Dreamy,Trippy German Silent Short
Seamus282915 May 2008
I first saw this trippy little short on the Arts Channel (a free cable channel that offers mostly music videos of a Classical & Jazz nature, but does also offer occasional short films,as well as extracts from longer classic films). This is a series of cinematic crossword puzzles that was originally screened in German cinemas back in the mid 1920's (I am not making this up---crossword puzzles). Besides trying to figure out the words that make up the crossword puzzles (with the standard horizontal & vertical words), the film also offers clues in the form of surreal images. About the only real problem I encountered with the screening was the poor quality of the framing, cutting off the sides of the image (and thus, making the inter titles almost unreadable from time to time). Apart from that, this is a series of early silent Avant Garde/Experimental films that will be of relevant interest to anybody who enjoys this kind of cinema.
