Watch the new extended, thrilling, five minute Trailer for ‘The Walk’ featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt
In 2008, James Marsh’s documentary Man on Wire, about Philippe Petit took the world by storm. It still to this day holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is considered one of the best, most suspensful, and downright entertaining documentaries ever made. Seven years later, Director Robert Zemeckis is bringing his biopic of Philippe Petit to the biggest screen possible, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt starring as the French trapeze artist. Like James Marsh’s documentary – which was also officially based on Petit’s memoir To Reach the Clouds: My High Wire Walk between the Twin Towers – The Walk reenacts the events surrounding his famous high-wire walk between the Twin Towers of New York’s World Trade Center. A brand new, five-minute IMAX trailer has been released for the high-stakes drama surrounding Petit’s most daring stunt. Watch the new trailer below.

Fans of Man On Wire – and that’s most of the Academy who voted it Best Documentary in 2008 – will be getting another telling of Philippe Petit’s story with The Walk. This time it’s a feature film, with Robert Zemeckis taking on the story that James Marsh told some enthrallingly and Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing the impish French high-wire walker. The film has a new poster lending some sense of awe and vertigo. Like Marsh's doc, Zemeckis' film seems likely to pitch the yarn as a kind of heist thriller by other means. "He wasn't trying to steal money or sell plutonium," says the director, who interviewed Petit for hours, adapting the script with Christopher Browne from the performance artist’s memoir To Reach The Clouds: My High Wire Walk Between The Twin Towers. "He was just trying to create performance art. And he created this beautiful, human moment that...

We’ve already seen one stunningly good film about Philippe Petit’s illegal walk between the World Trade Center towers in James Marsh’s Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire, and now we may be getting another. Next fall, Robert Zemeckis will unveil The Walk, which dramatizes the events of Petit’s book To Reach the Clouds: My High Wire Walk Between the Twin Towers with 50/50 star Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing the daredevil.
Seeing as Zemeckis is working in IMAX 3D, The Walk is certainly going to be a gripping adventure for the senses, but the cast that the director has employed also suggests that the movie could be a major awards presence. Gordon-Levitt, looking very much like Petit in the new images from the film which dropped yesterday, is joined by Charlotte Le Bon, playing a member of Petit’s crew, and Ben Kingsley, portraying his mentor Papa Rudy. James Badge Dale,...

Robert Zemeckis has been hard at work on his film based on the exploits of Man On Wire subject Philippe Petit, who high-wire walked between the World Trade Center towers in 1974. It has a new name – The Walk – and the first pictures are online via USA Today. Talking about the project to the paper’s site, producer Tom Rothman reaches for one of those old standbys of movie hype, the mash-up. "This is Gravity meets Ocean's Eleven," he says. "You've got an underdog team planning what's actually an endearing crime." "He wasn't trying to steal money or sell plutonium," says Zemeckis, who interviewed Petit for hours, and adapted the script with Christopher Browne from the performance artist’s memoir To Reach The Clouds: My High Wire Walk Between The Twin Towers. "He was just trying to create performance art. And he created this beautiful, human moment that changed the way we looked at the towers.
