Cosplayers at the Colorado Festival of Horror are obsessed with the new horror movie icon Killr™, but "true believers" Rip and Kit are taking their fandom to frightfully lethal levels in the new three-issue comic book series True Believers. Written by Stephen Graham Jones and Joshua Viola with artwork by Ben Matsuya, True Believers will debut exclusively at the real-life Colorado Festival of Horror from September 15th–17th and the Kickstarter via Hex Publishers has just launched, giving horror fans an opportunity to support the project and pick up a variety of goodies, including a Killr™ mask of their own.
This week, I had an opportunity to interview Stephen Graham Jones, who told me all about the orgins of the project, collaborating with Joshua Viola and Ben Matsuya, and more! We also have a preview of the first issue, which you can check out below:

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has bestowed upon us a number of beloved pairings. There's Steve Rogers/Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes, and Steve Rogers/Sam Wilson. Of course, there are others that don't include Captain America too. For instance, thanks to "She-Hulk: Attorney At Law," we can add Wong and Madisynn King to the list of Marvel's fan-favorite duos.
Benedict Wong and Patty Guggenheim's characters from the fourth episode of the Jade Giantess' Disney+ series were brought together thanks to the second rate magic of Donny Blaze. But thanks to a mutual love of "The Sopranos" and froyo, Madisynn and Wongers became fast friends. We even saw them start a new show together in the post-credits scene for the episode titled "Is This Not Real Magic?"
But the most interesting part about these besties is that their friendship didn't originally extend past the credits. This relationship between the...

One girl can make a difference. But can you imagine how much more of a difference she can make with a dinosaur on her side? Well, a tyrannosaurus rex may not be ideal for every situation, but Lunella Lafayette is happy to have Devil Dinosaur with her as she fights crime in the Lower East Side of New York City in the upcoming Disney Channel series "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur."
Based on the 2015 Marvel comic series by Brandon Montclare, Amy Reeder, and Natacha Bustos, which was a sequel to Jack Kirby's "Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur" from 1978, the animated series will follow the 13-year-old super-genius as she transports the T-rex through a time vortex to the present to help her take on the villains of the modern day. And though the project has been in development for some time at this point, the recent D23 Expo has finally...

If one thing is to be said about Spider-Man, it’s that not only does he have one of the richest rogues galleries Marvel has to offer, but in all of comics as well. Of course, there are those whom True Believers tend to favor over others, but none of us can deny the cult following that Venom has amassed over the years.
Bonded to an alien symbiote that helps in giving him such a badass look, this character has sometimes found himself portrayed as an anti-hero, a practice not uncommon whenever someone normally thought of as being “a bad guy” is the protagonist in a given narrative. Thus, we expect that to hold true with the feature film.

In recent years, Marvel’s big events have been somewhat reactionary to whatever may be going on in the movies, with Civil War II being a prime example of that. And with the theatrical release of Avengers: Infinity War being just around the corner, many True Believers were probably expecting for some sort of grand cosmic tale to develop. Well, if that was your assumption, then you were 100% correct.
As it turns out, it’ll come in the form of Infinity Countdown, a five-issue series which we’re learning about via the exact same hyberbole that preceded every Marvel event in the past decade or so. Being billed as “the greatest epic in the history of the Infinity Stones” that will “lead to an even greater story – and one that will impact the entire Marvel Universe.”

It’s certainly been a year to remember if you’re a fan of The Punisher, now hasn’t it? In addition to winning over True Believers with the new Netflix series starring Jon Bernthal, Frank Castle has found yet another way to turn heads on the comic book side of things.
As you may recall, James Rhodes unfortunately met his end during the events of Civil War II. But, as it turns out, his War Machine armor didn’t go to waste because – get this – Castle picked up where Iron Man’s best buddy left off. That’s right, the deadliest mech suit around has fallen into the most dangerous hands possible.
Originally, I scoffed at this idea because I like seeing Castle as more of a stripped down vigilante who can easily exist outside of the Marvel Universe – and often has in his feature films. But when I really thought about it,...

