Screenwriter Mark L Smith has revealed details of the violent, sweary script he penned in collaboration with Tarantino for Captain Kirk and co – and explained why it probably won’t get made
Not so long ago, the idea of Quentin Tarantino making a Star Trek movie seemed as far out as a tribble one day captaining the starship Enterprise. Perhaps that’s why Qt shelved his long-mooted “R-rated”, ultra-violent take on the Apollo-era optimism of Gene Roddenberry – or perhaps he just figured he had other projects worth prioritising.
Back in 2017, Tarantino publicly pitched the idea of a feature-length riff on the 1968 original series episode A Piece of the Action, which is set on an Earth-like planet where a 1930s gangster culture prevails. At the time, the space saga was in mainstream blockbuster mode on the big screen, thanks to the series of JJ Abrams-produced films, and was just beginning...

Timothy Olyphant is currently revisiting his beloved role as Raylan Givens in “Justified: City Primeval,” but he recently took a trip down memory lane to reflect on an iconic character that he missed out on playing.
In a new appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Olyphant revealed that he auditioned for the role of Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” trilogy — and may well have landed it if Chris Pine hadn’t been around.
“Here’s what I can tell you about ‘Star Trek’: I went in and auditioned not for Captain Kirk, but I remember reading with J.J. Abrams and he’s just a lovely, lovely guy. And just a lovely, lovely audition process,” Olyphant said. “Somewhere in there, I was auditioning for Doc, he’s like, ‘I already got a guy for Doc, so I don’t need you for that, but I don’t have a Kirk.

This Star Trek: Strange New Worlds review contains spoilers.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 8
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has delighted in subverting our expectations about what a sci-fi adventure series like this is supposed to be and do, embracing wild shifts in tone, genre, and format from week to week and telling what should be familiar stories in fresh new ways. Season 2 has featured episodes that range from a courtroom drama (“Ad Astra Per Aspera”) to a trip into an alternate past (“Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow”), a relationship comedy (“Charades”), and a heartfelt and hilarious crossover with a Star Trek animated series (“Those Old Scientists”).
Granted, “Under the Cloak of War” does make for a particularly jarring tonal shift after the Strange New Worlds meets Lower Decks episode. This installment is…well, it’s pretty darn dark, especially for a show that generally tries so valiantly...

When you think of James Tiberius Kirk, Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, what words come to mind? Heroic? Brash? Romantic? All of those words apply, thanks to decades’ worth of performances by William Shatner and the younger version Chris Pine played in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek films. With Strange New Worlds season 2, we’ll get yet another take on Kirk, this one courtesy of Paul Wesley. We got a hint of Wesley’s Kirk in the season one finale of Strange New Worlds, but that was from an alternate reality where he never became Captain of the Enterprise.
In a recent press junket (via Trek Movie), Wesley gave a few more details about how his younger Kirk will differ from not only the man he played in season one, but also the Shatner and Pine Kirks we all know so well.

Gilmore Girls was one of Chad Michael Murray’s first acting roles. Murray played Tristin Dugray, who dated both Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) and Paris Geller (Liza Weil), two Gilmore Girls regulars. Tristin would depart when Murray moved on to Dawson’s Creek, but he still remembers feeling out of his depth with Weil.

Murray was a guest on Scott Patterson’s I Am All In podcast on Dec. 14, 2021 to discuss his time on Gilmore Girls. When Patterson asked him about working with Weil, Murray admitted he felt intimidated.

Gerald Fried, the Oscar-nominated composer known for scoring the original Star Trek series and Roots, has died at the age of 95.
Fried died on Friday, February 17th, of pneumonia, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The New York City native scored a number of early Star Trek episodes beginning in 1966. Most notably, he composed the music for the season two episode “Amok Time,” which soundtracked the battle between William Shatner’s Kirk and Leonard Nimoy’s Spock. The music from “Amok Time” was featured on several subsequent episodes of Star Trek, as well as on The Simpsons and Futurama and in the movie The Cable Guy.
In 1977, after original composer Quincy Jones suffered from writers block, Fried was brought on to compose music for the ABC miniseries Roots. He ended up composing the theme song, as well as the underscores for several episodes. For his efforts, Fried was awarded a Primetime Emmy Award.

