The 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night featured lots of show-stopping styles on the red carpet, and one fashion trend nobody saw coming.
Several stars showed up wearing gowns that featured birds on them. In the words of Portlandia, they "put a bird on it!"
Beloved actress Meryl Streep, 67, led the trend with a white Valentino dress that had small birds flying all over it.
Watch: Backstage at Meryl Streep's Star-Studded SAG Awards -- Ryan Gosling’s Bow Tie to Viola Davis' #Friendship Goals
Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez, 32, also had some vertebrates adorning her sequin PatBo dress.

But these actresses weren't the only ones to rock the birds look. Westworld's Thandie Newton, 44, stepped out in a Schiaparelli gown that appeared to have a circus-theme, complete with a Ferris wheel and, of course, black birds.

We have a couple videos here from Beat Down Boogie that highlights the cosplay awesomeness that they found at Emerald City Comicon. This is an event that I’ve never been to, but I’ve heard it’s a blast from people who have attended. In the videos below, you’re gonna feast your eyes on some impressive cosplay. No joke, almost everything you will see is top-notch quality stuff!
Emerald City Comicon has been one of the best-kept secrets in cosplay. The costumes are amazing and the Seattle setting is gorgeous. The attendees mostly come from Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver but Eccc is beginning to get attention from beyond the Pacific North West. ReedPOP (promoters of New York Comicon) recently took over Eccc and are expanding its promotion.

Due to an anticipated embarrassment of dramatic riches, NBC has dialed back Grimm's initial order for Season 6, which will now run at least 13 episodes versus the 22 the supernatural drama has served up every season thus far.
As first reported by our sister site Deadline, the move is in part to afford the Peacock network greater flexibility as it plans its fall schedule, seeing as already eight drama series (Grimm included) have been picked up for the 2016-17 TV season, while The Mysteries of Laura...

We're certainly living in quite a different world than we were even eight years ago. The times are ending when folks attending a convention will be able to keep the experience completely to themselves. With today's technology, taking that experience to someone in their living room is now very possible.
According to Slashfilm, Comic-Con International is less than a month away from releasing a subscription service wherein the user will have access to panels at Comic-Con. This service is called Comic-Con HQ.
But just how extensive is this? Will the user be able to check out full panels?
“That is the big question,” Seth Laderman, General Manager of Comic-Con HQ, said.
“The short answer is yes. We’re going to be working with every single studio, every single panel host to be able to take the content and put it on our platform. We’re not going to be live...

This past weekend was Emerald City Comic Con. It’s one of the up-and-coming cons that seems to be getting exponentially bigger and more important to the industry every year. I have yet to have the pleasure and privilege to attend Eccc, but it’s on my bucket list.
Eccc has increased in importance to the point where some major announcements in the comic world are now made there. One of the biggest, if not the biggest, announcement made was from DC Comics. They announced a new DC imprint headed by Gerard Way titled Young Animal. The flagship title of this new imprint will be Doom Patrol; the first issue of which will be hitting the shelves in September of this year. I know he’ll be writing or otherwise involved in all the titles Young Animal is putting out including Shade, The Changing Girl, Cave Carson Has A Cybernetic Eye,...

Judge Dredd will be battling aliens and Predators in a new Dark Horse crossover comic book miniseries called Predator vs Judge Dredd vs Aliens. The comic was announced by writer John Layman (Chew) at Emerald City Comic Con, and the story centers on Judges Dredd and Anderson “on the hunt for a rogue genetic scientist who has gotten his hands on a Xenomorph skull in the hopes of creating his own breed of the deadliest creature in the galaxy.” Of course the Predator comes along to hunt down the Judges and Xenomorph because as you know, the Predator loves a good challenge.
Layman talked about his upcoming project in an interview with io9 and gives a little set up of how Predator vs Judge Dredd vs Aliens begins:
“One of the things I love about Dredd is the sheer kookiness of the world, so I’m embracing it in a big way.

Renewed for a second season last May, the new season will premiere on the PlayStation Network on May 31. If you still need to check out Powers and don't have a PlayStation Network subscription, the pilot is available for free on YouTube and the remaining episodes are available on Crackle. Production values appear to have been increased for the second season which was something many critics highlighted as a negative element of season one. In discussing Powers at the recent Emerald City Comic-Con, comic book creator Brian Michael Bendis stated, "Every aspect of the show has gotten better. The second season will focus on the 'Who Killed Retro Girl?' storyline from the comic and will really open up the world of Powers. Everywhere the show goes will present viewers with something they've never seen on other shows." The man formerly known as Diamond struggles to cope with the death of...

