Taylor Swift and Katy Perry are two of the biggest pop stars (and, equally important, cat lovers) in the world, which means a lot of people have a lot of thoughts on their lives. A popular fan theory is that the two have been embroiled in a long-running feud, but most of the supposed drama has really played out through elusive quotes in magazine profiles and subtweets that don’t really say anything at all – until now.
In October, both Perry and Swift attended Drake’s birthday party, with no drama to report. Yet a few days later at a Kanye West concert,...

Chris Hemsworth went from unknown to Hollywood leading man seemingly overnight.
Like many other Australian stars, the actor got his start on a soap opera "Home and Away." But 171 episodes later -- and after a stint on "Dancing With the Stars Australia" -- Hemsworth ended up stateside, waiting for his big break. It didn't take long. Two years after his U.S. debut, Hemsworth won the titular role in "Thor" (2011) and hasn't looked back since. This month, he takes aim in Michael Mann's thriller "Blackhat."
From his days in the Outback to his iconic U.S. debut, here are 23 things you probably don't know about Chris Hemsworth.
1. Chris Hemsworth was born August 11, 1983 in Melbourne, Australia to Leonie and Craig Hemsworth.
2. His mother is an English teacher, while his father is a social-services counselor.
3. Growing up, Hemsworth split his time in Melbourne and the Australian Outback in the Northern Territory,...

The year was 1999 and the world was finally introduced to a budding young star from Australia, William Shakespeare’s modern muse, the most adorkable romantic lead, and an ageless beauty. With the debut of 10 Things I Hate About You, Hollywood welcomed a new crop of stars. Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gabrielle Union were among the notable names to get started in the big screen, modern adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Fifteen years later, members of the cast, including David Krumhotlz and Allison Janney revisit memories from the set.
1. Heath Ledger beat out Ashton Kutcher and Josh Hartnett for the role of Patrick. Ledger’s first major American film role almost went Hartnett, who was just coming off The Faculty and Halloween H20. Meanwhile, Kutcher landed the role of Michael Kelso on That ’70s Show.
2. Ledger missed the film’s first table read.

Here's abstew with a tribute to an actor we lost too soon.
Today, April 4th, 2014, would have been Oscar winner Heath Ledger's 35th Birthday. Tragically, the talented young actor's career was all too brief. (It's crazy to think that 2 of the 5 Best Actor nominees from 2005 are no longer with us.) But let's not dwell on the sadness, but celebrate the life and work of this amazing Aussie.
This past week marked the 15th anniversary of the film that brought Heath to movie-goers' attention, 10 Things I Hate About You. (No, the Fox show Roar does not count as his breakthrough. Even though it co-starred TV's Felicity and I do actually remember watching it.)
At the time, 10 Things seemed like just another late 90s teen movie based on a Shakespeare play. (You'd be surprised how much that was a thing back then. And they all starred Julia Stiles.) But there was...

Would we have had Mutant Enemy or Bad Robot without Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert's Renaissance Pictures? David thinks not...
After 1992's Army Of Darkness, another Sam Raimi feature film wouldn't emerge in theatres for another three years. What Raimi did with the time in between is anybody's guess - perhaps he wandered the world; maybe he dug through a peculiar collection of Spider-Man comics with most of the dialogue cut out. But what he certainly did with his Renaissance Pictures partners was bring to light a new frontier of genre TV (cue heroic music and a narrator saying, "This is the story of a time long ago – a time of myth and legend. When the ancient gods were petty and cruel, and they plagued mankind with suffering, only one man dared to challenge their power...")

She got her start on television in shows like "Roar" with Heath Ledger and the "Touching Evil" remake with Jeffrey 'Burn Notice' Donovan, now Vera Farmiga is coming back to the small screen for A&E's "Bates Motel" says The Live Feed.
Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 classic "Psycho", the show is described as a contemporary exploration of Norman Bates' formative years and will explore his relationship with his mother Norma.
Farmiga will play Norma, described as "a complicated, passionate and compelling woman who is smart, multidimensional and always capable of surprising people". It's expected to be a more layered and grounded portrayal than Olivia Hussey's over the top paranoid schizophrenic version in the 1990 telemovie "Psycho IV: The Beginning."
Carlton Cuse ("Lost") and Kerry Ehrin ("Friday Night Lights") are producing the series.

Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga will be returning to the small screen, where in the past she's starred in USA Network procedural "Touching Evil," NBC action series "Uc: Undercover" and Fox fantasy show "Roar" (alongside a young Heath Ledger), to play the pre-mummified Mrs. Norma Bates, mother of Norman, in A&E's "Bates Motel." Announced last month, "Bates Motel" got a straight-to-series order from A&E for a project that will serve as a prequel to the story told in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho," one that will explore that dysfunctional relationship between Norman and his mother that resulted in the twisted killer moviegoers know so well. According to the Hollywood Reporter: Farmiga will play Norma Louise Bates, described as a complicated, passionate and compelling woman who's a smart, multidimensional character always capable of surprising people. Chicago – As an actress, Vera Farmiga broke out big in 2009 with her Oscar nominated performance in “Up in the Air.” Farmiga is now taking a total filmmaker’s role, playing the lead character and directing the new film, “Higher Ground.”
Farmiga began her career in the late 1990s, scoring a featured role in the TV series “Roar.” After working some supporting parts in TV and film, including HBO’s “Iron Jawed Angels” and “Touching Evil” (both 2004), she began to appear in more prominent feature films like “The Manchurian Candidate” (2004), “The Departed” (2006) and “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” (2008). More attention came in 2009 opposite George Clooney with her Oscar nominated role in “Up in the Air.”

