Francis Lawrence's 2007 post-apocalyptic drama "I Am Legend" is based loosely on the celebrated 1954 novel by Richard Matheson. The original novel is set in the near future of 1976 when a destructive war has ravaged the Earth, and a horrible virus has infected the survivors. The virus transforms its victims into pale-skinned, nocturnal ghouls with an appetite for human blood, more or less making them vampires. The novel follows Robert Neville, seemingly the last human alive, as he tries to survive in a ravaged Los Angeles and study the virus during the daylight hours. The title comes from the novel's famous twist ending.
"I Am Legend" was adapted to film in 1964 as "The Last Man on Earth," and in 1971 as "The Omega Man," before Lawrence's 2007 version. Lawrence's version transposes the action to New York and makes Neville (Will Smith) into a surviving virologist attempting to come up with a cure for the vampire virus.

However, an attempt to get Netflix to bite on a sequel to the late Heath Ledger’s medieval rom-com “A Knight’s Tale” was recently passed on thanks to a clinical computer assessment. According to the original film’s director, Brian Helgeland (“Payback,” “Legend”), in an interview with Inverse, the filmmaker had recently shopped around an “A Knight’s Tale 2” sequel to Sony and Netflix.

The Soulsborne games have had an incredible uptake in popularity recently, with Bloodborne being one of FromSoftware’s highly challenging masterpieces. All the way back in 2009, FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki presented Demon’s Souls to the world, which, although unconventional, was still incredibly well-received by critics and fans alike.
As time has passed, we’ve got a bunch of new experiences from the studio, such as Elden Ring, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and, of course, the Dark Souls trilogy.
But it turns out that Bloodborne may have had a bigger impact on the trilogy’s third outing than many usually perceive.

Growing up in a less-than-affluent household, it wasn’t until his 20s that Tom Cruise found his footing in Hollywood, thanks to 1983’s Risky Business. However, unlike Conor McGregor, who is said to have made history with his earnings from Doug Liman’s Road House remake, the Legend Star was paid considerably less for his debut role.
But while it was nowhere close to his later salaries, which saw the actor racking in millions, the Oscar-nominated actor used his first salary to perform an invaluable act for his sibling. Tom Cruise Put His Earnings From Risky Business to His Sister’s College Fees

Writer, director, and producer Ridley Scott has been making movies for decades, but one of his earliest features was also apparently one of his most difficult. The man behind "Napoleon" (read our review!) is no stranger to directing historical epics, real-world dramas, and even existential science-fiction, but in an interview with Wired in 2007, he revealed that the most difficult film to create was his 1982 science fiction classic, "Blade Runner." Loosely based on the 1968 Phillip K. Dick novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?," "Blade Runner" is a noirish sci-fi starring Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, who hunts down renegade android "replicants" in his job as a blade runner. In the course of hunting down a handful of such replicants that escaped from an off-world labor camp, he starts to question the very nature of humanity. It's heady, moody stuff, but it's also a deeply beloved film that inspired both a sequel and an animated series.

Tributes continue to pour in after the death this week of 101-year-old television pioneer Norman Lear.

With the exception of Sanford & Son and Good Times on Peacock and 227 on Hulu, no Lear-created show can be accessed on a subscription streaming outlet. Give a sci-fi action script to either Ridley Scott or James Cameron and you're gonna get one hell of a movie. So it shouldn't be that surprising that both directors knocked it out of the park with their respective "Alien" films. Of course, Scott's original 1979 effort still reigns supreme, but if Cameron is known for anything besides consistently making obscene amounts of money at the box office and proving every single naysayer wrong, it's his ability to churn out some of the best sequels Hollywood has ever seen.
Such was the case with "Aliens," the 1986 follow-up to Scott's first movie that will soon be getting the full 4K Blu-ray release treatment along with some other classic James Cameron films. The sequel saw the return of Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley, who this time was at the center of a film that veered more into action blockbuster territory than the sci-fi horror of its predecessor.

During Monday’s special “The Road to the Playoffs” episode of “The Voice” Season 24, all four coaches had a blast performing together for the first time. Ridley Scott wasn’t offered the chance to make Alien 2 – and when James Cameron got the job, he wasn’t too happy.
We’ve been chatting for a few weeks on this site about how few filmmakers do a press tour quite like Ridley Scott. He’s – all due respect – in his mid-80s, and was hardly known for holding back when he was younger.
Now? If you ask him a question, you’re getting an answer. It’s really rather refreshing.
Scott is currently promoting his latest epic, Napoleon, before dashing back to finish off Gladiator 2. And in a long interview at Deadline, he was asked to reflect on the moment when he learned that there was going to be a sequel to his 1979 sci-fi classic, Alien, and that James Cameron was going to direct it.
Cameron, Scott recalled in his typical way – “Jim and I talk often.

The end of Season 24’s Knockouts on The Voice wasn’t necessarily the end of the line for four lucky eliminees. Following a particularly excellent three-way sing-off, Carson Daly informed coaches John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire of a change to the rules that allowed them each to invite one contestant back to the show. Who were their picks? That, we won’t find out until Monday’s episode. In the meantime, let’s recap what may have been the KOs’ best night.

Tom Cruise has starred in several genre films in his long career. But there was one film genre he vowed to stay far away from after a horrible experience.
The movie Tom Cruise would never do again Tom Cruise | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Cruise doesn’t have too many fantasy adventure films under his belt. He dabbled with the genre in 1986 by starring in the Ridley Scott feature Legend. The movie saw Cruise playing a hero in a fantastical world that was threatened by the evil villain Darkness.
The Scott flick was already showing signs of trouble before hitting theaters. It seemed the feature was facing many delays in production that attracted much attention from the media. But the Mission Impossible star asserted the film’s production problems were being exaggerated.
“That’s been overblown, first of all. The press kind of took that and blew it out of proportion. It’s a movie-movie,...

