A Tarana to remember
iftikharkhokher5 February 2011
Movies from a particular era have a re-curring theme which is presented with a switch of either environments or time. This film is no exception. What really makes it watchable is the chemistry between Dilip and Madhubala though a modern movie fan will be hard pressed to go through the tedious routine of song after song. The script as in most movies by Dilip is very good, the direction capable and the music extremely likable and full of romance.Dilip and Madhubala are fantastic as the lovers whilst Kuumar is brilliant as Madhu's father. The rest of the cast is solid.Watch out for a standout by Shyama. The heart of the film lies i the haunting songs of Talat Mahmood.A neglected film not readily available on DVD but a great advertisement for the legends that were Dilip and Madhubala.

A musical love story
SushilKBirla21 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A touching musical love story.

Very well enacted by Dilip Kumar and Madhubala.

This movie produced two immortal songs: Seene mein sulagte hein armaan; Ek mein hoon ek meree. "Bol papihe bol" a duet by Lata Mangeshkar and Sandhya Mukherji came to light when these two friends passed away recently.

An emergency landing brings the doctor (Dilip) and the patient (mother figure lady) to an idyllic village in the foothills of the Himalayas. Such things don't happen in real life, but the fantasy sets the stage for an enjoyable movie-watching experience. Such a "coincidence" was also used in Motilal's "Chhoti Chhoti Baatein" to set the story in an idylllic village.

To further add to the "coincidence" the doctor and patient are brought to the home of Tarana (Madhubala) and her blind father.

Similar to the plot in "Deedar", the doctor is able to restore the eyesight of Tarana's father.

The movie could have a 10/10 rating from me, but for the following issues: (a) The end was rushed and the chance reuniting was too phony. When Tarana took the goat from his home, he could have realized that it was missing and started a search.

(b) The scenes of the comedian "Gop" with the priest at the temple were overdone. Including the amount of beating in the last scene between them.

(c) Some excitement could have been added by showing Tarana's escape from the fire and journey to Mumbai.

(d) Some songs could have been dropped. They were jammed in and did not fit well in the storyline.

A must watch for Madhubala Fan
bharatrpatel-7684021 January 2018
You can clearly see Madhubala and Dilip Kumar were in love in this movie. Their chemistry in early romantic scenes is simply beautiful to watch. Madhubala looks so beautiful, vivacious and mesmerizing that you wont be able to resist falling in love with her let alone Dilip Kumar.

The most fascinating movie that I have ever seen in my life
iqbalar3 February 2001
I can say without any reservation that it is the very movie that has left a profound and deep-rooted impact and enchanting impression upon my mind. I have seen this movie for at least ten times but to my amazement I am cognizant of some people who have surpassed me in viewing this great movie. One of them told me that he had seen this movie for 131 times and that every time spellbound and his overwhelming enjoyment augmented his enthusiasm to see this movie again and again. Another acquaintance of mine proclaimed that he viewed this movie for more than 70 times and he was at a loss to understand what sort of magic and attraction was infused that he always achieved a novel kind of pleasure and inspiration out of this movie. In short, I am sure that "Tarana" is replete with beauty, art and aesthetics. It is mainly because of unique and marvelous acting of Dilip Kumar and Madhubala, apart from excellent music, production and direction of this great movie. It is, no doubt, the most outstanding and unforgettable movie, to say the least of it. Madhubala has always been my favorite heroin and I am obliged to pay a rich tribute to Madhubala in the form of an Urdu poem, "Yeh Salam-i- Shauq Hey Mera Madhubala Key Naam" .
