One of Greece's Best Films
adamosgp13 April 2023
Wish this movie was shared globally by any type of streaming service so more folks can see it and chime in. The way this film is shot alone elevates it above other more celebrated Greek classic films during these golden film era decades. Every scene holds an added weight of importance and tension to it. Is every scene perfect? No, but the vast majority of the scenes demand your attention. Even the fighting is pretty solid for this era all things considered. And then you factor in the acting. Name wise it's already a well known and respected cast, but most of the acting performances are phenomenal.

Karezi as the girl and Kourkoulos as the good guy. There is a line ''too much money Ari'' from the villain Kalogirou.Very good direction from Dimopoulos and great background scenery of the area of Trouba.

Warning: Spoilers
Aris(Nikos Kourkoulos) is released from prison after spending three years there. He was abandoned by his friends after a contraband. These friends hold Lola(Tzeni Karezi),the beautiful girl. This gang is managed by Stelios(Dionysis Papayiannopoulos) who wants to have Lola as a mistress. Aris comes to the night club to claim Lola. Stelios assigns Mavros(Spyros Kalogirou) to kill Aris, both(Aris and Mavros)being old friends. Mavros will not stab in the back,he will call Aris to fight in a quarrel. Aris asks 'why Mavro?' and he replies 'it's a lot of money Ari'. Aris will pity the Mavros life after he wins. The final quarrel will take place at Stelios' night club. Lola's father(Pantelis Zervos) will appear there to stop the atrocities of Stelios. Lola's father used to be the prison keeper who became a very close friend to Aris. This movie searches the life at Trumba at 1964,the place of the night clubs and cabarets,a place that was forced to be closed at about 1967 after the military coup. The movie is full of the magnificent music of Stavros Xarhakos. At the beginning Karezi sings a nice slow song, then Panos Gavalas-Ria kourti sing the 'Mavros varys o ouranos(oneiro demeno sto mouragio)' which is a hasapiko-style song, then comes the famous hasapiko 'horos tou sakaina' with Aris-Lola-Pareas doing this dance and the music paradise ends with a thrilling slow by Viky Mosholiou. The 'sakaina dance' is a hasapiko dance that will capture every musical taste in any century. Lymperopoulos wrote a poetic scenario and Demopoulos gives a recital for direction. Finos Films made a serious contribution in producing movies that can last in time. This movie combines emotion, adventure with gangs of the night and top of the range music written by a legendary composer like Xarhakos.