Jon Bernthal recently made an appearance at the Emerald City Comi-Con in Seattle, and considering the fact that he landed the role of The Punisher by sending Marvel an audition tape of him reading scenes with Captain America: Civil War star Tom Holland, it should come as no surprise to learn that the actor was quickly asked about how he sees the youngster faring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "I've got to work with some wonderful people in this business, but as a young man, he is so wise, so genuine," Bernthal said. "He comes from a good family. He's a good, kind, unbelievably hard-working blue collar actor I think he's going to crush it on that part." Will we ever get to see Spider-Man and The Punisher on the big screen together? Here's hoping! Regardless, talk then turned to his favourite scene as Frank Castle in season two of Daredevil,...

Boom! Studios is at the Emerald City Comicon today to announce a new comic called Kong of Skull Island, which will serve as a prequel to the classic film. At first, I thought we were looking at an adaptation or a tie-in to the new film from Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Kong: Skull Island, but this Boom! Studios comic is a totally different thing. James Asmus (All-New Inhumans) is the writer for the limited series, while Carlos Magno is going to be the artist. The first issue will have a number of alternate covers from guys like Eric Powell, Ryan Sook, Paul Pope, Nick Robles, and Felipe Massafera, whose art you can see below. The logline for the series is, “Two fractured and combative civilizations are forced to band together as they venture into Skull Island — their new home.” Setting stories on Skull Island seems like the best way to keep telling Kong stories,...

ReedPOP has done it again. They messed up the Emerald City Comicon. It’s not permanent damage (at least, I hope not), and they’ve taken steps to fix things, but I suspect that they still don’t entirely understand what happened.
I don’t know anyone at ReedPOP, nor do I have a source who clues me in on their inner workings. Everything I say is speculation, nothing more.
Last week saw the release of the first issue of The Discipline from Image Comics by writer Peter Milligan and artist Leandro Fernandez. I have loved Peter Milligan for more than 20 years, and eagerly bought the issue. I’ve read it, don’t entirely understand what’s going on, and look forward to more story.

The Wiz Live! took fans back to Oz and took over Twitter Thursday night.
NBC's live musical featured newcomer Shanice Williams as Dorothy, and despite rave reviews for performance, there was one key component missing from most of the production: Toto! The canine favorite, played by a pair of adorable rescue dogs, appeared in the opening segment (as well as the end), but did not follow Dorothy to Oz – causing plenty of Twitter users to express their concern for the pooch. It's worth noting that in the original Broadway version of The Wiz, Toto did not make the journey to Oz either.

First, Queen Latifah as The Wizard of Oz, then Common as the Bouncer, and finally Stephanie Mills as Auntie Em. While Auntie Em never actually does make it to Oz, since Mills has been a major part in the journey of The Wiz for over 40 years, I think it is safe to say that she is an official Ozian...

After releasing a trailer for the three-hour spectacular that is The Wiz Live!, NBC has released a few promo shots of its stars. Let us pore over them in preparation for the event.Uzo Aduba, playing Glinda, is channeling something between Elizabeth Banks in The Hunger Games and a contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race who's going extra hard to avoid getting kicked off that week. But look at that smile! More like Crazy Smize, am I right? If Queen Latifah (the Wiz) looks angry, it's only because captain James T. Kirk just foiled her plans to capture the Genesis device. This Bluetooth, green suit, Blue Steel pose is not most the ridiculous look Common (playing Bouncer, the Emerald City gatekeeper) has ever tried to rock. It is, however, the most like "Keegan-Michael Key playing Common" that Common has ever looked. The cast of The Wiz Live! also includes Mary J. Blige,...

Maybe we can blame the Seattle Seahawks' offense, as everyone else is for everything else? Regardless, the Emerald City crew's 39-32 loss to the Arizona Cardinals last night in Seattle was not a winner for them or Sunday Night Football. With a 12.6/21 metered market result, the NBC and NFL show saw a 14% drop from last week's Philadelphia Eagles victory over the Dallas Cowboys. While up 14% over the comparable week of the 2014-15 season, last night's Snf hit a season low…...

The world of TV has never been so crowded and, at the same time, geeks have never had it so good. As saturated as the big screen is with superhero films and sprawling shared universes, that mentality has well and truly bled onto the small screen too.
