When I was growing up one of my favorite games to play at the arcade with my friends was the classic Konami 1989 four-player Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game! That and The Simpson's game were the two games where we could all play together and I remember pumping in quarter after quarter to keep the entertainment going!
For those of you who also have fond memories of playing this game, you might be excited to learn that arcade cabinet maker Raw Thrills is currently developing a new Tmnt arcade game! Only this time, it will be based on the current Nickelodeon cartoon. Regardless of that, it's still pretty cool that they are tapping into the nostalgia of those of us who enjoyed playing the original game when we were kids.

Released at the height of the straight to video techno-horror phase that rode in on the coat-tails of The Lawnmower Man and also saw the release of films such as Evolver and Brainscan, Arcade was, I think, unfairly overlooked, at least in the UK, at the time due to poor distribution, a lack of big-name stars (unlike Brainscan which had a post-T2 Edward Furlong, the biggest stars in Arcade were A Christmas Story’s Peter Billingsley and St:tng’s John De Lancie), and effects that – even though they were apparently redone after the film was completed – did not compare to other CGI-heavy films at the time.

Two of my favourite Full Moon flicks, Dollman and Demonic Toys, have been given the Blu-ray treatment by the folks at 88 Films. Already owning the pair on DVD we take a look at these new releases to see how they compare and if the new Blus are worthy of an upgrade…
Dollman
Stars: Tim Thomerson, Jackie Earle Haley, Kamala Lopez, Humberto Ortiz, Nicholas Guest, Judd Omen, Frank Collison | Written by Chris Roghair | Directed by Albert Pyun
Former funnyman, turned TV stalwart, turned action star, Tim Thomerson had already made a name for himself in the Empire Pictures/Full Moon franchise Trancers before spoofing the very same character and his take no crap persona in Dollman for one of my favourite directors, Albert Pyun.
Brick Bardo (Thomerson) is a traveller from outer space who is forced to land on Earth. Though regular sized on his home planet, he is doll-sized here on Earth,...

Every day now as I arrive back at Northwood train station from my day job, it sits there staring me in the face. Big, blue, empty and sad, the shell of Blockbuster Video whose bones have been picked clean by bargain hunters over the last month and whose dead carcass now sits there as an eyesore on the high street, waiting to become a major chain opticians in January. Situated right next door to another locally owned smaller opticians, ironic really considering what Blockbuster did to the locally owned video stores I grew up with.
The signs were there for years really, the end was coming fast and was in the air even before the big financial crash of 2008. Blockbuster died in a manner that is still threatening HMV who somehow weathered the storm and barely made it out, the market has changed and the old guard represented by physical...

Earlier today (Aug 19th) one of my all-time favourite directors, Albert Pyun, announced via his Facebook and Twitter pages that he would be stepping away from movie-making and all that it ensues, due to health reasons… He’s since expanded on the problems with his health in a further post on his Facebook page, that I urge everyone whose ever enjoyed an Albert Pyun movie to read.
Hi Everyone – sadly I’m going to have to shutdown my facebook and other movie related efforts including Director’s cuts attending film festivals and screenings due to my health issue. I have to take the time to address this condition as its a long term but not life threatening. I’ve had some heart issues but through Cynthia, that was being stabilized and in control. From Wednesday 4th September till Sunday 8th September, the 8th annual B-movie, Underground and Trash Film Festival (Butff) will once again be held in the city centre of Breda in the Netherlands.Butff is a small and intimate, but unique international film festival. Not only is the festival a paradise for B-movie trash and underground movie lovers from around the world, it also provides a diverse line-up of unique acts and performances by musicians, poets, artists and other performers. You won’t find a festival similar to Butff anywhere else in Europe.
This year the theme is Evilution – crazy doctors, poisonous garbage dumps and radioactive radiation can produce the most gruesome creatures – featuring movies in which filmmakers will show you their wildest ideas. Butff also venture into the wonderful world of the smaller creatures on earth with a lecture and film about insects.

Blood, guts and controversy abound, as we delve back to look at the evolving gore and mayhem in a dozen 80s videogames...
Ah, the 80s. The decade of video nasties, The A-Team, Boy George and Ronald Reagan. A time of conspicuous consumption and voluminous hair, the 80s was also the decade where videogames rapidly evolved, from the blocky 8-bit computers and consoles at its beginning, to the more powerful 16-bit systems at its end.
The 80s was also a period where the depiction of videogame gore would be realised with ever greater detail - much to the consternation of media watchdogs, who commonly regarded games as bleepy toys for children. The mainstream furore which would greet Mortal Kombat was still just over the horizon, but from the start of the start of the decade to its end, mischievous (and sometimes cynical, it has...

What do you get when producer Charles Band, writer David S. Goyer, and director Albert Pyun decide to do their own horror version of Tron? If you didn’t answer Arcade, then you clearly do not know your Full Movie catalogue.
1993’s Arcade starred grown-up A Christmas Story star Peter Billingsley, Full Moon cutie Megan Ward, and future “Robot Chicken” mastermind Seth Green as teens fighting for their mortal souls after being sucked into a sinister video game created by “Star Trek: The Next Generation” troublemaker John de Lancie.
I distinctly remember Arcade being regularly advertised during Video Zone segments at the end of numerous Full Moon releases of the time and being frustrated because its release was constantly being delayed, reportedly, due to dissatisfaction with the computer effects. I even more distinctly remember watching the movie when it finally came out and... Let’s just say I’ve always...

