Maidaan Box Office Does Not Hold Up On The 2nd Monday ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
It has been another historic day for Ajay Devgn since he collected the lowest for his film Maidaan on the 12th day of its release. The film grew over the weekend with massive jumps of almost 90% but has fallen apart with the second Monday!
Maidaan Day 12 Collection
On the 12th day of its release, early trends suggest that Ajay Devgn’s sports drama has collected almost 80 – 90 lakh, and it would be a herculean task to cross the 1 crore mark.
The massive drop definitely suggests a gloomy week for Maidaan ahead. The film currently stands at 35.69 crore, and there is no significant change in numbers with the 12th-day reports.

Box Office – Do Aur Do Pyaar comes close to 3.50 crores over the weekend, is on the same lines as Laapataa Ladies (Photo Credit –Facebook)
Do Aur Do Pyaar was stable on Sunday as 1.35 crore came in. This is a bit of an increment over Saturday collections of 1.28 crore, though a higher growth that would have taken the film past the 1.50-1.75 crore range would have been even better.
The film is running at the selected count of screens and shows because Eid releases Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan still have maximum showcasing. For Do Aur Do Pyaar to challenge that further, it needs to keep demonstrating even better occupancy at the screens where it’s already playing so that collections from Monday onwards also keep the momentum going. Looking at the trend so far, it could well turn out to be the case, and hopefully, Bollywood will have something...

Bol Bachchan (2012) Was A Remake Of 1979 Film Gol Maal ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
It has been 45 years since Hrishikesh Mukerjee’s classic film Gol Maal was released in the theaters. The film received a cult status the moment people walked out of the theaters smiling. And it still leaves you with a smile whenever you watch the classic.
The film starred Amol Palekar and Utpal Dutt in the lead role, with Bindiya Goswami, Shubha Khote, and Dina Pathak in the supporting lead. It earned a blockbuster status at the box office.
Years later, Rohit Shetty was so inspired by the film that he took inspiration twice. Once for Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, which borrowed only the name of the Og classic, and for the second time, he attempted a remake that was titled Bol Bachchan!

His portrayals of the idiosyncratic, moustache-fanatic, and rule-imposing Bhawani Shankar or the stern Acp Dhurandhar Bhatawadekar in a brace of breezy Bollywood comedies are undeniably unforgettable, but he played a more realistic role in ‘Guddi’ – that gentle deconstruction of the glittering yet hollow edifice of filmdom.
Utpal Dutt, as Prof Gupta in the 1971 film, knows neither scolding nor advice will change the filmstar-struck teenager (then Jaya Bhaduri in her first Hindi film), and the only way out is to let her indulge in fascination with films and learn first-hand the artificiality, heartbreaks, and struggle that lies behind them.
Portraying a teacher, with innovative ideas, was not difficult for Dutt, who was born on this day (March 29) in Bengal’s Barisal (now in Bangladesh) in 1929. He had been an English teacher in (then) Calcutta’s South Point School in the 1950s and earned his students’ admiration for his insights into literature,...

Ott platforms have not just changed the rules of the entertainment market, they have given, literally, a second life to Bollywood stars who had faded away from the public eye for quite some time. Of late, a number of senior actors, who had virtually retired from the industry or had limited theatrical releases, are now being reinvented and getting a hugely positive response to their work, courtesy of streaming platforms.
Here’s a list of nine actors who are back in the reckoning in their second innings because of Ott:
Harman Baweja
The actor made his debut with the 2008 release “Love Story 2050”, directed by his father Harry Baweja, and charmed the audience with his dancing skills (and little else!), but he was dismissed by all as the poor man’s Hrithik Roshan.

And this was recognised by his peers. There is a story that once he and Raj Kapoor were at the Calcutta airport in 1973, when a cinema fan went to the latter to get his autograph and was told to approach Dutt first, with the master showman saying that he was only a "star", but Dutt was an actor!
While Dutt’s sense of timing, the funny intonation, and the maniacal gleam and laughter he could produce at will, served him well in comedy as "Gol Maal" (1979), "Rang Birangi" – with its slapstick chase through a children’s playground, "Kissi Se Na Kehna" (both 1983), "Lakhon Ki Baat" (1984), et al, attest, he could deftly turn the same mannerisms to display a marked unrepentant villainy.

