Plot Summary

Henry Hackett is the editor of a New York City tabloid. He is a workaholic who loves his job, but the long hours and low pay are leading to discontent. Also, publisher Bernie White faces financial straits, and has hatchetman Alicia Clark, Henry's nemesis, impose unpopular cutbacks. Henry's wife Martha, a hugely pregnant former reporter of his, is fed up because he has so little time for his family. He is therefore considering an offer from Paul Bladden to edit a paper like the New York Times, which would mean more money, shorter hours, more respectability...but might also be a bit boring for his tastes. But a hot story soon confronts Henry with tough decisions. Written by Reid Gagle

Goofs When Henry tries to "Stop the presses," they have to find "Chuck" to unlock the stop button... this is totally wrong; on presses like this, there are stop buttons everywhere, and ANYONE can stop the press (although they'd better have a good reason for doing so)... what if someone were caught in the press, they're going to take 10 minutes to find the guy with the key to unlock the stop button? No way... See more »

Quotes Henry: I realize this doesn't exactly get us off on the right foot.
Paul Bladden, New York Sentinel: The right foot, are you out of your mind? The offer is rescinded. How stupid do you think we are? What do you think I get when I put two and two together? Three? Three and a half?
Henry: Look, I'm trying to be reasonable here, and just let me...
Paul Bladden, New York Sentinel: Why don't you just take my wallet as well?
Henry: Let me talk. Let me say something, wait a m...
Paul Bladden, New York Sentinel: Well, I hope you're satisfied, asshole! You just blew your chance to cover the world!
Henry: Really? Well guess fucking what? I don't really fucking care. You wanna know fucking why? Because I don't fucking live in the fucking world! I live in fucking New York City! So go fuck yourself!
[Henry slams down telephone back on the receiver]
Janet, Henry's Secretary: You handled that well.
Henry: Thank you.
