One of the Best Movies About Children
sleepsev24 April 2001
This is my most favourite coming-of-age movie and my most favourite Canadian movie so far. The story is about the relationship between a boy and his mother. But "what" this movie is all about might not matter much here, because what impresses me the most about "Sous-sol" is "how" it represents its theme. There are many stunning scenes in this movie. I couldn't help feeling very frightened and scared while I was watching it. This powerful and intense movie makes me feel like I know there is a bomb in the building which is going to explode any time soon, but I can't guess at all when it will explode. I can't think of any other movies about children which can give me a great moment of suspense like this one. Though this movie might not be classified as a psychological thriller, for me, this is the best psychological thriller in "emotional" sense of the words. Moreover, because of the ending scene, "Sous-sol" is much more than just the best psychological thriller. When I left the cinema, I felf so uplifted. Though I never did anything like what the boy did in this movie, somehow I feel as if the director has touched and caressed my heart by making this film.
