Confusing diamond heist with several twists
hottentot-127 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, pay attention, because it gets confusing. Matsura Ogora is a diamond-cutting instructor in the Royal Belgian Diamond Company. Taking advantage of his position and power of 20 years, he steals a number of first-quality diamonds. Escaping with his daughter Shuko to Hong Kong, he intends to contact his nephew Miyahon to sell the precious stones. His intention is to invest the money in the salvage of a sunken ship reportedly loaded with gold. His nephew's associate, Zabura, precedes his boss to Hong Kong, kills Matsuta and takes the suitcase that he thinks holds the diamonds, but finds it empty. The police call in detective Tan Liang (Norman Tsui Siu Keung) to investigate and retrieve the diamonds for Belgium. Meanwhile, Miyahon travels to Hong Kong to seek revenge for his uncle. He begins to trade in the diamonds. An assassin, Chin Nu (Chan Wai Man) finds out about a pending deal and kidnaps the merchant, Shen Ying, thinking that the exchange has been made. Shen Ying didn't have enough money for Miyahon at the time however, so the diamonds remain with him. Chin Nu kills Shen Ying. Ying's business partner, Chao Ming (Wang Kuan Hsing) goes on with the diamond deal, reaching an agreement with Shuko and killing Chin Nu. Hot on their tails, Det.Tan Liang threatens Chao Ming. In a subway, Chao Ming completes the trade and escapes, but is pursued by Tan Liang, who arrests him and takes the diamonds; Miyahon and Shuko run out on their own, pursued by a Belgian detective who catches up with Miyahon and they end up killing each other. Instead of handing over the diamonds to the Belgians, Tan Liang takes the precious stones and proposes marriage to Lu Yun who cheats him out of the diamonds and turns out to be with Chao Ming. After a fierce and bloody fight, Chao Ming manages to kill Tan Liang, BUT! he is shot by Shuko (remember her?), who believes that only she should possess the diamonds soaked in her father's blood. Whew!
