The Guys Next Door had a hit with "I've Been Waiting For You" in the early '90s. It made it into the US charts. The group stayed together for a short time after the show went off the air.
Producers of the show wanted a diverse makeup of the cast, so early iterations of the Guys included two Indian-Americans. When focus groups reacted very negatively to initial pilot episodes, the Guys were recast as four white men and an African-American.
The idea came from then NBC president Brandon Tartikoff, who upon discovering that his young daughter was a "New Kids On The Block" fan, decided to create a boy band and show of her own. His daughter can be seen briefly in the "Telephone Talking" music video.
