. The only blood we can see is Laurie Strode's arm being slashed
  • A girl is stabbed repeatedly in various areas of her body with a kitchen knife (we only see the knife coming up and down and then see blood on the girl's chest as well as on the blade of the knife).
  • The Shape grabs a girl from behind in a car and begins strangling her; they struggle for several seconds until the man slits the girl's throat with a kitchen knife (no blood is shown; the throat-slitting is extremely brief).
  • The Shape jumps out of a closet and throws a boy against a door; the two struggle until the man impales the boy through the stomach with a kitchen knife, leaving him to dangle there (we only see him raise the knife, hear a crunch, and see the boy's feet starting to limp; the knife is then shown in the boy's stomach from the side; no blood is evident).
  • The Shape strangles a girl to death with a telephone cord; she struggles and gags for several seconds until she dies.
  • Michael attacks Laurie and she locks herself in a closet as he breaks through its doors with his knife; Laurie stabs him in the eye with a coat hanger, causing him to drop his knife, which she then uses to stab him in the chest (not graphic; no blood is shown).
  • Laurie is attacked by Michael for a final time as he attempts to strangle her; they struggle for several seconds until Dr. Loomis enters and shoots Michael six times, causing him to fall off of a balcony to his presumed death in the yard below (no blood is evident).

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In the opening scene, a POV shot shows Michael Myers murdering his sister. This is the scariest scene in the film and will shock viewers even more when the murderer is revealed as a child.
