The score for the English version of the film is a completely rerecorded score by original composer Joe Hisaishi. The score was redone because Disney was considering an American theatrical release for the film, but thought it's score was too short for American audiences. Thus, the new score is heavily extended.
Hayao Miyazaki is said to have been pleased with Hisaishi's new, extended score, but it remains a source of debate for fans and purists.
