Bad luck at the dancing school .
The screenwriters issue a warning before the final credits : "beware ,girls! This film was inspired by the story of a girl whose fate was more dramatic than that of our heroine !If it prevents damsels from falling into that trap ,then we have reached our goal ....
Well, perhaps so ....It's the old recipe which consists of taking a praise-worthy purpose (for the moral) while integrating salacious details (for the takings).
This white slave trade was a genre which was thriving in the French fifties (see also "les impures" " des femmes disparaissent "). Here it is a festival of camp : the heroine takes naivete to new limits while around her, they put on their little act ; Frank Villard , who's good when he's directed by competent directors ( Allégret 's " Manèges" ;Audry's 'huis clos") , makes the best of his part of a suave smooth pimp , with a sugary smile , by opting for a playing close to tongue -in-chick ; Conchita ,his madam lover , gives a sometimes hysterical performance ;Helene Chanel , later a starlet in sub-James Bond spy thrillers, third-rate spaghetti westerns and cheap sword and sandals, plays the lamb to the slaughter, who sits for magazine photographs (actually cheesecake) ,winds up in a dancing school ,rue Pigalle (sic) ,where the manageress introduces her to an important man who can help her with her dancing career ....En route to Tanger....
The movie begins with glimpses of the rebellious fifties youth ,but this girl is not a rebel without a cause :she longs to be a ballerina ,but her daddy ,always playing draughts ,does not want to hear of it.
