One of my favorite movies

Anyone who does not love this movie knows nothing of romance. The one poor actor I felt was the movie director and that was probably due to his lack of knowledge of English. All others played wonderful roles. The scenes of Paris are magical and the introduction to French (Parisian) life is very educational. I remember particularly the game of Boules. In fact I tried to find such a game while in the south of France for two weeks last month, based on what I learned from this great movie.

I have not seen this movie in more than ten years and I was searching for it when I came across this. Sure hope I can find a place to download it soon.

A feeble film
robert-temple-125 October 2010
This is a pathetically uninteresting film. The only thing it has to offer is a terrific performance by Jack Lenoir as a character named Jean-Paul, a Parisian chauffeur who is a larger-than-life figure and a charming rogue. Lenoir died in 1981 aged only 54, which is why he is not better known. Apart from Lenoir, this film is not only empty but it contains characters who are repulsive, played by the leads Wayne Rogers and Gayle Hunnicutt. The Rogers character is so spoilt, narcissistic, brash, arrogant, and unsympathetic that one longs to throw him in the Seine with concrete weights tied to his ankles. The leading lady is played by Hunnicutt looking even more sinister and cat-like than usual. She is meant to be a woman of mystery, but the mystery is why would anybody give her a second look, as her supposed beauty is cadaverous and so decadent that I can only imagine a ghoul taking her seriously. Six years earlier, Hunnicutt had been very good indeed in the classic British TV series adaptation of the Henry James novel, THE GOLDEN BOWL (1972). That was the high point of her career. But she always repelled me as a woman, as I always thought there was the chill of the morgue about her. Nowhere have I seen that more evident than in this appalling film. Because Hunnicutt is well known for speaking fluent French, that came in handy for this film set in Paris, so that may be why she was cast. The story is about an odious young American screenwriter who makes his first trip to Paris and has a romance with Hunnicutt. How original can you get?

Fine adult exploration of adultery

I'm amazed no one has commented on this fine movie. It's humorous, bittersweet, mature, moving. You like the characters played by both Wayne Rogers and the stunning Gayle Hunnicutt.

This movie is so vastly superior to such as A Touch of Class (which has similar themes) and is well worth anyone's time. Beautiful scenery too!

I loved Once in Paris

Warning: Spoilers
This raw romantic comedy was very entertaining, with charming relatable characters who faced a common human dilemma that one took more seriously than the other. It left me wondering if Hunnicut's character was as tempted to commit as Roger's character, but ultimately rejected him because she knew she couldn't be faithful; or if she was enjoying the attraction as just another short lived pleasure. I also wondered if she wanted him to discover her sexual encounter with Lenoir's character so it would be easier for him to accept her rejection. All interesting food for thought which they all played so beautifully. I too was intrigued by Boules which reminded me of the italian game of Bocce. Loved it all.
