Motoyoshi Oda's postwar masterpiece
Kaijugeek147 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Almost every diehard Japanese cinema buff has heard of Motoyoshi Oda's films The Invisible Man and Godzilla Raids Again both of which are commonly regarded as some of the worst films in the Golden Age of Japanese Cinema. Though, before he directed these films, he made Lady from Hell (1949), undoubtedly his best film. The screenplay by the famed Akira Kurosawa is amongst the best of any film produced in postwar Japan and Eiji Tsuburaya's effects and wonderful acting add to the film's overall spectacle. However, I do have a problem with the film, why would you kill because you can't pay your bills?
