It appears that Harrison Ford built his career upon roles that were passed on by other famous actors. Be it his breakout role as Han Solo or his adventurous hero role in Indiana Jones, Ford was not the first choice for these roles. Interestingly, he was also not the first choice for another action role that the audiences loved him for. Ford’s role as President Marshall in Air Force One was initially offered to Kevin Costner.

Costner asked the producers to specifically give the role to the Star Wars actor when he dropped out due to his other commitments. Ford and Costner weren’t exactly best friends which made the Yellowstone actor’s move a very generous one.

India's “renaissance woman” Aparna Sen – actress, director, producer, fighter for women's right, diversity and ethnic & religious minorities – whose career in the film business spans over six decades, was presented with the Red Lotus Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 in Vienna. The filmmaker was unfortunately not able to fly over to recieve it, and the award was presented to the winner through the German film critic and editor of the film magazine Shomingeki, Rüdiger Tomczak.

Despite ancient humans having already overcome several potential doomsday scenarios in real life, post-apocalyptic fiction used to be relatively rare until the invention of the atomic bomb convinced us that the end of the world could be just around the proverbial corner.
Since then, we’ve seen many different stories about the collapse of civilization and the strange societies that might emerge from the rubble, but I’d argue that one of the most interesting of these apocalyptic visions is the post-nuclear America of the iconic Fallout games. A witty satire of American jingoism and cold war shenanigans, it’s honestly baffling that it so long for us to finally see a live-action adaptation of this memorable setting.
Thankfully, Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet’s Fallout TV show isn’t just a great adaptation – it’s also an incredibly fun standalone story that makes the most of its post-apocalyptic worldbuilding.

Kevin Costner’s passion project will be a two-part summer release this year. The actor has returned to the director’s seat for the first time in over twenty years for Horizon: An American Saga, which is set to be told in two chapters. Costner began work on this story in 1988 and he has more movies planned. The main character that he invented for this film in 1988 was so important to him that he even named his son, Hayes, after him. He hopes the movies can be a big franchise and that years from now, people can binge-watch hours of Horizon in theaters.
Costner, who is not known to be a franchise actor, is planning to do what most Hollywood tentpole movies aim for — go for that summer movie release date. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 will be riding into theaters this June, and in a recent report from Deadline...

Being a part of a television show as celebrated as Yellowstone is equivalent to winning the lottery for any actor. In light of this, the Yellowstone cast has mostly kept quiet following Kevin Costner’s unexpected departure during the second half of Season 5.
How do the remaining cast members feel about Costner’s exit from Paramount’s show? Did the cast feel abandoned by The Untouchables star because he left some storylines unfinished for his Yellowstone character (John Dutton)? Well, Costner’s former co-stars from the series are reportedly unhappy about his departure and the fallout from it, according to a report from Life & Style.

As the saying goes, ‘every great man is inspired by another great man to reach their full potential’. Well, this sentiment could not ring truer than in the case of Gene Hackman & Kevin Costner.
For the most part, viewers recognized Costner from the hit drama series Yellowstone, but he was popular throughout the 1990s for other roles as well. Beginning his career as an extra in low-budget productions, he progressed to more mainstream roles in acclaimed flicks, including Dances with Wolves and No Way Out.

Besides, he has shown a tremendous amount of endurance. Costner got up and over the critically panned films Waterworld and The Postman, which could have easily ended his career. And later, he spellbound audiences once again with his exceptional Yellowstone performance on the Paramount Network.

“Horizon: An American Saga,” Kevin Costner’s wildly ambitious, sprawling, risky and quite possibly foolhardy two-part Western rode into CinemaCon on Tuesday.
The films, which will premiere this summer, were partially financed by Costner, who mortgaged his ranch to help raise the money for the $100 million epic. “Hopefully the people come and they keep coming and they binge your theaters,” Costner told cinema operators at Warner Bros. presentation. “There’s something in me that wanted to make this movie, and I never make one that I think won’t blow up.”
And he hinted he’s not done yet, revealing there are even more chapters on, well, the horizon. No matter how the final film ends up, Costner gets points for sheer persistence. After all, he’s been trying to get the film off the ground for decades, starting in 1988 and then trying to shoot it again in 2003 without success.

Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone is one of the prestige titles on Paramount+, and the series has been received positively by audiences. The series’ main lead, John Dutton, is a man of honor and dignity who will go to any length to protect his Yellowstone range and preserve the Dutton family legacy.