Thursday night Carol Burnett made her way over to greet this year’s recipient, Martin Scorsese, his “The Irishman” star Al Pacino, who gave a rousing speech including an extraordinary riff on the drumming of Buddy Rich — yes, he was comparing the jazz legend to the Maestro — and Scorsese muse and alter-ego Leonardo DiCaprio, who sat between Scorsese and his father George (who bears a striking resemblance to Pacino).
“As an actor you feel safe,” said Pacino of Scorsese. “He is so easy to trust because he is in control of his craft. He sets the stage for you, like a tightrope walker. Marty is a net.

How does Star Trek: Discovery relate to the other Star Trek shows and movies? We unravel the history of the future to make it clear.

The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has announced the nominations for the 35th annual Razzie Awards. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Legend of Hercules, and Transformers 4: Age of Ex-stink-Tion are leading the nominations for worst movies of the year. The only name I don't think belongs on this list of nominations is Mel Gibson for his role in The Expendables 3, because he was freakin' awesome in that!
You can check out the full announcement below, followed by the nominations list. Look it over and let us know if you agree with what they claim is the worst of 2014.
Hollywood was not happy with box office returns for 2014, their lowest-grossing year in recent history. Despite a handful of high-grossing hits, there were way more major misses — movies based on recycled premises and re-worked concepts that were already tired a decade or more ago, the cinematic equivalent of re-treaded tires.

The faith-based "Saving Christmas" stars Kirk Cameron and Darren Doane in which the pair play brothers-in-law with Kirk's character showcasing to Doane's that various popular elements of Christmas are actually Biblical.
Cameron's film did not go well with critics, garnering a rare 0% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 18/100 on Metacritic - to be fair to Cameron, the woeful Ben Affleck comedy "Surviving Christmas" several years ago didn't score much better.

Looks like somebody needs to save Kirk instead! Kirk Cameron's new holiday movie Saving Christmas has been rated the worst movie ever, according to IMDb's user-rated Bottom 100 chart. Have you ever wondered what A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas might look like if Pax (now Ion) TV remade it? Well, wonder no more thanks to Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas. The trailer for this limited release "comedy" can be watched below, and it plays like the raunchy holiday laffer minus the drug use, cursing, violence, sex, and debauched child star Neil Patrick Harris. Instead, you get child star turned evangelist Kirk Cameron, saving Christmas. Fandango drew our attention to this soon-to-open Christmas movie, and the title has us asking, is it Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas like Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas? Or is it like Kirk Cameron Is Saving Christmas? Really it may be both, as it's not just a movie fronted by the former star of Growing Pains, but also one in which he plays a character named Kirk. Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas takes on...

Conner Habib reviews Unstoppable, Cher doesn’t hate Madonna, Jason Collins throws out first pitch for Dodgers
Our NewNowNext SexPert Conner Habib is writing for Vice now, and in his first column he reviews the Kirk Cameron movie Unstoppable, where Kirk whines about how Hollywood is trying to silence Christians. It’s a funny read, and Conner stresses he has no problem with faith, just how faith is presented here, which he sums up as “Unstoppable is the full frontal display of an egomaniac who has somehow found his way into a position of power.”
Guido Barilla is apologizing again for the comments he made about gay families. I know he’s mostly just in damage control, as his rivals have taken the opportunity to shout their support for gay families and the world is calling for a boycott, but he’s taking the standard steps that GLAAD proscribes for foot in mouth syndrome.

Kirk Cameron's evangelical-themed film, "Unstoppable," faced some ungodly obstacles when it was banned from both Facebook and YouTube recently.
On July 18, Cameron took to his Facebook page to alert fans that links to the website for "Unstoppable" had been blocked by the social network for allegedly being "abusive," "unsafe" and "spammy." The following day, he announced YouTube had done the same and had blocked the "Unstoppable" trailer because it was considered "spam," a "scam" and "deceptive."
"This is my most personal film about faith, hope and love, and about why God allows bad things to happen to good people. What is 'abusive' or 'unsafe' about that?!" he wrote. "Please help us encourage Facebook to unblock our website soon by sharing this post with your friends so more people can see this transparent, faith-building project."

