No way to impress a boss.

Warning: Spoilers
A quiet dinner with the boss and his wife turns into complete chaos for Hugh Herbert and wife Christine McIntyre when an old friend from his past shows up and threatens to destroy a possible promotion. Boss Vernon Dent and wife Marion Martin are aghast by his behavior but she's unable to speak thanks to anise accidentally mixed into a cake. Matt McHugh, the obnoxious old pal, may not touch liquor, but he sure drinks it as does his girlfriend, Dorothy Granger. Dudley Dickerson as the cook manages to avoid stereotypes in this short, getting to play his role straight. There'd a wham dammy of a twist that I didn't see coming that makes this so much better than I expected it would be. Not surprised that Matt McHugh is the brother of veteran Warner Brothers character actor Frank McHugh who had worked with Hugh Herbert as he sounds and laughs just like him.
