Since 'Roman Holiday' was released the year before there might be some inspiration lingering. There is also inspiration from a French story. Marianne is no princess, on the contrary, she is a shop clerk, but she experiences the same, a night with a potential wonderful love affair that is practically doomed not to last. Helle Virkner is perfect in the role as a modest shop clerk with the potential of making it big into a glamorous beauty figure. Her romantic lover is the incarnation of that personality all through the Fifties personified by charming actor Poul Reichhardt who managed to combine masculine attraction with the boyish vitality women craved and still do. Annelise Reenberg treated the subject matter with professional perfection. There is a fine sense of atmosphere building the scene around the city boutique, and the characters get to show believable psychological traits. Nevertheless, the concept as such come close to the predictable and banal but salvaged by impressive supporting cast performances from Angelo Bruun and Bodil Steen plus a New Year's Eve celebration at a fancy restaurant with Ib Schønberg as a noteworthy host.
