To be clear, the network’s wild new graphic-novel adaptation Happy! — debuting this Wednesday at 10/9c — is most definitely not for everyone. Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room. George R.R. Martin’s latest foray into TV made news in June when Syfy picked up an uncast pilot based on his novella “Nightflyers,” and its corresponding 1987 film. That pilot now looks to be getting a straight to series order with a boost from Netflix, who is rumored to be eyeing distribution internationally, second window domestically, and a role as co-producer. Negotiations are still in progress. When it was announced, no talent was attached, but Zane/Pillsbury Casting was signed on to find the pilot’s stars. No word if that team will remain with the project beyond original casting now that it appears to require more than just the inaugural episode.

George R.R. Martin has a pretty hot brand right now. Game of Thrones has been absolutely killing it on HBO ever since its premiere back in 2011, and while one could chalk that up to the copious amounts of sex and violence, there’s no doubt that the series has its foundation in amazing characters and storytelling. Given the success of this series, as well as Martin’s experience in television as a writer and series executive producer, it was only a matter of time before some of his other properties got the small screen treatment.
TheWrap is reporting that Syfy is developing a supernatural thriller based on Martin’s novel Nightflyers (Which was adapted into a film back in 1987). In case you have no idea what the book is (which I’ll assume is most of you), the outlet describes it as follows:

Lisa Blount was found dead Wednesday morning at her home in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was 53. The coroner said she had likely been dead since Monday. Foul play is not suspected, but a cause of death has not been publicly announced. Blount is probably best known for her role in An Officer and a Gentleman, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe, but she also had a significant number of genre roles to her name: Dead & Buried, What Waits Below, Prince of Darkness, Nightflyers, Needful Things, and Stalked to name a few. In the past decade, Blount also began producing. She and husband Ray McKinnon won an Oscar for their short, "The Accountant."...