The Independent Iranian Filmmakers Association (Iifma) has written to AMPAS to protest the omission of murdered director Dariush Mehrjui from the In Memoriam segment of the Academy Award on Sunday night.
As per Oscar tradition, the Academy paid tribute to a select group of 51 film and entertainment figures who had died over the previous year, including actor Matthew Perry, director William Friedkin, actor-performer Jane Birkin and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto in a short In Memoriam segment.
Mehrjui was named instead on the Academy’s In Memoriam page on its website, alongside 279 recently deceased figures related to the film world, including the 51 people feted at the ceremony.
The director was stabbed to death alongside his screenwriter wife Vahideh Moahmmadifar in their home outside Tehran last October.

Kevin Costner has revealed the trailer for the first installment of Horizon: An American Saga, his upcoming multi-part, self-funded western. Horizon Part One is set to hit theaters on June 28th, 2024, with part two following just weeks later on August 16th.
Horizon has been Costner’s passion project for decades, having first begun working on it in 1988. He wrote directed, and stars in the film — and also largely financed it himself (apparently by mortgaging his house). It’s also the reason why Costner decided to depart Yellowstone.
After securing a distribution deal with Warner Bros. and New Line in 2022, Costner left the set of Yellowstone and headed to Utah, where he shot the first two installments of Horizon in succession. Depending on the success of those films, Costner hopes to make two more installments.
Horizon is set during the four-year period of America’s Civil War (1861-1865). Alongside Costner,...

Sorting through America’s history is a Herculean task. Humans built the nation with blood, sweat, and tears, watering the soil with memory, pain, and perseverance. Today, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga trailer explores the settlement of America’s Western frontier from the Indigenous groups who blessed the land to those who occupied it by force. Horizon will be Kevin Costner‘s first time directing a movie since Open Range in 2003. He also busted out his directing chops for The Postman and Dances with Wolves, the latter of which earned him an Academy Award for Best Director.
Kevin Costner’s Horizon will “span 15 years in the settlement of America’s Western frontier, and focus on both the settlers as well as the Indigenous groups that first occupied the land.”
Here’s the official synopsis for Horizon: An American Saga courtesy of Warner Bros.:

No, it’s not the 1990s or the early aughts, but Kevin Costner is back in the directing game in a truly big way this year with a two-part film, “Horizon: An American Saga.” After Oscar glory with “Dances With Wolves,” (seven Oscars include Best Picture and Best Director), Costner stumbled in his career pretty hard, both in directing and otherwise. 1995’s “Waterworld” was a notorious bomb, and then just one year later, 1996’s “The Postman,” his sophomore directorial effort was another flop.

When Kevin Costner revealed the trailer for “Horizon: An American Saga,” the first of his planned four-part epic about the American West, the two-time Academy Award winner looked positively giddy — at least over Zoom.
“Trailers have always been kind of a favorite part for me, even as a boy going to the movies,” Costner said, grinning as he unveiled the first footage in a virtual conversation with journalists. “You’re obviously there to see the movie you want, but isn’t it kind of cool when you see what’s coming? … And with that in mind, I did my very best to expose what’s going to be a four-part saga.”

In the 1995 movie "Waterworld," Kevin Costner was the draw in more ways than one. To much of the audience, he was still the glamorous movie star who had managed to pull off a blockbuster "Robin Hood" movie despite his inability to successfully nail an English accent. To others, he seemed like he might be a potential trainwreck on the verge of derailment. "Waterworld" had fallen victim to many behind-the-scenes tales of sinking sets, director fights, and Costner rewriting the script to make himself look better. Ultimately, for one reason or another, enough people were curious about the film that it turned a profit. However difficult he may have been behind the scenes, the star turned out to still have it.
Within the movie, however, the person everyone wants to see is Enola, a nine year-old girl whose back tattoo features an encoded map to the last bit of dry land on a post-climate change world.

On Dec. 11, 1998, Touchstone Pictures unveiled Wes Anderson’s Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray starrer Rushmore in theaters, where it would go on to gross $17 million domestically. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
This sophomore feature from director Wes Anderson (Bottle Rocket) is an unusually stylish and quirky comedy that represents a significant marketing challenge for Touchstone Pictures.
A bizarre romantic triangle among a precocious teen wunderkind, a millionaire industrialist and a young schoolteacher, Rushmore has far more imagination and wit than most major studio efforts, but it is occasionally undone by its preciousness. The presence of Bill Murray, delivering one of his sharpest comic performances in eons, should help significantly. The film screened at the recent New York Film Festival.
Jason Schwartzman, making an auspicious screen debut, plays Max Fischer, a bespectacled l0th-grader at the upscale, snotty Rushmore Academy. Max is not exactly an academic star, but...

