enjoyable and worth a look but could have been better

I served in Operation Desert Storm with the National Guard and I am prouder of this then anything else that I have done in my entire life. I remember the euphoria of patriotism and good feeling that swept our country after the wars end. I remember the kind support and the great big Welcome Home that we all got and I am so greatful and I will be until my dying day. This film looks like it was very quickly slapped together. It is as if they wanted to get it out as soon as possible to cash in. I enjoyed it but it could have been a lot better. So many of the characters in this film are cliched that it is almost laughable if you forget its meant to be serious. There have been only two other Hollywood features that have dealt with the Persian Gulf War, they are Courage Under Fire and Three Kings. I hope that someday they will make a good, first-class Hollywood production that will do justice to myself and all of my fellow veterans who went over there and did their best.

Not Very Good

I actually worked on this movie in the production office and it was hurried and just not very good. As the two media critics mentioned in their reviews, this movie was made in a rush to capitalize on the war effort. I remember that the script was constantly being updated to make it seem more dramatic than the actual events were. The whole project felt forced to me at the time. Save the 90 minutes for something else and pass on this one.

Warning: Spoilers
As bad as I feel this film was, it will always be considered special (to me) for the time spent with fellow Marines and Sailors who served as extras with me on location in 29 Palms (California).

The film clearly was trying to establish issues that needed to be overcome by the "Heroes" yet it seemed to lose focus while establishing the characters. Perhaps it was the hurried production (and low budget) that could be the blame for the lackluster result.

Regardless of how one feels about this film, it should be remembered that many events (and some actual scenes) came from the real Desert Storm along with a number of the extras who were also "Heroes" of the war.
