Storyline

Plot Summary

A look into the lives (and minds) of some people everyone has encountered but few really ever get to know. This "fish out of water" tale shows how one person can affect a disparate community. The Adlons express the view that change and "magic" comes from hard work and mutual understanding/acceptance. A well-crafted view of the lives of people everywhere and the difficulties we all can face. A whimsical story, lovingly shot by people who--unfamiliar with what others too often ignore given this arid area--the bleak, arid Southwest, an almost fairytale-like beauty. Trivia The setting, Bagdad, California, is a former town on the National Trails Highway (U.S. Route 66). After being bypassed by Interstate 40 in 1973, it was abandoned and eventually razed. While the town had a "Bagdad Cafe," the film was shot at the then Sidewinder Cafe in Newberry Springs, 50 miles west of the site of Bagdad. The cafe has become something of a tourist destination; to capitalize on the film, it changed its name to Bagdad Cafe. A small notice board on the cafe wall features snapshots of the film's cast and crew. In 2015, the motel was torn down and the trailer was removed from the property. See more »

Quotes Brenda: Don't tell me that was it, Arnie! I mean, you gotta be kidding! That what I had you come up here for? I don't believe it! I mean she, she shows up outta nowhere without a car, without a map. She ain't got nothing but a suitcase filled with men's clothing. How come? How come she act so funny like she was gonna stay here forever? And with no clothes?! No! I don't like it! It don't make no sense at all! No, no, no, no, no! It don't make no sense!