As both a moviegoer and a fan of superheroes, something I’ve long admired about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that while it’s yielded some pretty great individual flicks along the way, the creative minds behind it have also managed to tell this massive overarching story that will culminate with 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and its followup, the as-yet-untitled film that we’re currently referring to as Avengers 4 for all intents and purposes.
So, whenever Marvel Studios’ head honcho Kevin Feige makes his press rounds these days, he’s understandably grilled about the next step in this magnum opus, which will seem to have a finality to it:
“(Avengers 4 will) bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale… There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.”

Even though the Marvel Cinematic Universe is certainly nothing new at this point, we still have much to look forward to over the next couple of years. Not only will we be treated to the studio’s first film to be headlined by a woman in the form of Captain Marvel, but we also have Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel on the horizon, which’ll serve as a finale of sorts to the sprawling story that began with the first Iron Man flick all the way back in 2008.
That being said, devout True Believers and general moviegoers alike are no doubt pondering what awaits in those blockbuster team-ups, regardless of whether or not Marvel Studios opts to do any more of them. As evidenced by the steady stream of set photos, Atlanta is still playing host to Avengers 4, Marvel’s unnamed sequel currently on course for a release in 2019.
Nipping at the heels of Infinity War, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have now switched gears to orchestrate the second, conclusive chapter in their two-part epic, which presumably pits Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against Thanos for the final time in May of 2019. So far, most of the titular heroes have been confirmed to be appearing in the superhero extravaganza, but today, we’re hearing that someone rather unexpected may be involved, too: Crossbones.
Having been originally introduced simply as Brock Rumlow, a sleeper agent of Hydra, in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he ironically saw his screentime reduced when he finally emerged as a full-blown Crossbones two years later in Civil War. And, of course, he met his demise in the opening salvo.

Like it or not, Marvel Studios have proven to be a force in Hollywood ever since Iron Man graced the silver screen back in 2008. In the time since, they’ve gone on to establish an interconnected cinematic universe, put together a few team-up flicks along the way, and raked in a considerable amount of dough in the process.
Still, there are those who aren’t fully converted True Believers that voice the common complaint of these films being formulaic. To be honest, I’ve found validity in this gripe. While the heavily polarizing DC Extended Universe has rubbed some moviegoers the wrong way, I have to hand it to Warner Bros. for their filmmaker-driven approach. Marvel Studios, on the other hand, is more akin to an assembly line and, let’s face it, most of their offerings look like they’re directed by the same person.

When you’re dealing with characters such as Captain America who have decades upon decades of comic book history backing them up, you have no shortage of villains and supporting characters to cull from when adapting to film. As such, we’ve seen the likes of the Red Skull, Bucky Barnes, Arnim Zola and the Falcon enjoy prominent roles in what I personally believe to be some of the finest movies Marvel Studios have produced to date.
Likewise, there’ll be a few that can fill small roles in cinematic adaptations even if they’ve given the titular hero a run for their money on various occasions in the source material. One example that springs to mind is that of Crossbones, who was played by Frank Grillo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

U.S. Avengers and Uncanny Avengers will not survive the new year. January brings us a three-month mini-event called Avengers: No Surrender. Okay; on the face of it, this seems like a good idea – and pretty much what I was calling for in this space back on September 6th when I said Secret Empire might have been a worthy eight-parter if it had been entirely confined to the two Captain America titles, segueing from Sam Wilson to Steve Rogers and completely in the hands of writer Nick Spencer. Okay, I guess I’m getting much of what I asked for.
However, Avengers: No Surrender also marks the cancellation of both U.S. Avengers and Uncanny Avengers and the “promotion” of The Avengers to weekly status… at least for the duration of the storyline. There are 13 shipping weeks in the...

