The opening text gives you a warning this film might be offensive and tries to give the impression & expectation of extreme content. It does not deliver. Instead it is fairly tame by X-rated standards.
The main reason for watching "Niccole" is to see Suzanne Fields (credited as Sandra Dean) who's main claim to fame is a (non-sex) starring role in Flesh Gordon. She has also acted in several non-sex roles & fully participated in other X-rated films including with John Holmes in "Around the World with John "The Wadd" Holmes, a major X production of the 1970's.
This film is basically a six scene porn with a minor plotline. The story of 'O' (the book) is basically only borrowed slightly as a plotline. There is some bondage and spanking but fairly brief and hardly graphic in nature. Suzanne Fields plays the part of Niccole. She narrates (besides her performance) between scenes which helps to connect the scenes and maintain the plot & her character. There is actual dialogue by others in the cast.
It should be noted, this film is never included in lists of movies based on "The story if 'O'" book. There are several other softcore & hardcore movies based on the book with Gerard Damiano's "The Story of Joanna" the best known for X-rated.
Be aware if you look to purchase a copy of this film, the picture quality is not very good. It was filmed on a budget that did not include quality cameras or film. Available prints which were used for video or DVD are heavily degraded decreasing picture quality further.
This is worth watching for Suzanne Fields fans or that are interested or curious on bondage films of the early 1970's. Otherwise you will probably want to try another movie.

Strong Fields performance in nasty film

NICCOLE...THE STORY OF 'O' has an uninhibited, impressive performance by Suzanne Fields in the title role, but should have been a much better, nay breakthrough porn film. It's obviously required viewing for s&m enthusiasts anyway.
Film beat to the punch by several years the official, and softcore version starring Corinne Clery and is truer to its admittedly stolen source material.
Nasty opening scene has Sheldon Lee as Jean chewing up the scenery as a really rotten fellow humping in a threesome until the girl dies suddenly of a heart attack. Not to worry, he laughs maniacally and has sex with her corpse, necrophilia being an interesting addition to the already out-there Pauline Réage novel contents.
He must now find a replacement girl for Sir William "to own", and Suzanne Fields as Niccole fits the bill. The titled gentleman, who is anything but a gentleman, assigns Madame Claudine to give Niccole 6 weeks of training for him at his mansion Ravenna. Involved is all manner of torture, deprivation and humiliation, including Claudine's use of a handy strap-on dildo, with the emphasis on bondage via rope, chain, what have you. A sign that Fields/Niccole is up to snuff is that when the pain gets really excruciating, instead of asking for relief she demands of Jean: "bite me!".
Sir Richard literally unveils Niccole as his latest possession at a party attended by all sorts of people (even Keith Erickson in a rare non-sex role), about to lead her around by a leash attached to a ring pierced through her genitals. Back in the day I was impressed by the goofiness of a party in THE MEPHISTO WALTZ (remember the dog head?), but leading a sheltered life I never got to see this outré moment.
Niccole voices over her happiness at being a slave, and the final credit card reads: "The Beginning...for Niccole".
Typical of underground-styled porn, the film is meant to outrage, shock or annoy -take your pick and it succeeds on its own terms. Richard Smedley (billed as Richard Samson) is a 1-note villain Sir William, almost matched by the creepiness of Sheldon Lee.
Fields' ability to absorb punishment, still deliver sexy "normal" hardcore XXX scenes and maintain her enthusiasm and energy level is why she's in the pantheon of starlets from this era. The unidentified thick-lipped "Madame Claudine" actress was impressive, and could have qualified for a hardcore Star Trek sex symbol a la Jolene Blalock if the casting gods had been more liberally minded. Or the reverse -I would certainly have enjoyed Jeri Ryan dishing out punishment au naturel in Adult movies. Angelique Pettyjohn made that transition.
