Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto is set to star in and executive produce Spy Princess, a limited series based on Shrabani Basu’s Spy Princess: The Life of Noor Inayat Khan, the definitive biography of Noor’s life, from writer Olivia Hetreed (Girl With a Pearl Earring) and Red Room Films.
Hetreed will pen the adaptation based on the book, and Basu will serve as a consultant on the series.
Noor was the first female wireless operator sent into occupied France in 1943 – a role with a life expectancy of just six weeks.
“She was a fierce and amazing woman, the most unlikely heroine of World War 2,” Pinto said. “Sending women to the front line is controversial even now. Then it was unthinkable. Sending a Sufi mystic, who won’t use a gun, daughter of a long-haired Indian Guru who preaches love and peace – ridiculous! But Noor thrives, not in spite of her differences,...

Almost every Bollywood junkie knows what to expect when they walk in to a cinema hall to watch a film starring none other than Mr. Salman Khan. Most of his releases during the course of the last five years have been films which have mind-numbing storylines; sexy, yet useless heroines with not much to do; as well as action/violent scenes written specifically to glamorize Salman’s much-talked about body and abs. However, to my immense surprise; Bajrangi Bhaijaan has none of these features and it is ultimately a poignant story about the relationship between a noble Indian man, who is determined to return a six-year-old girl to her parents across the border in Pakistan.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan is a film which looks at the relations between India and Pakistan from a more humane angle, as opposed to political. This film is not about the heated political relations between the two...

Before Yash Chopra’s Veer-Zaara (2004), there was Raj Kapoor’s Henna (1991). Perhaps today still the most beautiful and genre defining film on Indo-Pak cross border relations, with its aspirations for peaceful co-existence.
Henna released in the summer of 1991. It was the last film India’s showman Raj Kapoor was working on before he passed away unexpectedly a few years earlier in 1988. So in a sense, Henna was his swansong. The film was completed by his sons Randhir and Rishi Kapoor, with Randhir as director and Rishi as the leading man. The brothers later shared that they actually had to alter their father’s original script as it was a little too controversial and too ahead of its time, which really does make the mind ponder.
Henna’s character was created to symbolise an innocence that understands humanity and no man made borders and conflicts. That role went to Pakistani actress Zeba Bakhtiyar,...

Ali Zafar of Chashme Buddoor and Yami Gautam from Vicky Donor will play a Pakistani boy and an Indian girl ready to break border barriers for love in a film called Aman Ki Asha Of course Ali plays Aman and Yami plays Asha. The film written by Neeraj Pandey is currently being directed by E. Niwas under an air of supreme secrecy. Pandey whose first film was a critical and commercial winner and was remade into three languages, has now scripted a remake of a 2004 Spanish film Seres Queridos (Only Human) a comic love story of a Jewish girl and Palestinian boy, which has been transposed by Pandey into an Indo-Pak setting. Says a source, "Pandey feels strongly on the Indo-Pak issue. We've had earlier films showing a cross-border romance like Raj Kapoor's Henna, J.P Dutta's Refugee and Yash Chopra's Veer Zaara. Pandey's film would be...

They are referred to as the First Family of the film industry and rightly so. After all, the Kapoors have enthralled the moviegoers for almost eight decades and continue to do so right to this day. However, since more than a decade, the prestigious banner -- R.K. Films -- has been inactive, despite the Gen X being active on the acting front. But the once revered banner is all set to strike back. "Yes, we are planning to make a series of films. There's so much talent out there that's making wonderful movies," Randhir Kapoor states, when I ask him if R.K. is getting back at film production. The veteran actor/film-maker recently enacted a pivotal part in Housefull 2. "I'd love to act in movies, but the roles have to be meaty enough. Like the one in Housefull 2," he smiles. After directing Henna, his father's dream project,...

After his comedy turns in Heyy Babyy (2007) and Housefull (2010), Akshay Kumar teams up once again with director Sajid Khan to make it a hat-trick with Housefull 2: The Dirty Dozen.
Kumar - the Bollywood star of such films as Singh Is Kinng, Welcome, Namastey London, De Dana Dhan and Desi Boyz - reprises the role of Arush Jolly in the comedy of errors.
Promising an "action adventure experience packed with high jinks, high kicks and high laughs, all sprinkled with a generous helping of tasty Bollywood masala," Housefull 2 is released on April 5.
Kumar's character is a hopeless figure whose clumsy antics create comedic and unpredictable results.
He is joined by stars including leading lady Asin as Sandy Henna plus Jacqueline Fernandez, Riteish Deshmukh and John Abraham.
The cast also features Malaika Arora Khan, brothers Rishi and Randhir Kapoor, Boman Irani, Johnny Lever and Mithun Chakraborty.
