According to Bob Woodward's John Belushi biography "Wired", Talia Shire thoroughly enjoyed working with Belushi in this film. Knowing his drug problem, she told Belushi after the film wrapped he was a great actor when not using drugs and that she wanted to work with him again in the future. Unfortunately, with Belushi's untimely death three years later, she didn't get the opportunity.
According to John Belushi's widow, Judy, Belushi never saw this film. When it opened in New York City, he sent his wife instead, saying he didn't enjoy his part in it. She returned with praise for the film.
The screenplay was originally entitled "Old Girlfriends", and the plot involved a man seeking out three women he had loved in the past. The gender switch was mainly the inspiration of director Joan Tewkesbury, who did extensive uncredited rewriting on the script.
First theatrical feature film in which actor-comedian John Belushi sang.
This movie and 'Continental Divide' (1981) are John Belushi's only dramatic feature film roles though 'Continental Divide' (1981) is also a comedy i.e. a romantic-comedy, dramedy or romantic-comedy-drama.
