Plot Summary

After a plane crash in the ocean, a group of military students reach an island. Ralph organizes the boys, assigning responsibilities for each one. When the rebel Jack Merridew neglects the fire camp and they lose the chance to be seen by a helicopter, the group split under the leadership of Jack. While Ralph rationalizes the procedures, Jack returns to the primitivism, using the fear for the unknown (in a metaphor to the religion) to control the other boys, and hunting and chasing pigs, stealing the possession of Ralph's group and even killing people. Trivia A few weeks before filming started, Balthazar Getty fell out of a tree and broke both his wrists on his arms. The director decided to write his injuries into the script and put the character Ralph's arm in a sling for half of the film. Reportedly, the then-young actor was in pain throughout the shoot. Piggy: The most important thing is who knows we're here? Nobody knows we're here. They know where we were going, but they don't know where we are because we never got where we were going
Larry: Where were we going?
Piggy: We were going home
Ralph: I'm sure they're out looking for us. We should set up some kind of steady signal like a fire and keep it going all the time. And we're gonna have to have rules
Jack Merridew: Can I have the conch?
[Takes the conch from Ralph]
Jack Merridew: Yes, Ralph's right, we've definitely gotta make a fire