There’s something about loners that just seems to sit well with Kevin Costner. In several of his films, he plays the type of character who might be described as a “lone wolf,” particularly in movies like Waterworld, Dances with Wolves, and The Postman. The last one, in particular, featured Costner as a loner in a post-apocalyptic world. At the time of The Postman’s release, Costner acknowledged playing those types of roles a lot, but he didn’t think it was really part of a pattern. Screenwriter Eric Roth reveals he’s written a sci-fi script for Denis Villeneuve that is “certainly about eternity.”
We know that Denis Villeneuve has already set his sights on completing his Dune trilogy, so the celebrated director’s attention is most likely focused on grinding the gears of a trilogy-capper irreversibly into motion in the months preceding Dune: Part II's delayed March opening.
However, it seems the filmmaker has been thinking about life beyond Dune, given that the acclaimed screenwriter Eric Roth has revealed that he’s penned a ‘secret’ script for Villeneuve, one that is about “space and time”. Roth was appearing on the A Script Apart podcast when he made the revelation, and while he didn’t give away too much, the project certainly sounded like it belongs in Villeneuve’s cerebral house style, given that he’s already made thought-provoking films such as Arrival and Blade Runner 2049.

Kevin Costner’s two-part Western epic “Horizon: An American Saga” is coming to theaters next summer.
“Chapter 1” will be released on June 28, 2024, and “Chapter 2” will land on Aug. 16, 2024, according to Warner Bros. and New Line. The first movie will open against Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two,” while the sequel premieres a week after Lionsgate’s “Borderlands” adaptation, starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart.
Costner has teased big plans for “Horizon,” which he originally planned as “four different movies” to be released every three months. “They’re all different films that all connect, so you’re watching a saga of these storylines that are happening,” he told Variety last year. It is not clear if Costner still plans to stretch “Horizon” into a four-part saga.

When HBO’s “The Idol” premiered to a resounding “ugh, really?” from the general public last month, there was a specific label people were quick to apply to the series: vanity project. Who the show was a vanity project for depended on which creator was being complained about at the time. But haters of the instantly despised pop star erotic thriller were practically universal in their assessment that the show was an ego stroke for star The Weeknd and/or series director Sam Levinson: both of whom took their lashings over the course of the show’s five-episode run.
The pair clearly had sky high hopes for the series, to the point that it received a rare TV premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023 before its broadcast debut in June. That was criticized by many as a deeply egotistical push, but its inclusion at the festival did...

Kevin Costner is departing from Yellowstone after Season 5. The actor’s exit from the mega-popular drama is unsurprising after reports of alleged issues between Costner and Yellowstone series co-creator Taylor Sheridan started making headlines. Reportedly, Costner and Sheridan argued about scheduling, leaving the show’s fate in limbo. News about Costner’s exit comes from Et, who says, “there is still no update on when the cast and crew are going to return to Montana, where the series is filmed on location.” The show still needs to wrap the remaining episodes of Season 5, and Costner was reportedly gumming up the works.
The news about Costner’s exit from Yellowstone comes after headlines stating that the actor’s wife, Christine Baumgartner, is filing for divorce after 18 years of marriage.
“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action.

Intro: After the success of Lethal Weapon 3, it was a given there would be a fourth film in the franchise. But the next sequel proved to be surprisingly difficult to get into production. Until Warner Bros. realized they were heading into 1998 without a surefire summer hit on their hands. They gave Lethal Weapon 4 the greenlight and the movie was thrown together in a mad scramble. Twenty-five years later, it’s time to look back at the results of that rush job in this episode of Revisited.
Set-up: With a global box office haul of three hundred and twenty million dollars, Lethal Weapon 3 wasn’t just the biggest hit of the franchise. The 1992 release was considered to be the most profitable film in Warner Bros. history. So studio executives and producer Joel Silver immediately started looking forward to Lethal Weapon 4. Sure, the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be the biggest franchise in the history of cinema, but it took an army of filmmakers and independent superheros to become what it is. If there is one, single unquestioned king of the box office, it is undoubtedly James Cameron. The man, as it stands, has made three of the four highest-grossing movies of all time, with "Avatar," "Avatar: The Way of Water," and "Titanic." The latter was released way back in 1997 and it still managed to cross the 2 billion mark in global ticket sales, something no other film did until (checks notes) "Avatar" in 2009. In its initial run, the film earned 1.84 billion, before subsequent re-releases took it all the way up to 2.19 billion.
No other film in history had a run quite like that of "Titanic," which topped the charts at the domestic box office for an absolutely staggering 15 weekends in a row.

