What’s worthy of PopWatching this week? The first week of December means holiday programming is in full cheery swing with an SNL special, a Cma caroling fest, and a Sound of Music live reboot. But it’s still early, so don’t let the Christmas fever get out of hand. Casey Affleck fights to the bone in Out of the Furnace, in theaters this Friday. And you’ve got zombies to deal with in the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead tonight.

Get a different angle on the holiday season, with these six flicks
Santa Claus (1959)

Don't be fooled by the utilitarian title: Santa Claus is less a biopic of the jelly-bellied gift-giver than a warped Christmas fever dream in which he happens to play a supporting role. The film's real star is Lucifer, who – angered by society's unshakeable devotion to Saint Nick – sends forth a horned demon to turn the children of Earth against him. Santa, hard at work in his orbiting space castle (don't ask) is powerless to help as the campy incubus schemes to corrupt virtuous little boys and girls.
Holiday In Handcuffs (2007)

Waitress Trudie takes a decidedly extreme course of action when faced with another Christmas without a boyfriend. Brandishing an antique shotgun, she kidnaps handsome stranger David and whisks him back...

Previously on Glee, the rules of the Ohio Show Choir Sectionals Competition continued to be remarkably similar to the rules of Calvinball. New Directions broke this year's mandate of "no fainting and/or vomiting on stage" when Marley Rose did both, and so they were immediately disqualified. They broke up and came together again, as has been the bread and butter of every episode of this show since the pilot, lo those many tears and self-inflicted face punches ago. Rachel left the validating arms of one man to run headlong into the validating arms of another man. And Kurt crushed his impromptu Nyada audition without any props or tear-away slacks.
Sue Sylvester is journaling away about the holidays, blaspheming the name of Love Actually to let us know this week's episode will consist of a bunch of unrelated stories that may or may not come...

Their Holiday Favorites is a series in which members of the Austin film community tell us about movies they enjoy watching during the holiday season. Today, Austin film programmer and producer Daniel Metz (Slacker 2011) explains why you should consider Stanley Kubrick when picking movies to watch this holiday season:
It's not hard to see why Christmas movies are so often placed in the ghetto of film genres; for the most part schmaltzy, child-oriented and low humored, these pictures prey on the weakness of seasonal sentimentality to the detriment of meaningful storytelling. Christmas movies don't ask questions, they don't get at truths about human nature, and they don't take risks.
With one exception. Only one truly great filmmaker has ever made a Christmas film: that director is Stanley Kubrick, and the film is Eyes Wide Shut. Every frame of this striking, dangerous last film from the master that gave us Dr. Strangelove,...
