2003's "Hulk" is an anomaly. We haven't had a filmmaker in Ang Lee's mold direct a superhero movie since and probably won't for a long time, if ever again. As /Film as argued before, "Hulk" doesn't always work, but it grasps for heights the Marvel Cinematic Universe wouldn't dream of even trying to reach.
Lee's filmography tells a story, that of a director who never stops experimenting. He has the style of an auteur but traverses genres like a journeyman. Lee began by making comedy films in his native Taiwan, such as "The Wedding Banquet" and "Eat Drink Man Woman." In 1995, he adapted Jane Austen with "Sense and Sensibility." The story's genre wasn't that unfamiliar of territory for him, but it was his first primarily English language film.
He went further west in the rest of the 1990s, first helming the drama "The Ice Storm" before going for the...

Stars: Tom Hendryk, Michael McKell, Helen Crevel, Robin Denys, David Lenik, Mark Topping, Francesca Louise White | Written and Directed by Steve Lawson
Following on from Bram Stoker’s Van Helsing and Ripper Untold, Leicester-based filmmaker Steve Lawson returns with his third take on classic cinematic villains with Jekyll & Hyde; and like those aforementioned movies his story doesn’t take the traditional route, retelling the same story we’ve heard before with a new slant… It’s an interesting low-budget adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novella, Jekyll and Hyde, that’s for sure.
Though if you are looking for a formula, Lawson does follow that which he set out in Bram Stoker’s Van Helsing and Ripper Untold, namely that the film is small-scale, with minimal locations and feels much like a stage play (which it would be if not for the trip to Jekyll’s home) than cinematic...

Leslie Bricusse, Oscar- and Grammy-winning songwriter whose songs for Broadway and Hollywood include “What Kind of Fool Am I?” and “Pure Imagination,” died Tuesday in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France. He was 90.
Bricusse wrote the lyrics for James Bond theme songs “Goldfinger” and “You Only Live Twice,” as well as songs for movies including “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” (including “The Candy Man”), “Scrooge,” “Hook,” “Doctor Dolittle” and “Superman.”
His close friend, Dame Joan Collins, announced the death on Instagram this morning, calling him “one of the giant songwriters of our time.” Bricusse’s son Adam also announced it on Facebook; neither indicated a cause of death.
Over seven decades, the London-born writer-composer was in demand for his clever, witty and tuneful songs, sometimes in collaboration with others and sometimes serving as both lyricist and composer.
“The music illuminates the meaning of the lyric, just as the lyric can have only that melody and no other,...

While I wasn't much of a fan of B. Luciano Barsuglia’s Zombie Farm, Impact Event is the kind of apocalyptic horror movie that might be fun to catch on DVD or VOD.

After a meteor causes a global apocalypse, a small group of survivors takes refuge in an abandoned funhouse and must fight off cannibalistic killers.