When Jean Grey died heroically in Grant Morrison’s epic run of New X-Men, she left a void among her mutant family – and in the world. For over a decade, the X-Men have lived with the fact that Jean Grey is no longer with them as a team member and a friend – and now, this winter, adult Jean Grey will live again, in a return fans have been demanding for years… Phoenix Ressurection!

Even though we still have a couple of months to go until Thor: Ragnarok storms cinemas, the hype train is unquestionably going strong in the interim. Just last week, we saw a bevy of character posters surfaced, in addition to a few that some may say have stepped on the toes of the competition.
But even though we’re all very much excited, that doesn’t mean we’ve lost the capacity to see the big picture. As you surely know, the release of Avengers: Infinity War is also looming. Effectively serving as the culmination of everything Marvel Studios have been building since the release of the first Iron Man flick back in 2008, it’ll more than likely leave a lasting impression on moviegoers and also pave the way for whatever may lie beyond.

While Marvel may certainly be dominating at the box office, it could be argued that things haven’t gone as well for them in recent years on the comic book side. To put it mildly, fans have become frustrated with the publisher’s decision to replace their favorite heroes with younger characters, the controversial move to make Captain America an agent of Hydra, and the massive dump that the House of Ideas has taken on its “first family,” the Fantastic Four.
According to a Marvel intern who’s now voiced his concerns and is operating under the name of “The Whisperer,” the situation is becoming pretty dire. Not surprisingly, there’s a push by Marvel big wigs to get back to meat and potatoes as it were, but they risk putting themselves on a slippery slope by casting aside diversity characters.

Even if you weren’t fortunate enough to attend San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, I think we can all agree that superhero fans were spoiled regardless of where they found themselves. At the very least, we all got to see one supremely impressive trailer for Thor: Raganarok, while those in Hall H saw the first footage to be screened from Avengers: Infinity War as well. Actually, the latter briefly leaked onto the internet, so count yourself as lucky if you viewed it before it was taken down.
Now, if you were one of those who did see the teaser from the third Avengers flick, then you’d know about how Thor was spotted on the very same ship as the Guardians of the Galaxy. That said, many True Believers feared that Ragnarok had been spoiled in some way, and they certainly have a valid point.

The first we’ll discuss is that of a higher page count, which will, of course, increase the price point of the issue in question. Having inflated from 40 pages to 48, expect to pay $4.99 as opposed to $3.99 for this baby when it hits stands. Sure, one dollar doesn’t seem like much, but comic book collectors often pick up more than one title each week and, believe me, it adds up quickly. Perhaps due to the success of last week’s launch parties, Marvel has decided to offer True Believers more in the way of promotional goodies later this summer to mark the arrival of Secret Empire #6. Having already dabbled in the glow in the dark realm before with Ghost Rider #15‘s cover, it seems natural that this bit of flair be provided for replicas of the Cosmic Cube, which, long story short, is pretty much the reason why Steve Rogers aligned with Hydra in the first place.

What. A. Disappointment.
The traitor was finally revealed on Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 18 and it wasn't anyone I was expecting.
In fact, it was a character that was introduced earlier in the hour and unless you were paying close attention, you would have been left scratching your head when the big reveal was made.
For Designated Survivor to have made such a big flipping deal all week about who the traitor was and then giving us pretty much a nobody is quite aggravating.
What I was expecting was a true traitor. Like Jason.(I really thought it was going to be Jason.) Or Aaron. Even Chuck or General Cochrane would have been better than what's his name?
Oh, yeah. Jay Whitaker, Director of Homeland Security who was on screen for Less Than Five Minutes when he was showing Hannah the flash drive information.

