- Piotrek Krawczyk: [looking at a roll of motion picture film] It's beautiful what you guys do. A person's no longer alive, yet she's still here. It's beautiful.
- Irka Mosz: Why did they buy all this?
- Filip Mosz: Why? The Director wants me to film our anniversary celebration I'm to shoot the whole thing. It's a big deal.
- Irka Mosz: Why you?
- Filip Mosz: I'm the only one with a camera.
- Filip Mosz: A film? But I wouldn't know how, sir. I just bought it...
- Director: You'll learn. You know how I learned about gardening? From books. And Stasio learned about stamps from books. You have a camera.
- Stanislaw Osuch: A brother-in-law of mine started believing in God at age 30.
- Filip Mosz: What about it? I'm 30 myself.
- Stanislaw Osuch: It ended badly.
- Filip Mosz: What happened?
- Stanislaw Osuch: He became a priest.
- Irka Mosz: Why are you doing all this?
- Filip Mosz: All what?
- Irka Mosz: The films, the club.
- Filip Mosz: I wanted to film Irenka. I don't know. One thing just led to another.
- Irka Mosz: But you're getting hooked.
- Filip Mosz: Yes, I'm getting hooked.
- Filip Mosz: Know what Witek said to me?
- Irka Mosz: No.
- Filip Mosz: He asked how come I had everything.
- Irka Mosz: Like what?
- Filip Mosz: You, the baby, this place. I told him it's all I've ever wanted, and when you really want something, you get it.
- Irka Mosz: It's because you're a good man. It's a kind of justice, isn't it?
- Czeslaw: You know her? That woman has connections. You know who screwed her?
- [whispers in Filip's ear]
- Stelmaszczyk: Interesting concept. So you just film whatever's there?
- Filip Mosz: Yes.
- Stelmaszczyk: I like that.
- Stanislaw Osuch: Know what they call me? "The dilettante." The worst thing is, it's true. I've never been able to settle down with anything or anyone. Time to say good-bye.
- Director: Community affairs can't always be open and public. One must be very careful when speaking up not to destroy something in the process.
- Kedzierski: I suppose you want to be an artist?
- Filip Mosz: No, I don't think so.
- Kedzierski: Thank God.
- Filip Mosz: What if I took full responsibility for my actions?
- Director: No. You're young. You can make mistakes.
- Filip Mosz: But it wasn't a mistake. I showed what I did because it's the truth.
- Krzysztof Zanussi: Who's funding you?
- Filip Mosz: Management.
- Witek Jachowicz: But they have to approve our scripts.
- Krzysztof Zanussi: Someone always has to approve scripts - mine included.
- Stanislaw Osuch: These things will happen to you more and more often, but you have to keep moving ahead. If you feel you're right, the rest doesn't matter. You'll never know whom you'll be helping or whom you'll be working against, just as you didn't know in this case. You'll help some and harm others. You're a sensitive man, so it will be hard, but you must always do as you feel. Something good has awoken in you. Hang on to that.
- Kedzierski: We constantly ask ourselves if what we're saying is objectively true or wise, while remaining incapable of defining the ideal criteria for that. We all hope that our films will contribute to changing society and mankind. But we mustn't deceive ourselves. We're not engineers of the soul, capable of bringing about changes in society with a single film. The process is a relative one. There are no absolute criteria. We don't know and that uncertainty is our strength. It drives us to say things over and over again different ways - more clearly, more explicitly.
- Director: Look at that. Look how beautiful the world is. People live and love. That's worth focusing on too. In your films everything's so gloomy and sad.
- Filip Mosz: It's true. Only nature can be shown as it really is.
- Filip Mosz: When you edit, remember that when a long shot is followed by a close-up, the person has to be on the same axis. Understand?
