On dear! Not even a hundred votes nor 1 review to it's name. And it's been floatin' around for nearly 20 years? Well I thought I would try and let people know that this is a good solid drama and well worth anyone's time seeing.:2: I've usually found that dramas centred around people with(usually teenage girls) some terminal illness are really depressing. They can be very moving, yes, but again in a very sad way. And I don't like to feel all depressed when I'm watching movies.(got enough of that in real life!) You see 1 or 2 and they all become the same and when a new 1 comes along you can think; urgh, no way I'm going through all THAT again! On the other hand, the subject of cancer or whatever, is pretty sad, so one can't complain too much. However, nothing about this particular movie was as I would have normally expected. It was much more complex and moving in various ways than I ever expected it to be.:3: I thought Teresa Dispina was really good as the leukaemia suffering Anissa. She played it differently to what I've seen that type of character portrayed like before. I've seen dramas like this where the afflicted kept on living their life to the bitter end, but in this one the girl frequently got really depressed and stubbornly isolated herself. Her attitude was often very negative too. That seemed different to me. At the end her character gives this really moving and hopeful speech at this pep rally gig, and the movie ends. It says that the real Anissa was later married and her baby sister was a flower girl at her wedding. Awww!:4: I thought Priscilla Lopez was great as Anissa's mother. I felt the she had the strongest presence in the movie. Her performance was very moving as a desperate mother willing to do anything to save her daughter's life...:5: The plot at first is not anything anyone who has seen true movies like these hasn't heard before. A girl gets a terminal disease, her parents need to transplant something into her to save her, they struggle, they eventually either save her or they don't. Where it differs is when her parents decide to take the desperate measure of conceiving another child to provide a compatible bone marrow donor, which is very different I thought for a movie like this, and I guess a tad controversial. It's taken off a true story, so apparently a lot of people thought so. The media gets wind of what they plan to do and the resulting backlash disrupts their lives somewhat. The middle-aged couple actually succeed in having a baby. (bleh!)A year later Anissa finally undergoes the procedure and lives!:6: This movie, while not in my opinion being fantastically amazingly great, is not at all boring. I was not clock watching. It was (Semi)gripping, moving, in stops and starts. You do feel the pain and all the drama. You also feel the love joy and humour at certain moments. The many twists and emotional turns make it more than the average TV drama, and in fact something quite special. For me it is not quite up there, but is is very different and worth anyone's time.
