The Title Says It All
crossbow01067 March 2009
I'm giving this film a six but I wish it was much better than this. The beautiful Cherie Chung plays the title character, an exercise teacher who is wooed by a rich, older businessman (Yuen Chor) and a young photographer (Tony Leung Ka-fai). You watch Cherie as she bounces between these two, not really liking the businessman, while the photographer is more in love with her image as his model than as a true love. What I wanted to see is less silly nonsense and more in the way of a matter of the heart. You get Cherie going on dates, trying to make sense of her life, fine. What you mostly don't get is Cherie being a strong female character standing up to these guys. That may be the point, but it would have been a better film if her character stood up to them in a way that made them out to be the unsuitable and unworthy suitors, for different reasons, they seem to be. Cherie Chung looks amazing in this film, to me she was one of HK's screen beauties. I like the film because she is the focal point but I wanted to see more depth. The film is watchable and a shade less than ninety minutes, but I wished there was more to her character.
