Great Acting by the Child Star !
Umar Mansoor Bajwa21 December 2013
Although, this is the debut film of Rajesh Khanna who was offered the role by winning the finalist position in the All India Talent Contest held in 1965 by Film Fare and United Producers. But it was essentially the wonderful real/natural acting of the child star - Bantu who steals the show by his extremely innocent and pretty demeanor. Bantu is the real protagonist instead of his father, Govind played by Rajesh Khanna.

The song number "Aye baharo mera jeevan bhi sawaro....." is superbly sung by Lata Mangeshkar. The script by Chetan Anand renders purpose and meaning to the story while music by Khayyam adds suspenseful rhythm to its sentimental flow of events. A really nice art movie of the yore worthy to be awarded the Academy Award in Best Foreign Film category.

Warning: Spoilers
i watched it after watching baby's day out.made on 1966 it seems a precursor to it.rajesh khanna a medical student loves a girl of a village.he comes to city and has to leave for his education.the girl meanwhile gets pregnant and gives birth to a little boy.carrying her 1 year son she comes to mumbai to meet rajesh khanna.he refuses to accept its his child.the girl steals away from the house, she is sick and wants to leave her son with a letter to rajesh khanna.but later rules against it and carries her son to sea coast.there she collapses and dies leaving her son alone.rajesh khanna realizes his mistake and take help of police to find his wife and son.he breaks down when he find his wife's body.his resolve to search for his son gets more strong in which he is helped by his female friend.the whole story follows the child how he survives in such a big city.how he drinks milk from the milk bottles left on people's doorsteps by the milk man. the camera follows him everywhere.climax is really moving.

the print is quite good.music is finest.acting is first rate.direction by chetan Aland is astounding.has a song by then new comer singer bhoopinder.

a great and completely different precursor to Hollywood original baby's day out.