In recent memory, Marvel has certainly done a fine job of reaching its fanbase in exciting new ways. First, there was the announcement that they were taking advantage of GeoTargeting in order to increase foot traffic in comic shops, with word that they’re commencing in-theater advertising this spring swiftly following. As for their next endeavor, well, it luckily arrived just in time for their latest major crossover event, Secret Empire.
Powered by Conversable, this new chatbot allows True Believers to interact with some of their favorite characters via Facebook Messenger and Twitter Dm, effectively enriching their Secret Empire experience. This bold new strategy “leverages natural language processing (Nlp) and machine learning to engage users with an entirely unique adventure written by Eisner Award-winning author, Jim McCann,” with Spider-Man being the first hero on the block.

Don't mess with President Kirkman.
Kirkman lost his temper on Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 17 when he and Senator Bowman locked horns on Supreme Court nominees.
It was the greatest thing ever.
It's about time Kirkman stopped letting people push him around.
Just when it seemed like he lost control of the room, Kirkman summoned his inner Jack Bauer and let everyone know who was really in charge.
The whole scenario was ripped right out of the headlines. The Republicans didn't like one of Kirkman's Supreme Court nominees and pitched a fit to get the Chief Justice nominee changed.
"Too liberal" was Bowman's bogus excuse even though he and the other Republicans had agreed to the slate of nominees the President had submitted.
Bowman didn't like the idea of Kirkman being successful twice in a row, and it wasn't until Kirkman's friend Julia came up with the idea to keep the...

This week on ABC’s Designated Survivor — a show I long to love — Wells and Atwood dug up more details on the parcel of land owned by Browning Reed in Nowheresville, North Dakota, all building to the most boring “dramatic” reveal possible.

Having previously discovered in the underground silo a bazillion bombs just like the ones used to level the Capitol, Wells and Atwood made tracks for the nearby, very small town from which the land’s motion sensors must be monitored. There, they encounter friendlies who turn less so when...

No doubt enjoying all the praise True Believers have been giving his Netflix show, Luke Cage is certainly riding high these days. In fact, his popularity will soon have the chance to grow even further when a new solo series written by David F. Walker (Power Man and Iron Fist, Occupy Avengers) and illustrated by the up and coming Nelson Blake II (Romulus) hits stands the spring.
But, even if you’ve been on board with this guy for some time now, there’s still reason for you to take part in his adventures. You see, Cage is now headed for New Orleans and, if he’s able to pull off the amazing feat of resisting the locale cuisine, he’ll “uncover a mystery stretching back to his very origins.” Sounds interesting, eh?

So, has your headache alleviated since reading the conclusion of Spider-Men? Well, we sure hope it has because it looks like Marvel is finally ready to give us some answers regarding “the other Miles Morales” when Spider-Men II kicks off this summer.
The beauty of this sequel is that is doesn’t feel at all forced like, say, Civil War II, which was merely riding the coattails of a movie. Instead, this organically builds upon a cliffhanger that has left True Believers scratching their heads – but in a good way.
That being said, it should excite you to learn that Peter Parker and Miles Morales will once again join forces “to uncover a mystery that will shake them down to their very core.” With Marvel using such strong words, the reveal of whomever the 616 Miles is should be shocking indeed.

Although anticipation for the upcoming Secret Empire is undoubtedly high, event fatigue is becoming a very real thing. In the past few years alone, True Believers have endured Secret Wars, Civil War II and now this, each following the other like rapid fire and affording little breathing room in between. Not only that, but linewide relaunches are often in tow, which is something else that’s been a growing concern.
In fact, I can’t recall a time in the last decade or so that a major crossover event hasn’t been going on. Granted, neither of the Big Two are innocent, but every time I turn around, Marvel is putting out something with a tagline along the lines of “it’s all been building to this.” Furthermore, it’s getting increasingly difficult to remember what order stories such as Siege,...

Although the upcoming Jean Grey solo series has been the talk of the town for some time now, it hasn’t been until recently that we got a look inside the debut issue. Well, there was last week’s ResurrXion Spotlight Sampler (I’d say that was worth every penny if it hadn’t been a free book), but thankfully, Marvel didn’t wait too long afterward to release a more substantial preview.
Despite the interiors provided being unlettered, I hope we can all agree that Victor Ibanez did a phenomenal job, as did the others that lent cover art. And although having a slew of variants to choose from is certainly nothing new, True Believers may have a more difficult time than usual selecting which they want to bring home because each are so beautiful and vibrant.