Kirk Cameron's 'Unstoppable' - Trailer from Kirk Cameron on Vimeo.
There was a dust-up last week because the trailer for Kirk Cameron's evangelical film, "Unstoppable," was banned on Facebook and YouTube. But Cameron's fans rallied to get the ban lifted on Facebook, which the social media site says was just a mix-up in the first place.
"From what we can tell, the address purchased for the movie was previously being used as a spam site and it hadn't been refreshed in our system yet," Michael Kirkland, communications manager for Facebook, tells the Christian Post. "We were in direct contact with Kirk's team on this and reversed the block as soon as we confirmed that the address was no longer being used for spam."

An evangelical university famous for its conservative ideology is partnering up with a similarly controversial activist to create a new religious film.
Liberty University, founded in 1971 by televangelist Jerry Falwell, will team with former child star-turned-Christian activist Kirk Cameron to produce the 90-minute film, slated for release later this year. Cameron said the film will answer questions about why God lets bad things happen. The partnership was announced last week during Christin television program "Praise the Lord,” which airs on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.
Liberty's Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said on the program that Cameron is the "example of the type of graduate that Liberty is trying to turn out" and praised Cameron for "using your profession to impact the culture, and that’s what we’re trying to do in every profession.”
“So that’s why we decided to partner with you on your newest project," Falwell Jr. went on to explain.

Tgif, ABC's storied, family-friendly block of Friday night programming, gave us harmless TV that some would argue has amounted to classic programming: Full House, Perfect Strangers, Hangin' With Mr. Cooper and Sister, Sister all originated in that Friday block, which ran from 1988-2000 (with a resurgence from 2003-5). When I heard that ABC was revamping Boy Meets World in a spinoff series called Girl Meets World, where onetime teens Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) raise their titular teen daughter together, I vroomed my motorcycle in approval like Jonathan Turner. Still, this raised a question: What other Tgif classics deserve a spinoff series?
Here are five options I'd be most psyched to see. Cross your fingers for a Patrick Duffy cameo.

Let me repeat that: Nicolas Cage to star in reboot of Left Behind trilogy. That is to say, Nicolas Cage will star in a movie version of the Apocalyptic Christian-themed books about the survivors on earth following – ahem – the Rapture. Oh. My. God. Literally.
The initial report of the upcoming Cage-tastrophe comes from The Playlist, though I actually had to check several sites before I was convinced that it was not some elaborate Onion joke. But it seems to be true. Cage will indeed be starring in a reboot of the Left Behind trilogy, which has once before been made into films starring – who else? – Kirk Cameron. Does this mean that Kirk and Cage will be teaming up? Please, God, let it be so.
The Left Behind reboot will be produced by Cloud Ten Pictures, the folks responsible for the first series, with Paul Lalonde back as writer and producer.

Kirk Cameron says that speaking the "truth" about gays is "love speech." Some of his past truths have included calling homosexuality “destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization" and calliing gays "unnatural." Now he says “The truth is always love speech, it’s not hate speech. The truth, communicated with compassion, with the desire to see people in a right relationship with God, helped, and healed, and whole, is the most genuine form of love speech you can give to anyone.” Hey Kirk – kids are dying from love over here.

Duggar parents Michelle and Jim Bob catch up with their fellow conservative Christian Kirk Cameron to chat about their family's own "growing pains" on the Sept. 4 episode of 19 Kids And Counting. Kirk and the couple grab a bite at Washington D.C.'s famous Ben's Chili Bowl. One fan is so excited to meet the Duggar folks, she hands her camera to Kirk to take the photo not realizing who he even is. Ouch, that's embarrassing. A helpful hint from Jim Bob helps the woman place Kirk, and the Growing Pains star is such a good sport, there's no hurt feelings. Be sure to watch, Hollywoodlifers, to see what else the '90s teen heartthrob has in store for the Duggars. The episode airs Tuesday,...
