More Weirdness From Nick Zedd...
EVOL6662 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
So having watched and enjoyed THEY EAT SCUM, I figured I'd throw in some of Zedd's other films cuz I've had them laying around for a while ad figured I'd see how they stack up against it.

THE BOGUS MAN is an 11-or-so minute oddity where a masked informant goes on for most of the run-time about how the president is a clone and then we get some weird footage of someone in a female fat-suit doing a weird strip-tease, and then footage of someone in a Jimmy Carter mask sitting in a pulsing-vagina chair and getting his fingers cut off for cloning purposes.

Weird stuff. Can't say I really got much of anything out of this one. Basically it's a bunch of repeated audio with some weird visuals. A semi-interesting concept about the cloning of the president and all that, but none of that really ever amounts to anything. Not the worst way to blow 11 minutes, but I'm real glad it wasn't any longer either...4/10

Who is The Bogus Man?
sirarthurstreebgreebling11 August 2000
Zedd does is again , this short is based upon the idea the the president of america is a clone..a Bogus Man. A ski-masked narrator tells us of the diabolical plot and shows us footage of the presidents fingers being cut off by his kidnappers and a strange naked woman who waves her bung hole at the camera while doing a twisted bump and grind. Not much can be said except watch it, friends of mine found this short more disturbing than "fingered" and "thrust in me", check it out.

Why was I meant to see this film? Why?

Warning: Spoilers
(having proofread these comments, there are probably spoilers below, if anyone cares)

Here's another insufferable film by the great Nick Zedd (just ask him), from the day (intentionally singular) when people still cared about The Cinema of Transgression. I've sat through BLOODSUCKING FREAKS, Andy Milligan movies, Coleman Francis opuses, yet they have more of a point than anything I've ever endured by this caustic New York auteur.

This satirical pseudo-documentary is told by a man in a ski-mask talking to the camera. Why is he hiding his face? Because he's telling us top secret information? Because he's in a Nick Zedd film? DING!

It wouldn't make any difference, because his scenes which we slog through are the most underexposed excuses for filmmaking I've ever endured. In any case, this gentleman is here to tell us pertinent information about (gasp) the US government being clones: information he is privy to because he saw some exclusive film which we are also forced to endure. The image of a Jimmy Carter puppet surrounded by phalluses is probably enough to make Salvador Dali or Oliver Stone drool, but essentially this is the one joke of the entire insufferable film.

Throughout the film, as the man shares his shocking footage, we repeatedly hear his dry, tired narration from the Coleman Francis School of Voiceover opine, "Why was I meant to view this footage? Why?" He ain't the only one asking this question! Good lord, this piece of cinemanure is one reason why the underground was killed off in the first place back in the 1960's. Too many hacks with two nickels and a Bolex who suddenly think they're Eisenstein believe that any slapped-together piece of crap will pass as challenging avant garde fare. Just because people can make a movie doesn't mean they should!
