A good movie based on a huge Reiser comic book
stevekrief30 January 2006
Le Gros Dégueulasse is the story of a fat, rude, smelly and dirty in every way possible man who tries to find his place in everyday life. The cover on Reiser's book presents him with greasy hair, a big nose, ashes falling from his mouth, a T-shirt which could be used in liquid powder commercials, a beer gut, yellow and brown underpants with shades of white from which his genitals fall, and most important of all a friendly wave and smile. Because that was Reiser's greatest talent: to render despised persons more human than the well mannered cattle. The movie, lacking a great budget and technical enthusiasm, still offers a very close portrayal.

Bad taste at the most, but not only that.

Warning: Spoilers
At first sight it is a surprising and disgusting story about a horrible dirty fat man who takes pleasure to interfere with other people occupations and exhibit himself with his dirty underweares. Bad taste at a level you can't even imagine. I perfectly understand that most people can't like this film. I myself had to fight hard to follow the one till the end. From time to time, I pushed on the fast forward button. But the end, speaking of it, was very surprising, probably one of the most unpredictable end of all movie history. And I have watched thousands and thousands of film in my life. Finally it is a very sad tale about loneliness. Yes a very sad story in the end. But it remains a hard film to Watch from the beginning to the end. Not for all audiences.
