Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead) has landed the lead role in a new supernatural horror thriller coming from Screen Gems called Shrine. The film is an adaptation of the novel by James Herbert, and the film is being written and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos, the writer of Hercules, Beauty and the Beast, Charlie’s Angels and Snake Eyes.
Shrine focuses on “a disgraced journalist who discovers a series of seemingly divine miracles in a small New England town and uses them to resurrect his career, but the ‘miracles’ may have a much darker source.”
This sounds like an interesting story, and it’s great to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan land another good movie role, and this seems like it’ll be a fun project for him. The film is being developed with Ghost House Pictures and Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are producing.
Production will begin on Shrine in February.

Starpower may be an ephemeral and difficult-to-define quality, but I dare anyone who watched “The Raid: Redemption” to say they didn’t think Iko Uwais was going to be one of the biggest action stars of his generation. Uwais is the complete package; not only does he possess an unparalleled physical ability, but he also has genuine gravitas as an actor. This is no stuntman-turned-performer – his character work in the ‘Raid’ franchise, even independent of all the fight scenes, should have been enough to make Hollywood take notice.

The Raid star Iko Uwais is joining the upcoming G.I. Joe film project Snake Eyes. According to THR, he will take on the role of Hard Master, “Snake Eyes’ tough as nails teacher who is also a skilled sword master.”
I’m a fan of Uwais, the guy is a freakin’ badass and this is a seriously great project for him to be a part of! He joins the previously cast Henry Golding, who is playing Snake Eyes and Andre Koji who is set to play Storm Shadow, “a ninja who is both Snake Eyes’ blood bother and archenemy.”
Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the script, which is said to “center on Snake Eyes seeking revenge for his father’s death by joining the Arashikage Clan, a ninja clan based in Japan. Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding is talks to star in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming G.I. Joe film Snake Eyes. If cast, he will take on the title role of the film, which I’d be fine with. I like him as an actor.
The studio is working with Hasbro on trying to relaunch the G.I. Joe franchise ,and I really hope that they are able to pull it off this time and deliver a great G.I. Joe film! The upcoming Snake Eyes film is being directed by Robert Schwentke from a script written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who wrote Beauty and the Beast and The Huntsman: Winter’s War.
Snake Eyes is known for his all-black ninja style, and he doesn't speak. Here's a little background on the character:

Actor Henry Golding ("Last Christmas") will star as 'Commando' aka "Snake Eyes" in the Paramount/Hasbro "G.I. Joe" spin-off action feature, targeting an October 16, 2020 wide release:
Snake Eyes, originally part of Hasbro's 1982 G.I. Joe toyline, was portrayed by Ray Park in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" (2009) and in "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" (2013).
He is the team's original 'Commando', with his history, including real name, place of birth and service number, remaining "Classified". All that is known for certain is his rank/grade, originally 'Us Army Sergeant/E-5', eventually reaching 'Sergeant First Class/E-7'.
His primary military specialty is infantry, followed by hand-to-hand combat instructor. He has undergone drill sergeant training, and is a former 'Us Army Special Forces' and 'Delta Force' operator.
He was trained at the 'MacV Recondo School' and served in 'LRRPs' in Southeast Asia with both 'Stalker' and 'Storm Shadow.

We’ll get this out of the way at the top — Henry Golding is a fine actor and a very handsome man. However, when you think of all the actors in the entire world to play Snake Eyes in the upcoming “GI Joe” spin-off film, Golding likely isn’t the first name on your list. Hell, he’s probably not in your top 50. But yet, according to a report, it would appear he’s at the top of the list for Paramount, and that’s all that matters.

Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding is set to topline Paramount’s G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes.
Robert Schwentke is directing with Brian Goldner producing. Project is being written by Beauty and the Beast scribe Evan Spiliotopoulos.
The most recent edition of G.I. Joe is inspired by the 1980s Hasbro toys which had an ancillary life in a TV series and Marvel published comic-book. Snake Eyes is special mercenary on the G.I. Joe armed forces, specifically a ninja commando. In the comic-book, his body was burned, hence the reason why he’s clad in black. In the comic-book (a plotline that was adapted into the movies), we learn that Snake eyes is the brother of Storm Shadow, his arch rival who works for G.I. Joe’s main enemy, Cobra.

The GI Joe has been one of the most iconic films and now as per the latest talks going on, we see that one of the most characters from G.I. Joe is all set to get his standalone movie. He is none other than Snake Eyes.
Speaking on Snake Eyes, the GI Joe franchise gave the last look of Snake Eyes and also his tragic background where we see him getting all the appraises and his counterpart storm-shadow being demeaned all times. This leads both of them taking to different paths and finally they become the two sides of the coin.
Now speaking on a standalone film on Snake Eyes, the film might show the true nature of his upbringing. The film might explore his making and the journey of him becoming one of the most iconic Joes of all time.

A G.I. Joe’s work is never done, as a new shared universe spinoff is in development, this one featuring Chuckles.

I’ve been saying all along that the future G.I. Joe films should put a focus on building up certain characters in a cinematic universe instead of throwing them all into one movie. It looks like Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are on the path to doing just that!
They’ve already announced a Snake Eyes movie, and now it’s being reported that they are also developing another G.I. Joe film that will include the character Chuckles, who has not been introduced in any of the films. I love this!
The film is being written by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (Alias, Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol) and the film is described as an ensemble piece. Chuckles won’t be the main character, but as the film development progresses that could change. There’s no word on who the other character will be.

