When Nukus defeats the BeetleBorgs, only their civilian powers remain. Art Fortunes tells Nukus about his brother, Les, an evil cartoonist who is locked away in Charterville Prison. Nukus heads for the prison while the kids try to stop the frozen Flabber from melting away by reading spells from Flabber's handbook. But instead, they end up turning themselves into bugs and discover that they can transform into bugs whenever they want.

The BeetleBorgs retreat from the Worm Tank only to encounter Nukus, Horribelle and Vilor, so they transform into bugs to escape. At Hillhurst, Flabber whips the monsters into shape, but Horribelle manages to invade Hillhurst and kidnap Art. The kids buzz into the studio and rescue Art just in time for him to draw a new Beetle Battle Station and defense vehicles so the kids can beat the Worm Tanks.

Nukus releases Les Fortunes' latest creation, Hagfish of Gar, a fish-like creature. Forewarned by Wolfie's keen hearing and Fangula's knowledge of the ancient myth, the kids have Art create Sector Cycles. The cycles provide the kids with the advantage they need to save themselves and all the children of Charterville from the evil clutches of the Crustaceans.

Nukus has Les create Chameleon Monster to capture Flabber and steal the power of the BeetleBorgs. Chameleon appears at Hillhurst as Flabber, and traps the real phasm inside a bottle. The kids transform into bugs to watch Chameleon Monster morph back into his evil self. When Chameleon tries to make his escape, the kids transform and send him back into the comics, then rush to release Flabber from the bottle.

Flabber and the House Monsters turn Hillhurst into "The Horror Hotel" to raise money for renovations. Hotel guests including zombies, a swamp creature and a witch doctor mistake the kids for complimentary snacks and chase them into hiding. Meanwhile, Nukus and Horribelle send over their own horrible hotel guest, Botanicus, whose identity is quickly disclosed. A devious Little Ghoul heists all the guests shoes to make Stinky Shoe Soup for everyone at Hillhurst.

Nukus is angry when publisher Rudy McDougal refuses to devote a comic book to his new Brain Sucker monster, and gets even by releasing him in Charterville. Even the resident monsters are afraid - except for Frankenbeans, who doesn't have a brain. Rudy, whose brain has been sucked dry, agrees to publish Brain Sucker Comics in place of BeetleBorgs Metallix! When the Borgs catch the monster at the dam and hurl him into space, everybody gets their brains back!

When Little Ghoul's uncle, The Grim Reaper, comes to town, she tells everyone that Reaper is retiring and needs a replacement. Every monster in town is vying for the prestigious position, including Nukus, who tries (unsuccessfully) to eliminate the competition by having Les create The Monster Smasher. But it turns out that Little Ghoul lied - Reaper is simply looking for a servant! When he proudly offers the position to Flabber, the disappointed phasm politely declines.

After a huge lunch the monsters at Hillhurst fall asleep,but are rudely awakened by a raven,which announces the arrival of the famous writer Edgar Alan Poe. Poe's presence at Hillhurst is followed by a series of weird events, in which nothing is as it seems to be. Meanwhile, Nukus has Les draw up the Mole Monster to steal Edgar's latest book.

When RoboBorg is approached by the kids for advice on how to better manage their battles, he tells them that they have the power to turn their bikes into Mega Sector Spectra Cycles! Nukus overhears them and has Les create a machine to turn him into Mega Nukus - more evil than ever! Fangula predicts a big battle will happen soon, and that Nukus will reign victorious. When Nukus and Vilor attack and steal the Mega Cycles, the Borgs wonder if Fangula was right!