It is agreed by all that Bollywood is lights, colour and music. It’s a little overacting, a little or sometimes a lot of dramatics, but most of all it sets itself apart by the power, emotionality and beauty conveyed in its music. For those who live for Bollywood’s songs, it is a privilege to have it in our lives: to know that any feeling can be expressed with just the right formation of tune, singers and lyrics. The tune is formulated by a composer, the singers perform based on instruction and style but it all wraps around the lyrics. A lyricist is a poet and in Bollywood he/she is given great powers to make even the most club beat song into a heartbreaker. And with the current state of the world, we have a chance to pause and look back on some of Bollywood’s greatest masters of this art,...

While we get to watch new films all the time, the lockdown could be a golden chance to catch up with a few classics across genres. Digital platforms are overflowing with them, and you would literally be spoilt for choice selecting some really enjoyable stuff that has come out of Bollywood over the decades. Twenty-one days, it would seem, is too short a time to catch up with what really defines vintage Bollywood and is available in the Ott libraries.
Ians picks a few old films that you might want to revisit, that will let you relax and bust the stress of lockdown. Of course, this is not a definitive list.
* Chupke Chupke (1975)
Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, the comedy film is about a man pretending to be a driver and fooling his wife's brother-in-law as an attempt to prove that the brother-in-law is not as smart as he claims to be.

Simmba
Starring Ranveer Singh,Ajay Devgan, Sara Ali Khan. Ashutosh Rana
Directed by Rohit Shetty
As far as getting a kick out of the movie-viewing experience is concerned, there is nothing like a larger-than-life over-the-top drama on social awakening.
Simmba is a kick in the groin for all rapists, and potential rapists. I doubt rape will decline after this film. But at least those who think of violating women would blush a bit.
The second-to-last sequence of this loud but effective anti-rape/anti-corruption film shows ‘Simmba’ Ranveer Singh sitting in the courtroom with his mentor ‘Singham’ Ajay Devgan. The two khaki-clad praise-vardi vigilantes come to the one decisive conclusion: cops need to put the fear of God and Law into rapists before this heinous crime winds its way out of the male libido.
Until then, there are the encounters of the cop kind. This film makes a disturbing case for bumping off legally-absolved rapists,...

The makers of Vicky Donor are back with 2015’s first family entertainer, Piku starring stalwarts Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan! Quirky and funny with oodles of situational humor, the film highlights the eccentricities within every Indian family, told in signature Shoojit Sircar style.
If the popularity of the trailer on the social media platform is anything to go by, Piku is amongst the most anticipated films this year. While this film about a crazy father-daughter duo is packaged with ingredients that make for a perfect family comedy, director Shoojit Sircar seems to be bringing back the slice-of-life-cinema which was made popular by filmmakers like Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
A huge admirer of Mukherjee’s work, Shoojit explores a relatable story and human relationships reminiscent of Hrishikesh Mukherjee films like Gol Maal, Mili, Chupke Chupke, Guddi promising clean entertainment to the audiences after a long time.

Film: "Chennai Express", Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Director: Rohit Shetty, Rating: ***
Dammit! No out-takes!! Is this really a Rohit Shetty film? Every film of the "Gol Maal" director has so far ended with out-takes giving us entertaining glimpses from during the making of the film. Here those trademark Shetty out-takes are replaced by a Honey Singh track which celebrates Rajnikanth and the lungi.
The rest of the film resembles those typical sambar-and-sandalwood creations by K. Raghvendra Rao, and worse still, Raj Kanwar's "Dhai Akshar Prem Ke" where Aishwarya to escape her parental wrath at her elopement,.

In fact in another ready-for-release film entitled The Struggler, Mahesh Manjrekar plays a struggler whose dream finally comes true when he meets his idol Amitabh Bachchan. Manjrekar's film has been ready for nearly 6 years now with no one willing to release the unusual experimental film. But now with Viacom 18's Bombay Talkies on release, Manjrekar is all set to find an outlet for his film. Says Manjrekar, "It's one of Amitji's undiscovered little gems. "A lot of people told us that we didn't need to buy the rights. But ideally, if a film inspires.

Get ready to laugh and marvel at all the stunts with Rohit Shetty’s latest film, Bol Bachchan, starring Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan with their leading ladies Asin and Prachi Desai. The film is inspired by the 1979 comedy gem, Gol Maal, with Amol Palekar playing a double role for his strict boss Utpal Dutt. As with most Rohit Shetty films, there’s a good mix of stunts, plotlines given away, and some fabulous dishoom dishoom which the trailer gets us hyped for. The girls look lovely here, but are mainly restricted to swishing their hair around! The trailer definitely sets up the comedy of mistaken identity, where Abbas Ali (Abhishek Bachchan) who is clearly on the wrong side of...