This past weekend saw Marvel reveal “Phase 2″ of their film line-up at the San Diego Comic Con so I thought what better film to pick for today’s Movie of the Day than a movie based on a Marvel character. Only this film is one of the most vilified, yet at the same time celebrated, of the early Marvel movies, Captain America.
I know what you’re thinking “Hang on, Captain America only came out last year”. Well yes, That Captain America movie came out last year, but there have been numerous other Captain America films released over the years – a Republic serial, two TV movies in the 70s starring Reb Brown and the movie that is my pick for Movie of the Day, 1990′s Captain America.

Director Albert Pyun, whose ouvre includes such films as The Sword and the Sorceror, Knights, Arcade, Kickboxer 4 and the forthcoming Tales of an Ancient Empire, is currently in the process of re-editing his smash hit cyberpunk movie Nemesis to create what he is calling his “directors cut”, which will apparently have a new opening – featuring Megan Ward, with whom Pyun worked with on Arcade – and an ending which ties more closely in the sequel which was released some three years later.
Says Pyun on his official Facebook page:
Work has started on re-mastering Nemesis into a version closer to what I had intended. Version 2.0 will be different in many ways including story plot line and the backstory on Alex Rain. It will have an entirely different opening scene and an ending closer to what I had intended. It links more smoothly into Nemesis 2. This will be ready possibly by the end of January for shipping.

Nobody gets kicked around like Albert Pyun. The funny thing is, nobody takes in stride quite as well either. In what little correspondence I've had with the approachable director, he's always told me to be honest and give it to him straight. That he can take (and has heard worse than) any criticism I can throw at him and still have a constructive and interesting dialog about his movies. Go back through the Qe archives for proof. Whenever I reviewed a classic piece of Albert Pyun apocalypse trash, he was always there to leave a comment and explain his method, his madness and admit that his work hasn't always lived up to his unique visions (See my Knights review and Omega Doom review). Granted his subject matter usually tends towards tough-talkin' broads and cyborg apocalypses,...

Roswell, N.M. - The aliens have returned! Maybe not returned so much as finally arrived on home video with the release of Dark Skies: The Declassified Complete Series on DVD. Startling enough, the show only lasted a season on NBC in 1996. It gained a large cult with an alternative history of America in the ’60s. “History as we know it is a lie” was the startling series slogan. John Loengard (Eric Close) went from plucky congressional aide to a member of the ultra creepy Majestic 12 run by Frank Bach (J.T. Walsh) to battle the alien menace. An equally bizarre transformation happens to his girlfriend, Kimberly Sayers (Megan Ward). She gets alien abducted and returned. The perky perfect sixties gal goes to dark side. Can he bring her back?

Full Moon Entertainment is the company behind such horror films as Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, Arcade, Shrunken Heads, Shadowzone, Evil Bong, Voodoo Academy, etc. This past year with the release of Puppet Master: Axis of Evil, Demonic Toys 2, and director John Lechago's Killjoy 3, Full Moon Entertainment has gotten back to what made them a success to begin with. With the recent announcement of Evil Bong 3-D, Full Moon Entertainment seems due for a resurrgence after years of struggling. So what does this all have to do with one Mr. John Lechago? Well you see, like Full Moon Entertainment, Mr. Lechago seems to have his career back on track like the company that he has worked for. Killjoy 3 cemented that Full Moon Entertainment is moving in the right direction and so it appears that Mr. Lechago is heading in the right direction as well. Killjoy 3 was...

It sounds kind of demented to say that I grew up on the movies produced by Full Moon Entertainment, but it’s the Gods’ honest truth. Whenever my parents made a trip to the video store, I always managed to persuaded them into renting something the company had released, whether it be a title from the “Trancers” series or a stand-alone endeavor along the lines of “Arcade” or “Shrunken Heads”. Charles Band’s “Puppet Master” series, however, was my favorite, despite the fact that everyone made fun of me for liking them so much. In fact, I’ve yet to meet anyone who adores the series as much as I do, though I’d like to think they’re out there somewhere, beneath the pale moonlight. But, I digress. The trailer for “Puppet Master: Axis of Evil” has arrived, and, from the looks of things, the newest apple hasn’t...

When the combined star power of Couples Retreat rolls over the box office this week, what's also taking place is the second act of an American life. While the film's stars, producers and writers are indelibly Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau (enthusiastically abetted by Kristen Bell, Jason Bateman, Malin Akerman and others), the man behind the camera is Peter Billingsley, best known to America as Ralphie Parker from 1983's A Christmas Story -- which in the quarter-century since its release has become the definitive yuletide classic.
That Billingsley has called the shots on such an A-list project as Couples Retreat comes down to his ability to transcend a childhood spent as a star and his enduring friendship with the film's drawcards. But an important factor is also Billingsley's barely known sci-fi horror film from 1993.
