- John, known to his school companions as the "Brick Top" because of the color of his hair, is a very mischievous boy and takes a great delight in tantalizing the boys and girls and making his teacher's life miserable. Finally his teacher sends John home, and the sheriff locks the boy up in his room. John decides that he will run away from these people who mistreat him. He bravely travels some distance, but finally, becoming weary, and seeing a cabin that is apparently deserted, he lies down on some straw in one of the rooms, and goes to sleep. Now it happens that this cabin is a rendezvous for a gang of bandits and they shortly return with the loot from a hold-up. The sheriff, looking for John, is directed to the cabin. When he arrives he is disarmed and thrown into the other room. John cuts his father's bonds and leaves through this window for help. There is a general fight between the sheriff and the bandits, and one of the latter is just about to shoot the sheriff when the posse arrives and the sheriff is saved. The next day John returns to school, quite the hero of the occasion.—Moving Picture World synopsis