Vera Farmiga is someone I've always liked as an actor--i found her the real star of "Up in the Air," even when every0ne was going nuts over Anna Kendrick. And the fact she used to star in the Fox series "Roar" opposite Heath Ledger only ups her cache in my eyes. But it turns out she's also quite a director, as evidenced by her debut, "Higher Ground," now in theaters. I'm not sure how the film did over the weekend--i believe it was set to play in three theaters, and I think two of them were closed due to Hurricane Irene. But hopefully the weather will be better this weekend and people can check out this little gem, which tells the story of a Fundamentalist Christian woman (Farmiga) who slowly begins to question her faith. Less than a week worth of recovering from the Sundance Film Festival, and we are already looking forward to our next, big film fest coverage. That would be the South by Southwest Film Festival held annually in Austin, Texas. Last year, Scott and I brought you all kinds of coverage from the Lone Star State, and this year doesn’t look to be much different.
With that, the announcement came last night of the feature films that will be playing at the SXSW Film Festival. Previous announcement were already made about films like Cold Weather, Electra Luxx, Hubble 3D, Lemmy, Saturday Night, and The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights making their debut. Kick-ass was recently announced as the opening night film, as well.
Among the other films being presented this year are some Sundance darlings, a few, highly anticipated premieres, and MacGruber.

I was so excited at seeing the SXSW line up last night that I completely forgot to post it and started searching the interwebs for cool content to go with it. Oops. Yes, I wish I was there but alas, it wasn’t mean to be (though don’t despair. We’ll be bringing you wicked awesome coverage).
But enough rambling, you want to know what’s all playing. Well, for a start there’s the much anticipated McGruber (trailer), the Duplass’ semi-mainstream comedy Cyrus, Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Micmacs (trailer, review), Daniel Stamm’s horror flick Cotton and that’s on top of the previously announced titles which include Electra Luxx (Carla Gugino as a pregnant porn star? Bring. It. On.) and Kick-Ass (trailer). That’s already a great line-up but dear me, some of the other titles are pretty awesome too.

Late yesterday the SXSW Fim Festival, which runs from March 12-20 in Austin, TX, announced the full lineup of films that will be screening at this year’s event. And baby, it’s quite a list. Mixing big name films with intimate indie gems, the sheer number of films and the vast array of talented filmmakers is sure to be a hit with attendees and critics alike.
This lineup includes premieres of studio films such as Universal’s MacGruber, Lionsgate’s teen superhero actioneer Kick-Ass and smaller films like Tim Blake Nelson’s Leaves of Grass, Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Micmacs, Michel Gondry’s The Thorn in the Heart and Steven Soderbergh’s And Everything Is Going Fine. With so many films to watch, it will be very difficult to find time to seem them all during the events nine days. But hell, we’re going to try.

Every TV season we experience that 1 new show that is so amazing, that we are instantly hooked. To coin a popular New Zealand comedic duo, “conditions are perfect.” With amazing cast, superior writing, excellent production it seems that nothing will stop this program from rising to greatness. But for some reason we can’t fathom, these shows just fall short. I know you’ve experienced the bitterness of unjust cancellation. We all have. Below is a list of 5 TV shows that are no more and (I think) television is worse because of it:
5. Roar (1997) – This was a bold attempt by the Fox network in a time where fantasy TV only ruled in the realms of graveyard syndication (ironically, that hasn’t really changed.) Created by Shaun Cassidy, it follows the story of Conor, (Heath Ledger) a displaced prince who must unite the clans of Ireland to drive out the Roman Empire in 400 A.

"Up in the Air," director Jason Reitman's third feature (see story on Page 23), is centered on Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), a corporate downsizer who spends more time on flights and in strange hotel rooms than at home as he travels the country firing people. But the movie is also very much about the women in his life. There's the ambitious co-worker (Anna Kendrick) he's forced to show the ropes to, the sisters (Amy Morton and Melanie Lynskey) who need his support, and Alex, the woman who enchants him. Portrayed by Vera Farmiga, Alex upsets Ryan's compact and sterile life when he begins to develop deeper feelings for her, even though she's been brutally honest about keeping their relationship purely superficial. "She's the turbulence in his flight," notes Farmiga.Since her breakout role as a cocaine-addicted housewife in the 2004 indie "Down to the Bone," Farmiga has amassed an impressive résumé,...

Chris Hemsworth, a virtual unknown to American audiences, had just been approved to play the lead role in Thor by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and the film's director Kenneth Branagh. Hemsworth can currently be seen as "George Kirk" in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot and also just snagged the lead in Red Dawn for United Artists last Thursday. (He's currently filming Joss Whedon's horror flick Cabin In The Woods for UA, and I heard the studio was so hot on him that's why it cast Hemsworth in the action pic.) The 25-year-old hunk played "Kim Hyde" on 171 episodes of Home and Away, the successful Oz TV series where Heath Ledger started. Marvel Studios has scheduled Thor for a May 20, 2011, release. The way Chris Hemsworth got the part of Thor is one of those great Hollywood stories that happens only once in a blue moon.

Heath Ledger was found dead in a downtown Manhattan apartment Tuesday, with police saying drugs might have been a factor. The Australian actor was 28.
Ledger was in the middle of a break from shooting Terry Gilliam's fantasy adventure "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" and was due back on set in Vancouver later in the week. The film's producers were in meetings Tuesday afternoon in an effort to work around the tragedy.
Ledger had recently finished shooting Warner Bros. Pictures' "The Dark Knight," Christopher Nolan's sequel to "Batman Begins." Ledger's portrayal of the villainous Joker was already building buzz, and images of his scary psychopath were going to be a cornerstone of the marketing campaign. Principal photography had already wrapped on the feature, due to be released this summer, and additional shoots were seen as unlikely because of Nolan's thoroughness as a director.