Writer Evan Spiliotopoulos ("Beauty and the Beast") continues developing his "G.I. Joe" spin-off screenplay "Snake Eyes" for a Paramount/Hasbro standalone martial arts action feature, now targeting an October 16, 2020 wide release:

He is the team's original commando, with much of his history and information, including his real name, place of birth and service number, remaining "Classified".

Brian De Palma has used the Italian film composer Pino Donaggio on and off for over 40 years, ever since their first (and still greatest) collaboration, “Carrie,” in 1976. Donaggio, with his lushly purple neo-Bernard Herrmann dissonant extravagance, is to De Palma what Angelo Badalamenti has been to David Lynch: a composer of rapturous dread-infused melodies that evoke a kind of meta-romantic Old Hollywood delirium. Yet to hear the unmistakable sounds of yet another lavishly orchestrated Donaggio swoonfest laid over the flat, static expository scenes of the choppy benumbed “international” police thriller “Domino” is to watch De Palma trying to create cinematic fire out of burnt-out match sticks.
There are legendary examples of directors claiming that their work was cut to ribbons by clueless producers: the 1954 George Cukor version of “A Star Is Born”, or Jonathan Demme’s “Swing Shift.” But what are we to make of a movie like “Domino,...

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is dangling off a rooftop. To his left, he can see his best friend through a window, dying from a slit throat. To his right, he can see the murderer, also hanging for dear life. It’s a hell of a scene, a hell of an image, and yet — we feel nothing.
That’s “Domino,” a couple of interesting set pieces in search of a reason to exist, from director Brian De Palma. For most of his career, De Palma has been hailed as a modern master of suspense, or at least a dynamite visual stylist. And although many of his films — including “Carrie,” “Blow Out” and “Dressed to Kill” — are now classics, even misfires like “Snake Eyes” and “Passion” usually have some bravura cinematic showpieces that make them worth watching.

With Paramount gearing up to shoot a Snake Eyes-centered G.I. Joe spinoff film later this year, the studio utilized its panel at Cinema Con 2019 to tease fans with the possibility of a third entry in its main series.
G.I. Joe 3 has been in the works at Paramount since the release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, but lukewarm reviews and middling box office business has slowed down any serious momentum for the project. Dwayne Johnson was set to reprise his role as Roadblock in a proposed third film titled G.I. Joe: Vigilant, but it seems like he’s no longer attached.
Instead, a new rumor from FullCircle suggests the Vigilant script has been retooled to focus on Philip “Chuckles” Provost, an undercover agent who must come out of hiding to take on Cobra’s latest threat, twins Tomax and Xamot and their time machine called the “Wheel of Time.

The creator of Netflix's The Toys That Made Us takes us through the five-year process to get his passion project made.
This guest column comes from Brian Volk-Weiss, creator and executive producer of Netflix's The Toys That Made Us.
In 2011, I was in a Borders bookstore when the initial kernel of the idea that would become The Toys That Made Us hit me like a ton of Energon Cubes; why were there so many books about the War of 1812 and zero about the origin of Transformers? Or G.I. Joe? Or He-Man? The War of 1812’s importance notwithstanding, how was it possible that hundreds of millions of people knew the names Optimus Prime and Snake Eyes, had their youths shaped by those characters, and yet not one book out of the thousands that were on display could be purchased and taken home to learn about their origins?...

When it was announced that Paramount Pictures would be developing a new G.I. Joe film that put the focus on Snake Eyes, a lot of fans were hoping to see Ray Park return to reprise the role.
Well, I’ve got some bad news for you. According to /Film, Park will not be back, and producer Lorenzo Dibonaventura explained why:
“Probably not, because we are going to the origin story. As you know in the comic book, you saw his face. And it is, I’ll say, the formation of a hero. So you’ve got to see somebody and it can’t be Ray’s age, unfortunately.”
Well, that’s kind of a bummer. I understand why they won’t be using Park, but I’m sure this news will upset a few fans.

“Beauty and The Beast” screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the first draft of the screenplay. The story centers on the character’s origins where he tries to become a member of the Arashikage Clan, a ninja clan based in Japan. According to “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra: The Essential Guide,” the Arashikage worked as shadowy assassins for generations, using deception to earn their keep as ninjas, as well as developing a reputation for being able to perform impossible tasks.

Robert Schwentke, who received critical acclaim for his thriller “The Captain,” is in early talks to direct Paramount’s “G.I. Joe” spinoff, “Snake Eyes,” sources tell Variety.
Evan Spiliotopoulos, who wrote “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Huntsman: Winter’s War,” penned the script.
Brian Goldner is among those producing the feature based on the Hasbro toys.
Snake Eyes is a silent ninja commando who dresses in all black, never reveals his face, and doesn’t speak. He stands out among the military anti-terrorist group and quickly establishes himself as the most popular. He has a special relationship with Scarlett, the team’s one-time only female member, and sometimes carries out solo missions with his pet wolf, Timber. His archenemy is Storm Shadow, a ninja who is also his blood brother.
