Interesting treatment of two women searching for happiness
tallard10 November 2007
« Deux Actrices » is a dual composition, on one hand, Pascale and Pascale, figuring out, in a production setting, the best way to portray Solange and Fabienne, two separated sisters with very different outlooks on life. Fabienne is a wanderer, with painful childhood memories. Solange has no dreams and has resigned herself to a job in a daycare leading to nowhere. Fabienne knocks on Solange's door one day and proceeds to move in, Solange doesn't have the heart to ask her to leave. Ten years separate them and their mother has kept mute all this time. Fabienne pushes all Solange's buttons, it's her undoing and she causes strife in Solange's life. Pascale and Pascale the actresses try and work out the intricacies of each other's personalities and motivations.

I watched this movie 1:28 min, as a double feature DVD with full length « Le piège d'Issudun », both films delve into the hearts of women in a search for that basic drive, that essence of life motivating motherhood and abandonment of motherhood. They attempt to explore the consequences of conformity on the role of women in modern society. Overall both movies are very worth seeing but are certainly no joy ride. The cinematography is excellent as is the editing, acting and script.