It seems only apt that after decades at the top of her game, Michelle Yeoh finally triumphed at the Oscars this year with a performance that transcends both genres and languages. At times, Everything Everywhere All At Once even feels like a greatest hits montage of Yeoh’s already multi-faceted career – blending her most physical performances with her most emotional – going all-in on everything from her monstrous matriarchs to those hard-nosed cops; the delicate wuxia and the properly gnarly face-kicking.
After all, The Yeoh’s journey from Malaysian pageant winner to world-renowned action icon has been anything but straight-forward; there’s any number of reasons she’s as celebrated as she is in genre circles. Obviously she’s very, very, very good at beating people up whilst looking cool, but it’s also impossible to ignore just how much of a pioneer she’s been, not just for women in action,...

Update, 11:25 Am: Disney+’s documentary Howard will not be removed from the service.
“The list of titles coming off of Hulu and Disney+ next week is still being finalized,” a rep for the company said, indicating that there could be additional changes.
As revealed by Canal+ last week, Howard was on the list of titles Disney had sent to its international partners, informing them that they will be taken off the platform May 26. The authenticity of the list was confirmed by Deadline.
Since the titles were made public yesterday, Disney had received backlash over the pending removal of Howard — about famous lyricist Howard Ashman, a gay man, who co-wrote the songs for Disney’s Little Mermaid animated classic — and its timing, on the eve of the release of the live-action Little Mermaid movie and LGBTQ+ Pride Month.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese entreated exhibitors to show independent film — real indies, not ones with an indie “label slapped on,” since that’s the best insurance the industry has going foward. It’s what will beguile and attract new filmmakers to cinemas and “ultimately, one or two might just create the next blockbuster.”
“Getting younger people to enjoy the theatrical experience … on a screen that is bigger and more engaging than films they see home will make a difference,” the director said after receiving CinemaCon’s inaugural Legend of Cinema Award at a lunch Thursday. It was followed by a wide-ranging Q&a with his Killers of the Flower Moon Leonardo DiCaprio that touched on topics from his youth and early film influences, Queens, cinema history and the French and Italian New Wave to Citizen Kane and their latest movie.

The conversation about who could be the next James Bond is, seemingly, eternal. And we’re here to keep peddling that topic of discussion until the new 007 is officially announced (and then we’ll start talking about who could be the next Bond after that). Bond boss Barbara Broccoli has said that a new Bond film is some way off still but given that Daniel Craig‘s final outing as Britain’s best spy came in 2021 (“No Time to Die”), surely some news on the new Bond is coming soon? Either way, here are 30 actors we think would be incredible as agent 007.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Taylor-Johnson is fast becoming the bookies’ favorite. Broccoli said that they are looking for an actor to be Bond for around 15 years. At 32, Taylor-Johnson would tick that box. Plus, the actor has some experience in a big franchise — he starred as Pietro Maximoff in the MCU...

Chrissy Teigen has done this all before - the diaper changes, the late-night feedings, the bleary-eyed happiness. Except this time around, with baby number three, there's a new element at play: confidence.
"Always expect that everything's going to change and evolve," Teigen, 37, says with the wisdom of a seasoned parent. She and husband John Legend welcomed youngest daughter Esti Maxine on Jan. 13, adding to their brood, which already included son Miles, 4, and daughter Luna, 6. This assuredness is new-ish, though, Teigen admits. "I went into it very nervous with Luna. Of course, first baby, you're like, 'Oh my God, what do I have to expect? Can I hold her like this? My milk tastes gross to her. I had garlic. Is that going to give her gas?'" she recounts to Popsugar while speaking about her partnership with the Cord Blood Registry. "It's just like, there's so much to worry about the first time around.

1986 was a big year for Tom Cruise, with Tony Scott’s Top Gun cementing his status as the era’s biggest star. Yet, earlier that year, Universal released a delayed Tom Cruise epic that actually carried a heftier price tag than Top Gun and paired him with that movie’s director, Tony Scott’s brother – Ridley Scott. The film was Legend, and while a pretty notable flop in 1986, it’s since gone on to become something of a classic in the fantasy genre, even if it scared Cruise away from ever attempting another fantasy epic. It remains the only time Ridley Scott directed Cruise and sorting through the myriad cuts of the film, which boasts not one but two exceptional musical scores (Tangerine Dream and Jerry Goldsmith), is a chore. Yet, there’s something to be said about this Grimm’s Fairy Tale for adults – with Tim Curry stealing the...

In keeping with the meme of cinema’s end times, it’s easy to use “Top Gun: Maverick” — and its presumed box-office dominance — as evidence that Tom Cruise Is the Last Movie Star. It’s nonsense, of course; among the current drivers of Hollywood hits are Sandra Bullock, Tom Holland, Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, and Ryan Reynolds. Timothee Chalamet is a rising star; so is Lady Gaga.
Cruise’s long-awaited sequel to his biggest hit opened to 19.26 million in previews, and could gross 150 million across the four-day Memorial Day weekend. Cruise may not be the last star, and he certainly remains one — but his path to stardom is one that no one will be able to walk again. Unlike almost everyone — everyone — else in Hollywood, he doesn’t make TV, but he might become the first actor to shoot a film in space.
