On some overseas movie posters (including the UK cinema and VHS cover) Matthew Broderick's beard was photo-shopped off. A possible reason was that it being a fairly minor release, distributors wanted to sell the film on Broderick's more familiar look.
The film was shot in actual New York locations around Greenwich Village. Brian's apartment building (The Lion's Den) is located in the East Village and is the exact same block where Addicted to Love (1997), which also starred Matthew Broderick, would film.
The original choices for the three leads of the film were Tim Robbins as Sam, Laura San Giacomo as Ellen, and Harry Connick Jr. as Brian.
Annabella Sciorra would go on to star on the hit series, Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001) with Chris Noth as team number two on the series behind the show's original stars, Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe for two seasons due to D'Onofrio's personal health issues due to overwork. The series was executive produced by Warren Leight, the writer and director of this film.
The schedule set up by Brian's Secretary for the use of the "Lion's Den" was for the following days:
Monday: Sam Tuesday: Ellen Wednesday: Brian Thursday: Ellen Friday: Brian Saturday: Sam