The death far too young of Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis Presley, on January 12 at age 54 came as a shock. She had attended the Golden Globe Awards ceremony on January 10 along with her mother Priscilla to cheer on Austin Butler, who won the Best Film Drama Actor trophy for his portrayal of Lisa Marie’s father and Priscilla’s onetime husband in Baz Luhrmann‘s musical biopic “Elvis.” At the Globes, Butler concluded his acceptance speech with a shout-out to the two women “for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me.” Just two days later, Lisa Marie would be gone, the exact cause of death not yet determined.

Yep, before playing the borderline psychopathic patriarch John Dutton in Taylor Sheridan's insanely popular "Yellowstone," Costner starred in many of the 1980s and '90s' biggest movies.
Costner first showed up on the silver screen in bit parts in the early 1980s. He started stealing scenes in supporting parts, quickly establishing himself as one of his era's most bankable "everyman" leading men, alongside Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, and Tom Hanks. Costner's legendary run as an A-list movie star included Academy Award winners, bonafide blockbusters, cinematic classics, and, yes, some of the biggest bombs of all time. I'm not going to talk (much) about those. Instead, I'm going to count down Costner's 14 best movies ever. If you're planning your own personal Costner movie marathon, check out this list.

There isn't a single historical figure of the 19th century whose life has been more mythologized via motion pictures than Wyatt Earp. Several great Westerns have been dedicated to his exploits. John Ford's "My Darling Clementine," John Sturges' "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral," and George P. Cosmatos' "Tombstone" are widely considered the best of the bunch. As for Lawrence Kasdan's "Wyatt Earp," a three-hour, swing-for-the-bleachers epic that hit theaters six months after the release of "Tombstone," the consensus holds that it is a film in search of a greater purpose. It's the whole Earp story, but to what end?
One of the most fascinating facets of Earp's life is that he moved to Los Angeles, and served as a technical advisor on silent Westerns made by Tom Mix and John Ford. You'd think a cinephile like Kasdan would want to delve into this subject with antiheroic vigor,...

In "Air Force One," Harrison Ford famously pushes a Russian terrorist out of a moving jet, growling the action movie one-liner, "Get off my plane!" However, if Hollywood history had gone a different way, it might not have been Ford's plane at all.
"Air Force One" was one of many action films in the 1990s to employ a "Die Hard" scenario whereby one man takes on a group of terrorists led by a guy with a foreign accent in a single location. Not content to simply be labeled "'Die Hard' on a plane", "Air Force" set itself apart from the rest of the pack by being "'Die Hard' on the President's plane." Its premise saw Ford playing President James Marshall, a Vietnam vet who makes a public pledge not to negotiate with terrorists, only to find his own private jet, Air Force One, hijacked by some.

Film Noir is a universe based around mystery, the femme fatale, and the detective. Sex, lies and murder is the seductive tone that created the visually stimulating art form of cinema that began in the 1940s with The Maltese Falcon.
The film is considered the first real noir that starred Mary Astor and Humphrey Bogart and set off a chain of mainstream hits of films including Double Indemnity; Mildred Pierce; The Postman Always Rings Twice and The Third Man.
The Faces of Noir: Studio Portraits Featuring the Silver Screen Stars Ava Gardner, Humphrey Bogart & Rita Hayworth
The genre ‘Noir’ was coined by French critic Nino Frank and would define the cat-and-mouse murder mystery era of film with memorable fiendish crooks, stylish bombshells, and deadly characters who set the silver screen alight for two decades.

Luis Llosa's 1997 creature feature "Anaconda" is one of those rare films that many people saw, but that few people love. Unapologetically reminiscent of monster movies from the 1950s, "Anaconda" was snarfed at by the general public, earning generally negative reviews (it currently holds a 40 approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and netting 11 Razzie nominations. It won none of its Razzies, "losing" to films like "The Postman" and "Batman & Robin." One may interpret the losses as a compliment or an insult. Despite the sour reception, "Anaconda" -- which starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Danny Trejo, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson, and Jon Voight -- earned a massive 136 million on a mere 45 million budget. It was followed by four sequels, including a "Lake Placid" crossover film wherein the titular snake did battle with a giant crocodile.
The premise of "Anaconda" is about as complex as a cheap animal attack movie might warrant,...