Something that Marvel’s done in recent years amid mixed reactions is that of relaunching its line of titles on an annual basis. While this may provide good jumping on points for new readers, longtime fans have grown weary of this practice, citing that it’s taken the value out of the “#1.” Still, it looks like something is on the horizon once Secret Empire wraps in late summer or early fall, and it may not necessarily be what you’d expect.
According to Bleeding Cool, the publisher may very well announce the “Make Mine Marvel” initiative at Emerald City Comic-Con this weekend. As opposed to focusing on rolling back marquee titles to “#1,” the new strategy is to return longstanding series to original numbering. To be honest, we wouldn’t rule out a combination of the two, but it would likely please stalwart True Believers who agreed with DC’s decision...

Yesterday, we reported that Marvel and Archie joined forces in a landmark deal, effectively bringing some of the most iconic superheroes around to big box retailers with Marvel Comics Digest. Set to kickoff in June by having its first issue focus on Spider-Man, subsequent installments to follow this year will chronicle the adventures of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Wolverine and the X-Men.
Now that we’ve established Spider-Man is set to grace the cover of this new venture’s maiden voyage, we can confirm that the Avengers will adorn the cover of the second issue, specifically Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Wasp, Falcon and the Vision, each in the most heroic of poses. Without a doubt, Marvel made what was possibly the most controversial move in all of comics in 2016 when the incorruptible was corrupted in the pages of Captain America: Steve Rogers. After all, an American icon was revealed to be an agent of Hydra, albeit due to the convoluted machinations of the Red Skull. Still, it touched a nerve with many True Believers.
Regardless of how you may personally feel about these happenings, you must admit that Marvel excels at promoting its work no matter what medium it may be. Written by Fred Van Lente (Spider-Man: Big Time) and illustrated by Pere Perez (Smallville Season 11), this miniseries comes at a very opportune time as both characters are currently enjoying a pop culture boom. Not only did Deadpool become the highest grossing R-rated film of all-time and now has a sequel on the way, but Frank Castle is also set to star in his own Netflix series. We’re all familiar with superhero teams such as the Avengers, Justice League, X-Men and Teen Titans, but some of the coolest moments to come by in the comic book medium happen to be when those other than the usual suspects join forces. Superhero teams with a patriotic slant are nothing new and we can’t help but think of the Thunderbolts or Geoff Johns’ reinterpretation of the Justice League of America...

t looks like an Instagram account owned by @troyanolo, who might be a Hydra spy for all we know, has some alleged leaked photos from the trailer. The pictures couldn’t be any grainier or shady. Are these low-res screengrabs real or fake?
But That’S Not All True Believers!

From the movie review site The GoodTheBadandTheUgly.Ca, take a look @ "the good, the bad and the ugly" in director Scott Derrickson's Marvel Studios' feature "Doctor Strange", starring Benedict Cumberbatch:
Michael Stevens/SneakPeek.Ca For The Good
"'By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth', as an early fan of "Marvel Comics' 'Strange Tales", I was more than willing to 'open my mind to the endless impossibilities' of the IMAX 3D world of 'Doctor Strange'.
"...immediately entranced by the M.C. Escher-like VFX, complete with loopy, angled landscapes and bending skylines...
"...amused by droll Benedict Cumberbatch as 'Stephen Strange'...
"...chilled by madman Mads Mikkelsen as 'Kaecilius'...
"...and enlightened by the radiant Tilda Swinton as 'The Ancient One'.
"'By The Shades Of The Seraphim', I also enjoyed the sentient 'Cloak Of Levitation'...
"...and all of the hand-waving, finger-gesturing flourishes...
"...reminding me of the mystical energy in John Carpenter...
